MWHCVT(Matt's) Challenge 365 - Completed

Day 254 - Light at the end off....

....actually there is more than just a light at the end of the tunnel, it so light that there is nothing else in the tunnel but light :D

254/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

My first attempt that this style of light painting and while I am pleased with the effect, it has given me a number of ideas for ways to develop this photo further.

The idea of this photo was to have a tunnel of light to walk down to the church :D and overall it has worked though there are areas for improvement

Like the texture of #253 - and it's really well lit.

#254 I just saw and commented on, on Flickr. It is really nice shot and the contrasting colour of the light and the sky works really well!

Looking forward to see what you can come up with, it's an area that I'm intending to explore more once a few bits and pieces I've ordered turn up!

Thanks, I'm very pleased with the lighting of the fungi, the use of the reflector really made a difference to how it came out

I'm glad that you like the light tunnel :D and I look forward to seeing your efforts  I have some very large plans for light painting

Nice fungi Matt, and I really like the light tunnel. What size torch do you use? Is the light already blue or do you put something on the end of it?

Thanks, the fungi is rather pleasing, as to the tunnel all I used was a small white LED torch that cost £1 but it wasn't that good :shake: I need to refine it a but before I will be totally happy the blue colour is from the white of the LED and the fact that I selected white fluorescent for my white balance setting  and no that wasn't a mistake

Day 255 - Coloured Pink

A rather nice pink chrysanthemum that I found in my back garden, we have not had the best display in the garden this year of any flowers, I think that the cold winter last year really didn't help :(

Thanks for the info Matt. Nice picture for today too.

Day 256 - Never to old to learn

This is from my first dabble into studio shooting taken last night I had a lot of fun and have learnt a lot about working in a studio, I'm really looking forward to my next foray into studio work

Is this your studio setup Matt?

Nice first attempt - care to share the kit list and lighting setup, and what you wanted the image to look like (other than "just like this" :D)?

For me, I would like a little more light on the left hand side and under the cap - without knowing what you actually had set up, maybe a reflector on that side would be enough just to bring it up a touch?

Thanks, I wish it was my own set up  :( but no I was at a little studio lighting training session to learn about lighting and how to set it up

As I remember the lighting set up was as follows:

One light set up at just left of being directly in front of the model and about 12-18 inches higher than she want this was metered to f/8 then a second light at 45 degree's from the rear on the right of the model, this was set from memory to f/10 and was not covered to provide a burst of light to the rear

This photo was deliberately darker to give it a more seductive/fun look  we did others even darker with more shadow going for a horror style/look once I've edited them I'll be starting a thread

Cheers for the response on the studio shot. Another thing on the long list of "things I want to try" this year! ;)

Absolutely stunning mate - kicking myself for not going out and doing a trail last night as it was the first clear-ish night for ages! Main thing holding me back is that I'm still waiting for my remote release to turn up from China!

What time did you go out and shoot it out of interest?

Also - what did you do for 2 hours odd? :D

Love the star trail Matt, can't wait to have a go at one myself.

Thanks, I cannot recommend getting out and giving it a go, what I will say is make sure you have the focus exactly right before you start of the continuous exposures as you will be so angry if you have made a mistake after two hours or more waiting :'(

No problem, If ever I can help I always will  your doing the best thing to get to try different things a 365 will really challenge you to try stuff, you really need the release to do it well though if you get a clear night before it comes remember you can use a bit of tape to depress the shutter button

I've just checked and the first photo was taken at 00:56 this morning and the last was taken at 03:11 this morning :D

As to what I do, I was with another photographer my brother in law so we sat around chatting and also reviewing some of the studio photo's on my laptop  2 hours is a relatively short shoot for me, I'll often spend up to 8 hours on location taken photo's :D

Day 258 - A Photographers rest...

