Morrocan Terrorist disarmed on train

Great job. I love it how someone was worried about the Morrocan's possible broken arm, and this American accent said don't worry about the broken arm for now.

Good job done. I think it just shows once again that the threat is very real.

Just watching an interview on the news. Seemed one of them was suspicious, heard him cocking the weapon in the toilet and tackled him as he emerged, with the other two. The news report said 'subdued him' but they beat him subconscious as he sliced at them with a box cutter.
Good work, saved a possible massacre

Would have been horrific, where can you escape on a train

well done those men ,wonder how many more are pouring into europe with the refugees . yet another wake up call for europes governments

Good on the four of them for getting stuck in.

Contrary to reports, the French Interior Minister has said that it was in fact a French passenger who was the first to tackle the gunman.
Bernard Cazeneuve said that the passenger "who wanted to access the toilets in carriage 12, came across an individual with a Kalashnikov over his shoulder," Cazeneuve told reporters.
He "courageously tried to tackle him before the attacker fired several shots," he added.

Typical, just typical....

To be fair, it's not unusual for the U.S. claim responsibility for saving the world is it, so maybe for once it actually was a French person and the Americans piled in after.

They've missed him out of all the photos then. It was pretty well documented. And on the video there was only one French voice to be heard...But yes it could be. Heck it could be a Belgium Wallonian. Or another Moroccan? Who ever it was, they've done a good job. Hurt him enough to demobilise and not enough to kill him.

Or use a drug that actually works during interrogation ;)

He won't talk, these jihadists never do. They are dedicated to their cause. Its why we must do everything we can in our power to thwart them and these actions have thwarted a jihadist.

No doubt at some point these rather courageous gents will be found to have somehow breached the human rights of this poor faithful jihadi servant, who was, allegedly of course, simply carrying out the wishes of his chosen deity :(

I wonder what would have happened to them in the UK? Heroes or villains?

Quality! We got him and just beat him up.....then The older guy jumped in and tried to make it out they didn't give him a kicking! Fair play to tackling it and not standing buy videoing it!

I'd hope the British would back up those who helped out if it would happen here! Can't trust no one anymore

Sadly they might have been prosecuted for GBH. :(

Glad they got him, whether the French guy or the Americans. That could have been extremely nasty.

There would be a protest from the "Help all the rotters" brigade wanting the heroes banged up.

US Soldier: How We Stopped Train Gunman

An American soldier has told how he helped overpower a gunman who opened fire on a train from Amsterdam to Paris.

Alek Skarlatos, 22, was on a European holiday with two of his childhood friends, Spencer Stone and Anthony Sadler, when they heard gunshots on the train.
When the gunman burst into their carriage, Mr Skarlatos and Mr Spencer, who is in the Air Force, charged at him.
"I just yelled 'Let's go!'," Mr Skarlatos told Sky News from his hotel from in Arras, northern France.
"Spencer got to the guy first, grabbed the guy by the neck and I grabbed the handgun, got the handgun away from the guy and threw it.
"Then I grabbed the AK, which was at his feet and started muzzle thumping him in the head with it."
As Mr Stone was wrestling the gun off the suspect, he was badly cut by the suspect, who had a box cutter knife.
Mr Stone needs surgery on his badly wounded hand, but his friends say he is "doing fine". Two other people were also wounded in the attack.
After the suspect was restrained, Mr Skarlatos - who only recently returned from Afghanistan - began disarming the gunman's pile of weapons and realised the AK47 had jammed.
"He didn't know how to fix it, which is very lucky," he said.
"If that guy's weapon had been functioning properly I don't even want to think about how it would have went.
"Spencer would have been dead for sure, because he was the first one up.
"We were incredibly lucky."
Mr Skarlatos and Mr Sadler said their "heroic" friend also saved the life of another passenger, whose throat was cut.
"In the aftermath, we saw that a man's throat had been split and he was bleeding profusely," Mr Sadler said.
"Spencer, who has some paramedics training, just clogged up his neck so he wouldn't die. This is all in the midst of Spencer bleeding profusely himself.
"It was just really heroic of him to do something like that."
He added: "I just applaud my friends for being on point.
"If Alek didn't yell 'Go!' and Spencer didn't get up straight away who knows how many people he would have shot."

I think I'd be a damned fine moderator.

Certainly an interesting one. Sales of popcorn would go through the roof .................... :)

Apparently according to one press report the Morroccan was just planning on robbing people - please with an AK47 and umpteen loaded magazines?????? The Yanks did good!

Reports of them being given French honours also mention a Britsish Guy in passing - what was his role?

Same as the yanks....one of those who overpowered the gunman.
Another, the first to "have a go" as I understand it, was shot in the neck and is recovering.

Well done everyone who piled in, regardless of who they were. The American marine who ran straight at him from a distance though does seem to have taken the biggest risk, he was an unmissable target and if only the terrorist had been halfway competent at handling his AK47 (which for once actually was an AK47) it would have ended very differently.

Nice to see that all 3 were awarded the Croix de Guerre, no delays, nobody saying that it couldn't be done because their heroism didn't happen in war.

If that had happened in this country they would have been arrested for GBH, kept on bail for months and then told that they were luck not to be charged.

Unfortunately that is exactly what I suspect as well. Makes you think of what kind of society we've created. Hmmm

I'm due to take that train in September, coming back 11/09 :/

It's incredibly brave what they did. I don't know if I could do the same in that situation.

Make sure you are wearing a clean shirt and underwear and that all your affairs are in order. Fate hates people who tempt it

Comes in handy doesn't it, having off duty soldiers (OK and Airmen) with gonads, cutting about the place. If it had happened in Blighty, Some contributors here would have been tut tutting about their behavior towards civilians and how they put the rest of the passengers in danger.

I think a lot depends on what you are faced with at the time - if you have a terrorist running at you with a loaded AK47 you haven't really got a lot of options have you? I think a lot of people would go for it.

Sadly, almost nobody in that situation finds themselves able to intervene, the military are different, they are trained to go forwards and trained to have confidence in themselves.
Also, all military have at least basic training in firearms, so they can see at at glance whether the gunman is competent, which is a massive advantage.

We have a young guy working here, who is a reservist. I have no doubt that he is one of the people who would go forward. On the other hand, I have a lifetime of experience with guns but I don't kid myself that I would be able to do it.

Lets hope none of us get in a situation where you have to make that kind of call!

I doubt it! They woild probably get on the new years honours.

Also, if it had happened here, the hero's would more than likely be living under fear of retribution from our home grown extremists, so possibly wouldn't be named, let alone honoured.

Of course they'd be named.
The UK gutter press have no cares at all who they place in danger.
