MWHCVT(Matt's) Challenge 365 - Completed

Nice shot!
I'll give this a go myself, methinks. It's about time I did some more LE stuff. Thank you for the inspiration!

Always happy to be an inspiration where I can  there are so many different things you can do as part of your 365  especially when you move into the world of long exposures :D

Matt

Like the processing on 316 Matt, that works really well, like it. Liking the orbs too.

Thanks Michael, I was really pleased with both of these myself :D

Matt

I really love Day 313, Matt. It really stood out amongst all the shots on my Contacts page on Flickr.

I haven't been into the thread for a few days, but you've really kept up the game in the last few shots! Good stuff.

I saw on the other thread that you're going for another 365 next year, all I can say is you must be mad and good luck :)

I'm pleased you've liked the recent photo's it's been a really strong few days  I think I probably am mad for doing it all again next year but it just had to be done ;)

Mate, a great set!! The three am church does it for me. Was that literally stuck on bulb, do your swirly thing, and that's the result? As the detail in the church is great!

I love this:

taken @ 3.15
uploaded @ 5.15

I'm pleased that you like them :D basically yeah it was a case of just sticking it in bulb mode  I did a couple of test exposures before an exposure with the orbs it was just to check the composition, focus and exposure :D

At to the times I'm trying to decide if its a case of showing my commitment or need to be committed

Day 318 - A Sloe Day

My favourite drink, well alcoholic on anyway

318/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

I know that this will not be to every one's tastes but I wanted to take some of the tips that I got from my wine and grapes image a few days ago and bring those into this image, but at the same time I wanted to do things a little differently

I've light painted this to keep the back ground nice and dark but with a little bit of spill just to give the smallest hint of shape at the bottom of the bottle and then a small amount of light to the rear of the glass to give the sloe gin a real pop

Hiya Matt,

I guess this 365 is growing to a close now with only a few weeks to go .... which is quite sad .... because you have been a true inspiration to many and each of your pics has provided a great and creative idea for a daily challenge.

Not only are you a fantastic person .... but you have made such a huge contribution to TP with your mini tutorial on light painting and star trails. In my eyes you are a true asset to TP land.

If you continue next year with another 365 I will 100% be there to support you!

You have done an amazing project this year, one which I think many will look back on and reflect.

You are a great guy and I look forward to meeting you at the TP convention in May.

Always my support!

Thank you so much for your support Dawn and to all the other members that have supported me through this challenge, 2011's challenge is coming to an end with less than 50 day's to go  I cannot believe it's coming to an end already, but I will be doing it all again next year :bonk:

This forum is what it is thanks to the great members on here  I'm just trying to be a decent member of the community

I'm already planning my trip up to the TPCon so you sure will see me there

Matt :D

Matt you must be.the king of.sparkling balls... And church exteriors

Thanks Kev, I have to confess though that these particular balls, the spinning was the work of Darrell (thedodo) I was managing the exposure etc :D and Directing of course :naughty: but I'm really pleased that you like them and the churches

 I'm sure I'm :cuckoo: but there looks to be a few that are going to give it a try, I just hope they appreciate what they are letting themselves in for  but with a little bit of luck we can get a little TP community together for it :D

Day 319 - Pink Powered Petals :D

A little different from me, this is the first time that I've tried to do a high key light painting, I try and avoid shooting at f/1.8 because DoF end's up getting a little mad but I wanted a really shallow DoF with this one in the hope of getting some nice bokeh from the light painting, I think that has worked will, it's also helped me smooth my white background without having to get the iron out :naughty:

Nice pic Matt, can't see any creases so the dof has worked well, and very good light painting.

Thanks Michael, I'm rather pleased with this one myself  it's worked well :D it's nice to try out different things, I'd never done high key light painting

Matt

Will have to try it, what did you use for the bg?

You should  I think people in the creative section are getting fed up with me posting light painting  as each bit of light painting I do I show in there also  as to the BG it's a white bed sheet that I brought specifically for photography

Day 320 - The Real Challenge

I've had a real struggle with my POTD for today, to the point that I ended up having a status on facebook for the first time in ages asking for some inspiration, I think that this is the real challenge of a project like this, it's not hard to take a photo every day, but to take a photo that your happy with every day or come up with an idea for a photo, there is the challenge...