A hard working photographer needs to take a break sometimes, this evening I was out for a nice family meal as always I had my camera with me, to the rolled eyes of my 14 year old niece I decided that my photo of the day was going to be a macro-ish study of my selected alcoholic beverage of the evening, a tall, cold Peroni, it was really nice and complemented the fish that I had for dinner really well :D

258/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

I composed it on a tilt just for the fun on the fact that if I had to many I could end up at that angle, I like the colours and the condensation on the outside of the glass

I feels like a long time since posting my Kenilworth Castle photo yesterday

Matt

...and boy is that glass chilled nicely....even at 1030 in the morning it looks so appealing.... ..love the angle and the colour

Day 259 - First Loves Rekindled :D

I have always loved light trails ever since buying my camera :D so last night I had a spare 20 minutes to go and have a little bit of fun, I really enjoyed it and great conditions, movement and colour in the sky, just what I wanted though a little more traffic would have been good :(

Thanks mate, though I did have to google "The Eye of Sauron" it's not a genre I read but yeah I can see where your coming from, I'm really happy about the explore :D I've been hoping for it for ages so it's come as a nice treat, now to work on a second explore :D

Matt

Day 260 - A Beautiful Oil Slick...

...now there's a headline that will never be seen on the news  :naughty:

A bit of macro oil on water, I don't feel brilliant today, I have a sore throat and feel a little under the weather, so I didn't feel like going out today

Love it Matt, the green is excellent! Is that pp introduced or did you filter the flash? I was playing with red food colouring and water today, the result is on my flickr. Posted here if you fancy taking a look.

The colour is 90% out of camera :D but I did give the saturation a bit of a kick the only filter on the flash was from the built in diffuser :D I'm pleased that you like it :D I'll pop over and take a look at your thread :D

Day 261 - Changeable Weather

This afternoon on the A45 on the way to Daventry I noticed just how amazing the sky was looking with a great deal of weather happening in a very small area, we go from storm to sun as we sweep around the panoramic view.

Available in full size to view on my flickr HERE

Processing on this was to take the -2,0,+2 exposures and do a simple tone mapping treatment then take the 7 basic tone mapped image and merge them into a stitched panoramic image, then to perform a pseudo HDR treatment on the stitched image to give the final image :D

Nice work there Matt, great bit of processing. Like it a lot.

Thanks Michael, there was a fair bit of processing involved in bringing this one to fruition but I think that it was worth it :D

Day 262 - A charging challenge

I was wondering what to do for a photo of the day today but I was struggling if I'm honest, though I have come up with a fun and messy one for later in the week :D

So for today I thought that I would have a bit of fun and post a new challenge photo, I don't have a macro rig with me at the moment so today I've had to do a heavy crop so apologies for the rather poor quality

Thanks, I'm very pleased with the panorama, it's the first time that I've tried a panorama that's also a genuine HDR it took some  which was nice :D

After I posted I posted that little challenge I thought it was too easy  well done

Day 263 - Would you like red, white or errrrm...

Sometimes you have days when you just cannot think of an idea for your POTD and I'll be honest today was looking like one of the those days, now I have two things that I do when I have one of those days, I either get my photography magazines out and start looking through the features looking for inspiration or I post on facebook that I need an idea and then see what people suggest :D well today I hit the magazines and this is the result, not the first time that this glass has seen the light of day to feature in my 365

Hi Matt

257 is amazing, very clever. Would it have been too light to keep the shutter open for a long time?

258 - Very tasty!

259 - Awesome, a bit more traffic would have been nice, but the sky is great, looks almost unearthly.

260 - I like it, good colour, a clever shot!

261 - Excellent! Perfect composition, Brilliant sky!

262 - Not for me I'm afraid :(

263 - Colourful, a brilliant idea, pulled off well. Great colours.

Hey, I think that with 257 you could have got away with a 45-60 second exposure but my camera only go's to a 30 second or bulb and I didn't want to stand watching the clock every minute when I could do 30 seconds over and over without me getting near the camera and risking knocking the camera etc

I'm pleased that overall you have liked what you've seen :D

Day 264 - How English :D

An attempt by me to be creative, I'm quite pleased with it though I think there are a couple of areas where it could be improved :D
