MWHCVT(Matt's) Challenge 365 - Completed

239 - Sunflowers

Nice idea, but not overly keen on the vignette and perhaps would have been improved by a slightly lower perspective?

240 - Nostalgia

Saw this pop up on Flickr, prop blur totally makes the pic!

241 - Odd One Out

Really nice simple image, and a nice thought provoker about the journey the coin might have taken to end up with you.

242 - Ring it out Loud

Nice subject, and processing. Shame there wasn't more of a break in the cloud. You get the feeling of the movement, but it seems so much more pronounced when there is clear sky too.

Subscribed btw! ;)

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and comment, In regards to the sunflowers, I agree a lower PoV would have been nice but that would have put the nasty looking fence into shot, and this was taken from the grass verge, there was no public access :shake: I am very guilty of over use of vignette

Please you like what your seeing and thanks for the subscription

I guessed there was something stopping you getting lower, nicely done given the limited access then!

P.S. - I'm a sucker for a vignette too, maybe we should start a self help group? :D

Airport one is fab - nice crop,, or was the camera just that perfectly wide! Nice blur, and composition.

The church is superb also, the tree at the top left does take my eye away slightly, but I feel it also fills in an empty gap.

Nice :D :thumb:

Nice :D :thumb:

Thanks, aircraft are my first photographic love though I don't get to scratch that itch all too often  though I do have a trip to the airport today

I agree the tree is a distraction to some extent but equally it also frames the image a little  it's a little bit of an awkward one as the keep the tree in or remove it

Day 243 - Ryanair 2 for 1 offer :D

We have all seen the fly for a penny offers that Ryanair offer on a regular basis and today I genuinely offer you two planes for the price of one

Aviation photography has always been a big love of mine not that I get to express that love too often :D but today I got to go up to the airport, the weather was not very good but I still got there at about 6pm ready to pick mum up at about 11.30

Love it Matt, perfect composition. You got lucky there! :D

Where is that, EMA? Only 20 mins from me so I may pop down one day :D

Thanks Joe, I'm really pleased with this :D though I'm kicking myself a little as I fudged what would have been a great photo, of a plane on approach with another taking off :bang: :bang:

It is indeed EMA, you should pop down :D it's not bad and usually there are a couple of other photographers there  so someone to talk to between planes  it's about a 30-45min trip for me depending on how much I speed :naughty: I have done a few light trails up there but that is definitely one for doing with company as it can get interesting there at night :D

Cracking shot of the plane Matt, have you ever done light trails at an airport?

I'm really pleased with this photo so thank you Dave :D

Come on Dave, this im me were talking about  yeah I've done a load of trails at the airport  to not on this occasion at I was on my tod and don't particularly like to be there after dark as there are some questionable activities in this location after the sun goes down :D

CLICK HERE for a trail from this location :D

Thought it was a daft question LOL fab stuff Matt

Day 244 - Fly 'o' Fly...

...Did I start this challenge :dummy: actually no I am really loving my challenge  but sometimes it can be a bit of a pain, not very often but it can, yesterday I knew what I wanted for my POTD but I had to go down the garden and saw a poppy flower that was in full bloom and I though that I would have that as my POTD for today, so I went out to have a look at the poppy and take a photo of it, only to find that something (bird, squirrel) I've no idea but it must have bashed the flower and all the petals were on the ground :bang:

I'm pleased with this flower though even though to get this it has been subject to a very heavy crop but I still think that it works :D

I would love to mate, but I am only rocking a kit lens at the moment. Where abouts do you go/sit, as your shot looks nice and close!

You can't beat the sound of a couple of big engines can you!

Nice shot on day 244. Lovely DOF!

Day 245 - Challenge time

I have shot this object to become a little challenge  the only clue is that it is a single object

245/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

Photography wise I used my flash on a high power setting between 1/4 and 1/2 power to really blow the white background out, make it like a bit of product photography, I can already see areas for me to improve

Thanks Joe, I really like 244 myself It works well  a to EMA there are three main areas to view from there is an area at each end of the runway and then if you go into Castle Donington there is a dead end road next to a pub that at this time I cannot remember the name of but that leads to an access road that is next to the runway what will be good for photos

Do you go to the aeropark and then walk round from there? Nice picture of the plane btw. Like the flower as well.

Sorry Michael we cross posted and I missed your response, for all my trips up to EMA I've parked at the end of the runway, there is a access up to the field at the end of the Runway I have never had any issues with security there

Sounds like the area we walked too. Only been once and must go back.

Thats some walk  lower kilbirn to EMA that comes in at a little over 17 miles

Lol!! My daughter loved it there. We spent loads of money the day before taking her to blackbrook zoo as it was her birthday weekend and we got to the aeropark with 30 minutes left and she was loving it! Better than the zoo she said Its the weekend before her birthday so may even end up there on sunday depending on what plans are made.

I hope you make it, there's an interesting Russian cargo jet in at EMA at the moment, If I get news on it's departure time I'll let you know as it will be worth seeing, If I was not busy all weekend I'd be heading up there myself to see it go out  :cuckoo:

Day 246 - I'm watching you!!!