So in the end I when down the self portrait route, but not wanting to just have a photo of me, it had to have a little symbolism in there...

320/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

So there is me  looking thoughtfully at my Challenge 365 thread on TalkPhotography.co.uk

  • In the photo you also have the flower that featured as my subject for my POTD yesterday..
  • A lens cap, these seem to find there way all over my house, sometimes in the weirdest of places :D
  • I did a quick notice showing what I was doing for those that didn't get it lol
  • Finally I've made sure that the clock is in showing time moving on in my challenge with a slow enough shutter speed to just get a little bit of movement in the pendulum :D

I shot it from a high angle to give the impression of watching in on my own challenge

Like that idea, Matt.
I might have to borrow it for one of those days when I've not got any inspiration :)

Thanks Ben, it worked well  and feel free to try out anything that I've posted  always happy to inspire others to try things

Morning Matt...liking your idea...but it looks confining....like being in a lift with dolly patron any minute she'll break into song. It doesn't quite have that lurker cctv sort of feel...like the idea odd the pendulum swing though. Yet another reference to time passing....not long to go.

   Thanks Kev, it's very difficult to get a really nice angle to work better  this was taken from inside the airing cupboard  but I see what you mean, once of the confines of shooting in the hall :bang:

Matt

Sounds about right.... I had an awkward job taking a high enough angle for my evolution theme...tripod fully extended and on top of a table... Hit and miss as to whether I was in shot :D

My tripod was set to max too  My issue was to get it set up and taking the photo and being in the position I wanted, I've never used the self timer before as I'm not usually in front of the camera :bang: ended up setting it to take get consecutive photo's to give me chance to be into position

Day 321 - Shroom's about

A few little shrooms that I've found in my front lawn, I've been shroom hunting in numerous local wood's with very little success so it's kind on ironic to walk out of my front door to find this :D

Evening Matt, liking your self portrait idea for yesterdays pic, like the mushrooms too.

Evening Michael, Thanks, the SP was done after loads of stressing about what to do but when I settled on what to do I had to put some real thought into the different elements to include, I rather like the shrooms for there simplicity

Matt

Hi Matt!

Have to say I wholeheartedly agree with your comments from your SP post. Truely the challenge of the 365 really comes from taking a picture "worthy" of taking ... rather than from just "having to take a picture every day".

Good work on that shot btw, sounds like the conditions weren't ideal.

Liking the simplicity of the mushroom duo!

Cheer's Paul, your right it's really important for me personally that I avoid taking a photo for photo sake, to me it has to have had some thought and composition to it, that said I do have some image where I'll think up ideas even a few weeks in advance to have as a back up to take at a later date :D

The Simplicity of the shrooms is what drew me to it

Day 322 - Hello old friend...

I said right from the very start of this challenge that I would be doing more than a few light trails in this challenge, so this evening I headed out to a new location that I found a few weeks ago, regrettably as good as the sky was looking about an hour prior to light trail time it didn't live up to my hopes, but the good news is I got a stella new location from this evenings efforts

The Amber flashes in the approaching trails are from a breakdown truck, I like the stepped pattern that they have created

Settings for this were 90 seconds / ISO100 / f/22

Hi Matt, great light trail, as they always are. I like the addition of the breakdown truck.

:D cheers Michael I do try  and yeah be breakdown truck made a nice addition, it would have been nice to have a good sky but even I cannot change the clouds  well yet :naughty:

Day 323 - The Blue Mist

Some of us get the "Red Mist" but just breath out, relax and take it easy and soon you'll get the blue mist

Looking across a local paddock to a copse on the outskirts of my village in the heart of Warwickshire, the was a lovely layer of mist in the air with gave a real atmospheric feel to the scene, in processing this I've played on the blue tones from the sun having just dipped below the horizon, the only thing that is missing for me is a couple of horses in the paddock but we cannot have everything in life ;)
