MWHCVT(Matt's) Challenge 365 - Completed

Thanks, will I have just got in from a night out looking at potential locations and after about 90 miles I have today's shot and left it processing on the back seat so will upload shortly.

Day 65 is a single exposure I shot in raw with the idea of doing a hdr but have only really played at hdr once before and after looking at the original I decided that the nd grad had done what I was looking for anyway

Hi Matt,

Looks like the ND grad filter did do a great job! I need to get myself some of those some time.......

Some really good shots this week! My favourites being Days 69, 70 & 71.

Day 69 is great because it just makes me want to eat some right now (think I commented on this already on your Flickr), and brilliant focus.

Day 70, again, makes me feel hungry but apart from that the DoF is excellent and the colours are perfect. I also really like how the red 'bear' is central and has all of the photograph's emphasis placed on it, looks really good!

Day 71 is great too, the caption is really good and can imagine this in a newspaper report on the game with that as the headline (with his team having had won the game) (Did they win?). Great exposure and colours look very natural, and I like the slight vignetting to focus on the players. Overall a great shot!

Will :D.

Hiya Matt

Wow you are really going at break neck lighting speed with your 365 and doing a fantastic job at it too. (I wish I could keep up with posting to my 365 like you do, but never seem to have the time to post them, although I have been keeping up with taking the shots) Perhaps I spend too much time commenting in the 52 section

I must say your rugby shots are getting better week on week, and I actually find myself now popping in to check them out :D This last one, day 71 is a corker

I think your thread should come with a warning, i.e., Beware to those who are dieting  as the tempting treats that you capture are scrumptious.

Like your star trails in Day 66.

Also like your Day 63, although the whites look a tad blown.

Your Day 56 is just the type of image I love, very abstract and colourful

And Day 58 is fantastic with the ghosting, very clever indeed!

Well done and I look forward to following your progress with this project.

I will let you know when I have got my 365 up-to-date.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Day 72 - On the Trail

The sun set was just to good to waste so a quick diversion off course to a location that I had driven over at least 50 times.

Thanks will, I am pleased that you are enjoying my progress so far, I am pleased that you picked up my idea with the gummy bears just keeping the red one as the focus.

In relation to the rugby shot, yes the team seen going over for a try in this shot were the winners, though I have to confess to being disappointed with the overall performance of the set and this is the highest level team that I have covered so far but the views on the photos so far have been very poor... :bang: :'(

But for the first time I have emailed a link to the set off to the local paper in the hope that they may like to use one of the images :naughty:

Hey Dawn,

Thanks for the comments, I am pleased that you are enjoying my progress, I will try and take a few less food macro shots this week I promise, as I am dieting myself. I am six months in to my diet and I am at least 65kgs lower than I was so far, only another 110-120kgs to go :) but then I did have a very big incentive to loose the weight...

As always I look forward to your upload as the last update was great

Day 73 - The man behind the camera...

Okay...So I thought it was time to post a shot of the man behind the camera...but I didn't think that I should make it a standard head shot, and as good a job as was done by Siobhan using my camera phone whilst in St. Thomas' I thought that it was time to get the real camera out to do it.

Let me know your thoughts.

Day 75 - If you go down to the woods today.....?

I used a normal picture to create an image like this a few weeks ago, so when out for a walk today with some friends I decided to have a go at creating it in camera and I was so pleased with the result that I decided to use it for my 365 today.

I am sorry that this is not a lot of imagination to this shot, but I have been stuck in home all day and my editing computer has developed a fault that I need to get fixed.

Day 78 - Better than England....

As an avid RFU Guy I was watch the England vs Ireland game getting slowly more annoyed at our performance, yes we have won the championship but would have been a lot better to do it by way of a GRAND SLAM....Well at least Daventry RFC managed to get over the try line...

Day 79 - You are my sunshine

Who here can say that they don't like a nice patch of spring flowers, well here are some Daffodil's to brighten up your day as they did mine...

Hiya Matt,

Daffodils are my favourite flower, so this time of the year is always one of the best for me as they spring up (sadly though they seem to be getting fewer as the years pass). So this photo has really brightened up my day (especially as it has been such a dull day weather wise and I'm suffering a tad cabin fever now )

Your photo is gorgeous well done

Just had a quick looksie at you other days too, have to say Day 75 is brill and very spooky, makes my eyes go all wonky  Also like the calculator shot and the way you have the 76.365 on the display, very clever.

Keep up the good work, you definitely set a fab example for doing a 365.

Cheers

Thanks Dawn, although I feel a complete failure on the 52 front, I have such a backlog on that I fear if I cannot make a window of opportunity to dedicate a day to catching it up this week I am going to have to quit it for this year, I think the issue is that I have thrown myself at the 365 full force being determined to upload in the 24 hour window or in the following day in a worst case that the 52 has just been squeezed out!