I went to a local country park yesterday, and while walking around looks for some fungi I came across this big bird watching over the path, a very well carved figure, I decided to shoot it at an angle just because I could and also to make use of natural surroundings is the foreground to frame the figure, I used a ND8 Grad to keep the detail in the sky

246/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

PP on this photo includes a bit of tone mapping to bring out some nice colours in both the trees and the sky, while keeping sufficient detail in the sculpture :D

Thanks for the info matt. I would like to head over to EMA. I'm flying fromt here on the 12th, would the kit lens suffice, or would I not be close enough (18-55) ?

No worries, from the right location you would be okay but I would say that you will want to get to landing end of the runway and take pictures of aircraft as they come in as anything else and you wouldn't really have the range

Thanks for that info Matt. No idea yet where we will be ending up today. I like your latest picture. Lovely colours in there and the nd grad has helped a lot.

Wow, great thread. I've spent a good few hours in total today looking through your 365 project. As a new photographer your pictures have been really inspirational to me. I really love your light trails and flower shots. Fantastic!

Thanks I'm very pleased with the bird of prey, it stopped still all that time fore me :naughty:

Day 247 - Getting correctional

Had a bit of look around a church where my cousin got married last year with and took a picture of this stained glass window with a view to try out correcting the perspective in post production :D I'm quite pleased with the correct and there is not as much distortion as I was expecting :)

246 - Nicely composed, but I feel it is slightly over done, on an otherwise nice picture. :dunno:.

247 - That's lovely, brilliant colours.

Look forward to tomorrow's, as ever.

I sort of agree if I'm honest with 246 I think that the blue of the sky is a little too blue  I think that the foliage is about right

I'm quite pleased with today's effort, I got to try something new out so that's always good

I'll try not to disappoint

Hi Matt, like the window, a very nice picture. Top right looks a bit odd, but maybe thats just me.

Ended up at the aero park at EMA today. I did a quick google on my phone for the plane you mentioned, it appeared as if it had left yesterday, when we got there people were talking about a vulcan flyover, we waited but they had to cancel the flight, due to weather conditions, Apparently it is retiring next year. So on a mission for a decent airshow next year to see it.

Hope you had a good time at EMA shame you didn't get the Vulcan it's a very impressive lady  I hope whoever told you about retirement is wrong as it would be a shame so shortly after getting it in the air  :(

I see what you mean about the top right I think it's just a qwerk of the stonework

Hi Matt,

Sorry I've not posted for a few days.

#243 is great ... I do like a good plane pic and great caption!

#244 looks a little on the dark side (on my monitor and to my eye) - but a lovely detailed shot with sufficient DoF to include the petals at the far side of the image!

#245 - No idea what this actually is - a plastic orange wearing a belt? Hard to comment about the flash power (without knowing what it "should" look like colour wise), but you have created a nice high-key image. The focus looks to be on the further part of the item, so possibly due to a shallow DoF (I've not looked at the EXIF) - the lower part looks slightly OOF.

#246 - Like the angle, slightly voyeristic feel to it. Good use of the ND to retain the sky detail - but overall the image looks a little dark - particularly the main subject. However this (as with my other comment above) may be due to my screen, or my eyes, or both! :D

#247 - Nice subject - would like to see the "before" shot to see how the perspective shift has helped. The top looks a little odd - as if it is falling away, but I've no idea if that's actually what it looks like?! ;)

Thank you for your comments, I am really pleased with the plane photo, I love airplanes and I love to photograph them but don't get to the airport that often :(

I think a couple of them may as you say be a little dark  I'm just getting used to a new computer and I'm not entirely sure that I have celebrated it totally correct, I don't think it's far off but not totally sure

I'll sort out a before photo of the stained glass window soon  and post a link to it

As to the mystery object, since a couple of people have guessed the subject I think it is time to post what it is, I is actually a conjoined tomato  and I is a little soft in parts thanks to a shallow DoF but I'm pleased with the High Key effect which is what I was going for

As I said - the percieved "darkness" could well be my monitors - particularly my work machine as it won't have been calibrated at all!

Looking forward to seeing more planes and that before pic then!

LOL @ the twin tomato! I actually have one similar to that ripening on my window sill at home - but it never crossed my mind!

Day 248 - Animal, Vegetable or Mineral???

By request this evening I have shot another challenge photo, I hope that every gets a little bit of fun out of these challenge photo's that I do, answers on a post card :D as to what this is :D

Hiya Matt,

Thanks for posting another challenge .... this has caused some debate amongst us here at mums.

Mum reckons it is a close up of a cabbage leaf

I'm still trying to figure out what it is

Roo thinks it is a mineral ... but when I asked him which mineral ... he just said ... a mineral.

Mum once again needs to know what it is otherwise she is not going to sleep

Cheers

Dawn :)

BTW mum first's thought was that it was a waffle or something with sugar on :D
