it would look a lot better as dawn broke and the sun rose just as the mountains the the distance converge..luckily there was some water in the lake, others i went past yesterday were very low and i feared it would be more of a peninsula than an island, bright sunshine doesn't help portray a very dramatic image and the strong wind was moving the tree to add to my woes ..anyway im sure il go past it again...but probably not at sunrise( sods law i stayed in LLanberis at an airbnb not 5 minutes walk away a few years back in the winter when there was lots of snow about, it would have looked amazing)

apart from that it was a great day to be on the bike in north wales...the high winds made going over the denbigh moor interesting shall we say..and the A498 was closed for repair so i had to go the long way back and retrace my steps..not the end of the world

I was reading some stats on my bike today (2003 CBR f4i.) and whilst I'm no speed freak, it's obviously a quick bike, it just wants to go.

I would say, to my mind, it's stupid fast and I always know when to back off but it gets to that point very, very quickly.

Basically, stats are this, 0-60, 3.17 seconds, 100, 6.65 seconds. Top speed in 1st gear, 72mph.

Not the fastest bike in the world by any means but I can vouch for it being almost mind bendingly fast (IME). Way faster than I'll ever likely need or go. 600CC puts you in supercar territory, or beyond in some cases.

It did get me thinking though, my bike is an almost 20 year old 600. I have difficulty understanding how a rider can even hold on to a modern, sportsbike, when the taps are opened, like a CBR 1000RRR, or BMW's equivalent, the S1000RR.

Those kind of bikes must be time machines.

Humped seats and straight back! Having said that, just leaning forward and hanging on worked on the Rocket III.

Back in 98 I swapped a TZR250 for a 96 Honda Fireblade
It always amused me when at traffic lights the boy racers revved up their souped up corsas etc trying to outrun me

Just seen the old Top Gear episode where Freddie Flintoff was dropped down a dam (on a bungee cord) in a car and he said that he had done 0-60 MPH in 2.7 seconds at 1 G. A little surfing found me https://jalopnik.com/the-fastest-0-60-time-a-person-could-actually-survive-1792093851 which makes fun reading! FWIW, according to https://triumph-specs.com/models/triumph-bonneville-bobber-1200 , my Bobber takes 3.6 seconds to get to 60 - plenty fast enough for me (and almost as quick as the Rocket III).

That‘s an interesting site. 3.8 seconds for my little 888cc motor.
 
Looks like the fresh 2.5 Rocket is significantly quicker than the old one was to 60 - about 0.9 seconds! The old 2008 Speedmaster is slow in comparison but at 5.6 seconds is still pretty quick compared to most cars!

Yes, I remember that TG episode, Freddie is a nutter. Hammond drove up (more was pulled up) Claerwen Dam in Wales, an area I know well. The mounting points for the pulleys etc are still in the top arch of one of the spillways. Hammond did get a little ruffled.

It's odd, I've never noticed the G so much on the bike, I feel it in the car sometimes but oddly, I've not noticed it to much extent on the bike.

Weird, isn't it! The bikes all outaccelerate any of the cars we have but as you say, the press against the back makes it feel like it's the car winning!

It was funny in a recent episode of TG when they were comparing heart rates while driving different supercars - Freddie's only got relatively hight during a fairly impressive "off" while the others' were hammering just turning the keys!

I thought that too but Freddie is an athlete of sorts, being an ex cricketer. Back in my mountian biking days, my hear rate was around the 60 mark at rest.

I dread to think what it is now, in my mid 50s.


I have no doubt the CBR helps raise it a little at times. ;)

Almost certainly better than mine at almost 60! Mrs Nod's is very low - one of the benefits of being a Yoga teacher, I suppose!

I do my best to avoid stress when driving and riding, although some drivers seem to do their best to thwart my best intentions!
 
A few off road bikies ! There is a track a short walk away from me which is heavily used for comps, As my grandson was staying with us I took him for a look. The action shots were all taken using a !980's 135mm Pentacon manual film lens ( I only have the kit lens for the Sony) so I focused at a point where I intended to catch them and then machine gunned the hell out of them, no skill required !

A mate and I went to motorcycle live yesterday.
Thought the show was good; I wanted to check out the new Enfield super meteor and the BSA gold star and possibly pick up a couple of bits.
I liked the super meteor but think Enfield may put the price too high after chatting to a guy from my local dealer.
The BSA looked ok but didn’t like the position of the clocks, too flat and distant.
We managed to get a test ride each, Rob on the Suzuki gsx1000s and me on a Triumph bobber. The route was good and varied, slow town/50 mph country roads/ 60 mph dual carriageway. All the staff were sound.
I’ve fancied a bobber for ages, I was gutted to find I didn’t like it.
Motor was lumpy low down ok when opened up. gearbox really stiff and notchy. Handling was good when moving but the front end was bloody awful at low speed and on roundabouts.
I’m not sure if it was the fat front tyre and it could have been dropped I suppose but it just felt all wrong and didn’t want to turn.
I’d like to try a std bonnie now but apart from a bit more go being nice, can’t see me swapping the interceptor anytime soon.
 
The Bobber Black is a totally different animal to the narrow front tyred Bobber at low speed. Gearbox is a bit clunky but I see it as being positive in engagement rather than clunky (and it's way less "agricultural" than a new HD...)! I've got pod type air filters on mine which has all but eliminated the lumpiness at low revs, apparently a K&N filter in the airboxes helps too.

Keep meaning to try an Interceptor but since it would almost certainly be just a pleasure trip (dealer knows this and is more than happy for me to do so), I haven't yet found the time.
 
Motor on the interceptor is smooth, gearbox is slick but you’d notice the lower power. Forks and rear shocks seem to vary by Owner; mine feel stiff and other owners say too soft.
Handling very neutral and likes corners. I wanted something to plod along on, this may not be the right bike for that

well i went out round the lake district on Tuesday...200 + miles in thick fog all day, i thought id be good and swap my black visor for a clear visor..pity i never swapped the pinlock at the same time, couldn't see a bloody thing, some stunning views when i managed to climb through the fog with the peaks of the mountains poking through...photos never do it justice. bought a nice sigma 10-20 wide angle lens to try out, managed to drop the hood putting it back into my bag and never realised till is topped again to take some more pics...fuming, went back the 20 miles to where i knew id dropped it...found it...unfortunately someone had driven over it, hey ho, couldnt find an original so had to buy a generic copy...just good to be back on the bike after not riding for 2 weeks with work and a quick holiday to Cyprus getting in the way , roll on Sunday when il be back out