I'm pleased that you are enjoying it in regards to the daff's I was lucky in that I happened to drive past a church with thousands of them in great big patches on flickr there is a set of 6/7 daff picks plus some others from the grave yard.

The spooky tree was very effective I think, the calculator was going to feature a bit of selective colouring so that only the 365 keys were in colour but the editing laptop was at a friends for a repair due to overheating CPU

I have already shot today's image but as it is just coming up on 4am I think I need to get to bed so it will have to wait on the camera, all I am going to say is it's a real special shot, just because I want to keep the suspense up a bit till later

Day 80 - Rest in Peace...

This is possibly going to be the most controversial photo that I have posted to date but would really like to hear all your thoughts on the image, special thanks must go to the ghost for making an appearance and agreeing to be photographed...

Day 83 - Being Different

Just felt that with this shot I needed to process it differently simply because I along with it seem's most of my contacts on flickr have been taking pictures of Daffodil's for the last couple of weeks.

Hiya Matt,

Very nice take on the daff with the b&w conversion. I think what works so well here is that you have a nice sharp image.

BTW I took some fab shots of daffs yesterday late afternoon, and thought of you when I took them ;)

Cheers

Ahhh yes the Cotswolds pic .... where was that taken, it looks familiar?

It is a lovely photo, but I think it is a tad OE, especially in the mid zone. The blue sky is spot on as is the lower segment, but the mid just seems a bit too bright.

Otherwise I think you have done well with the composition.

cheers

Thanks, it's Bourton-on-the-Water I have 7 shots over on flickr, maybe I concentrated to hard on getting the nice blue sky, however I did shoot in Raw+ Lrg Jpeg so may be worth having a play with the Raw see what I can do with it, I did dry doing a HDR from the Raw file but with no success ;(

I thought it was Borton-on-the-Water, my favourite place  I absolutely love the village, it is so picturesque in any season. And they have some fantastic shops there too (my son loves the toy shop there) and I love the crystal shop.

They also have a service station that stocks South African produce .... and an all year round Christmas shop .... so I am well in my element there, and one day I would love to live there (when I win the lottery )

It is great and your not the only one that would like to live there (must get my euromillions ticket after I go to see the nurse tomorrow) the only issue I found was having to wait around for people to be out of shot I can only imagine it in season

In summer time it is the hype of activity with loads of peeps picnicking on the riverside.

In winter it is a 'wonderland' and looks absolutely beautiful with all the snow.

OMG I am going to have happy dreams tonight of the beautiful place ;)

BTW if you win the euromillions ... any chance you could buy me a house there?

Cheers

Day 84 - Golden hour trails? Urm go on then why not!!

All on TP know that when it comes to light trails I am an addict who can never pass up a change to go and stand at the end of a runway, on a bridge or where ever there is a moving light source that I can turn into a trail

Day 87 - Challenging myself

As I have said before I am addicted to light trails of all kinds but over the last week or so I have decided that I need to push my skills more so in addition to my usual trails done out in the countryside over motorways I have given myself the pet project of urban light trails.

This photo is from the first set of trails in an urban environment, there are still things that need to be tweaked with the settings to perfect the process but I think that it will be an interesting project.

The location that I selected for this trails session was somewhere that I knew would have a lot of police cars so I thought that I would have a great chance of getting some blues in with the trails alas on this occasion this was not to be the case, well except for the really pleasant pair of officers that pulled into see what it was that we were doing, so I explained what it was and showed him some of the pictures, but alas I could not talk them into a blue lights run through the trail, but this is the result of there visit it is a shame that a little bit of their car was cut off the frame but I still liked it enough to be really pleased with the fact it was taken just after midnight so could be used for today photo of the day ;)

Day 88 - Virgin Airplane

Yes this airplane really is a Virgin, this aircraft has as far as I am aware never flown a paying passenger yet, as it is new to the Virgin Atlantic fleet and is currently being flown on crew training flights around the UK, seen here at EMA it was a really great surprise and brightened up and otherwise dull day.

89/365 - Delightful Daff

89/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

Yeah, I know I have done a few Daffodil's already this year but I saw this and thought that it was such a wonderful example of a Daffodil that it had to feature it in my 365, I have actually given it a bit of an different treatment in post processing, I have desaturated it a little, to help give the petals a bit more definition.

Day 90 - Nostalgia

90/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

This shot was inspired by a current thread on Talk Photography about the oldest Digital Camera that you own, well this is my oldest digital camera and yes that is correct its a 4MB not GB Compact Flash card, that ironically would not even fit this photo of the camera and CF Card on it as this photo weighs in at 6.4MB, I have tested the camera and it is still in full working order so for nostalgic reasons I shall use the camera to take a photo or two in the coming weeks.
