Just got back from a quick errand, that took me over the M56. The section by Frodsham that has the sign that says " KEEP 2 CHEVRONS APART". People ignoring this warning and tailgating, plus it was raining pretty heavy. That is one of the reasons I dislike the M56. I am always relieved, when I get past the chevron section.

So how do the tailgating drivers behave once clear of the chevron section???
 
Some parts of both the M1 & M6 have been the most horrible to drive. Then there is the M40, which, whilst being quite a fast road, feels much safer.
 
As the religious might say: Motorways prove the existence of god, because they're clearly the work of the devil! :naughty:
 
As I stated awhile back, that KEEP 2 CHEVRONS APART was dangerous during the first lock down.
Do you have any idea the speeds I needed to go to get 2 chevrons behind the car in front? :(

In answer to the question M25 wins hands down

Actually I like motorways it’s just a minority of idiots that drive on them that are annoying

For me its the M25, for the reasons above.
In contrast my favourite motorway is the M74.

M65 (sometimes 2 lanes, sometimes 3) and the M62.
Followed closely by the M6 between Birmingham and Manchester.
 
I like to stay away from motorways, I prefer the scenic routes so even avoid using google maps which keeps trying to take the most industrial route possible.

It was on the right hand lane, lane three. I was in lane one, and the tailgaters were in lane three. They were obviously trying to push the vehicle in front, to either move or go faster. I stayed out of their way.

Not too keen on the M6 North just after Blackpool, I just don't like that stretch of motorway.
 
Northern end of the M5, where it becomes/joins the M6. I've never, in quite a few attempts now had a clear run through there.
 
I used to love motorways back in the day, far too much traffic nowadays.
 
They were a pleasure to drive on in the late sixties and seventies - I avoid them completely now if I can. Drivers are just so selfish and inconsiderate. :cautious:

I act ally loved motorway driving back in the 70s and 80s, when cars were a joy to drive. No fun in it anymore.

I nearly got caught out again, a wagon was blocking the sign to the exit. Thought there was a shortage of HGV drivers, it looked like they were all on the M56 this morning.

For longer trips I always use Garmin Basecamp. I can select the exact route that I want and send it to my SatNav. Initially I only used it for walk planning but I use it for car journeys as well now.
 
As I was saying I don't like the M56, around the Frodsham area where vehicles join the motorway. It can get a bit hectic, and you have to keep a watch out for unpredictable motorists.

You just don't seem to see Police Traffic cars on the motorway anymore, or at least I have not seen one in ages. Not like back in the 80s, when they used to use the Jam Butty cars. You would always see them parked in those little laybys, that they would try and hide behind.

True, I did also go through a section of road that has average speed cameras. I kept to the speed, but some where absolutely hammering it. They must use that section of the road regularly, so they must know about the cameras, maybe they are not getting done for some reason. :thinking:

I used to live 2 minutes from J4 of the M4, and my son lives in Bristol, I've done that stretch far too many times. It's not bad once you are West of Reading. When I lived in London I had very little option but to use motorways. I was 2 mins from the M4, 3 minutes from the M25, 10 minutes from the M40, and about 15 minutes from the M3.

Now I live on the borders of Wilts, Dorset & Somerset, I hardly ever use a motorway, and I try and keep off the A303 as much as I can too.
 
M60 it's just rubbish.

That's part of why I hate it, junctions that force people to jump multiple lanes in a matter of 100 meters.

There are very few traffic plod these days compared to 20 or so years ago. They seem to spend a lot of time attending and controlling incidents or on escort duties rather than keeping an eye on things. Far more cost effective to use cameras to catch speeders than to employ officers to watch all aspects of driving.

Maybe that is the reason some drivers drive appallingly, knowing there is unlikely to be a police car floating about. On my journey this morning, did not see one police vehicle, although there may have been unmarked police vehicles patrolling the motorway.
 
And again there are motorways as Smart as an Amoebas, I stay well away, they don't seem to be the solution to the problem they where invented for.
The section of the M25 near to Heathrow seemed to work for a while, but was not nice to drive along side a 40ton Arctic for miles and miles.

Really? The M65 has to be one of my favourite motorways - normally quiet and crawler lanes on the hills. Always nice to get off the M6 and on to the 65 and set the cruise control.

It was built on the cheap. It didn’t have a central barrier for years.

I hated taking friends to Manchester airport, if I could get out of it I would. The motorways around the airport can be so hectic, and confusing I always end up missing my turn off and going the wrong way.

The junctions for the M60 off the M56 are incredibly confusing for people not used to them.
 
The 2 lane M2 in Kent between Gillingham and Faversham. The road is so busy, road surface is rubbish, so many lorries overtaking other lorries and dawdling drivers.
 
My least favourite motorway is the M6 between Brum and Manchester. In complete contrast is the M50 which runs between Tewkesbury (ish) and Ross on Wye. It’s like motorways used to be, just two lanes and virtually empty most of the time. :)

We got married in St Helens and flew off for our honeymoon from Manchester. My parents took us to the airport and the journey was a nightmare, we only just made it in time.
 
I used to love the M26 when we visited our family in Kent. It can be very quiet at times, although it is known for being a rather "fast" bit of road.
