Most disliked motorways...

Re the section of the M56 near Frodsham:

If everyone drove two chevrons apart there wouldn't be enough room on the motorway for all the vehicles that use it!

And just to open up a new can of worms:

What about these damn speed limits on motorways? You come up against a blockage or go-slow and when you get through it you realise the only thing that could possibly have caused it is a b***y speed limit ! There's supposed to have been research that showed that speed limits ease congestion but it seems to me that they actually cause it.

My least favourite motorway is the M6 between Brum and Manchester. In complete contrast is the M50 which runs between Tewkesbury (ish) and Ross on Wye. It’s like motorways used to be, just two lanes and virtually empty most of the time. :)

Sounds like France!

It is not the full length of the motorway, it is only done in a notorious section, where there are more accidents. Surely if the police spotted you not keeping two chevrons apart, you could get points and a fine.

I don't drive along there very often but I've never noticed drivers keeping 2 chevrons apart. There just isn't room!

Tailgating can be a problem everywhere. It scares me when people do it in heavy rain.

I let the speeders get past me and keep a sharp look out for vehicles creeping up behind me. Missus does not like me using the M56, as it can be scary, as you already mentioned. It can be a bit daunting, waiting to get to the chevron section of motorway.

The one that goes towards the in laws.

Surely the same motorway is your favourite?

Whenever practicable, I avoid motorways. Luckily, there's only one in the county so avoiding them's easy!

The M25, especially the bit around the junction with the M3. It’s always slow and busy, despite being 5 lanes wide. It has the most incredibly rough surface at that point, it looks like pure concrete, no tarmac on it all, plus it’s deeply ridged so the tyres thump over it making it really noisy. I have to use it regularly, always does my head in.

That's the high friction surface designed to increase braking efficiency. When my car had run flats it was so bloody noisey around that bit, basically the A30 to the A217. It's always been a really busy bit of motorway, but I've never worked out why it gets so jammed up at 4pm on a Sunday. I used to live just off of J15, in West Drayton so the M25/M4 were my route home most of the time.

Actually I am reminded again of my local stretch of the M1 J13 -J16 ( either side)
by yet another multiple collision an hour or so ago.
These seem to occur almost daily...

Many years ago I used to travel from Kent to Northampton along that stretch. Horrible bit of road....

And being full of road works ( smart motorway upgrade. its 10x worse now :( )
If I'm heading south I'll jump on at J9
If I'm heading North I'll jump on at J18

When I lived in West London, I had a customer in Northampton, and I would usually go up the M40 and then across the A43. It was a longer way round than the M25/M1, but it was quicker and less stressful.

Just got back from a quick errand, that took me over the M56. The section by Frodsham that has the sign that says " KEEP 2 CHEVRONS APART". People ignoring this warning and tailgating, plus it was raining pretty heavy. That is one of the reasons I dislike the M56. I am always relieved, when I get past the chevron section.

I was brought up in Frodsham..Overton..and watched the Weaver viaduct being built. 1968. Seems that because of its position re cross-winds the eastern edge sees a lot of overturned high-sided lorries. It's one of the longest concrete viaducts on the motorway system.

For my first motorbike tour years ago the route took us around the Brussels ring road. I’d been warned that it was “like the M25 but with Belgians”.
After riding around the actual M25 on the way home at the end of tour I realised that I felt safer on the Belgian version.........

That is the area of the M56 I don't really like, seen plenty of crashes and near misses just there.
