Looking to upgrade the monopod, would prefer Manfrotto and want to know about different models.

Must be fairly strong and about 65''.

Weight not an issue.

thanks for that, I had fancied a 681B but just wondered what everyone used and get a hands on review.

I'm always on the lookout for a 680B or 681B - I've had my hands on one and it feels like a nice sturdy piece of kit.

There is one reason why I would not want one: I'll rarely take my tripod anywhere! I currently use that as a monopod, by letting one leg down :cuckoo:

Hi there,

I am 6'3" and decided that very few of the Manfrotto monopods went high enough.

I went for a Giottos MML 3270B. There is one slightly taller than this one by Giottos. Specs on the Giottos website.

Just re-read your original post - thought you said you were 6'5" but you're looking for a 65" monopod - doh.

Another vote here for the 681B it's a great bit of kit and doulbles as a handy club for fending off unwanted 'chav's' ;-)

I am 6'2" and the manfrotto 681 is plenty tall enough for me! The 681 is the 681B in aluminum colour. I would have preferred the black 681B but, got a deal I couldn't resist on the 681.

The 681/681B is a 3 section pod. This allows it to be a bit sturdier yet weigh less than four section pods. It is an excellent pod in all respects however, if you requite a pod which will collapse into a shorter package, look for a 4 section pod.

I use my 681 with a Kirk Enterprises MPA-1 Manfrotto Swivel tilt head with Kirk Quick Release This Manfrotto swivel head has been fitted with a quick release clamp specially designed by Kirk specifically to fit the 3232 head. This custom designed anti-twist mechanizm will not loosen during field use.

The Arca Compatible Kirk QR system allows the use of my RRS L-Bracket which makes shooting in the vertical position using a non tripod ring equipped lens very pleasant.

I use a Manfrotto 679B with a 234RC head on top. The head not only allows easy switching from landscape to portrait orientation but adds at least 2" to the height of the 'pod (in landscape orientation). I'm 6'1" and can stand up straight with this combo so don't aggravate my iffy back.

Don't forget the camera, grip and monopod head will add quite a lot to the total height of a monopod. Its also possible to extend by getting an aluminium extender made to go between the head and the monopod itself.

I've got the 680B, which being the 4-section model, is slightly heavier, but it is much more compact when collapsed

Thanks guys,

My eye level is at 68-69'' and if I take off 5'' for the camera base to viewfinder height I'm lookung at 63-64'' monopod height.

I don't think I will bother with a head just now as I intend to screw it directly onto the lens ring.

I would have preferred to see one in the flesh but I might just go and order one. They're about £40.

I've got the 680B aswell, with a 488 head on it I dare anyone to try to nick my kit!! The only complaint I have is how noisy it can be when you extend the thing. I found that before I bought the head (started with just a quick release plate) I often left it at home because I found it too restrictive, but with the head it's fab.

Noisy? :thinking::shrug:

I have the 682b and find it great those little pull out feet are a great help at times

Me too - Exactly!! I added the 676 spike foot as I tramp round the fields a fair bit.:clap:
All I need to do now is extend the foam insulation down the first and possibly second sections: cold hands don't make for good shutter control!:bang:

That looks a really good deal for that Monopod although the 680B is £53.73 including the 234RC Head at Morris Photo.

Is it possible to buy the feet that you get on the 682 seperately and fit them to a 681 or 680?

Also have looked at the Redsnapper,
RSM-284 Monopod & RSH-20 Mini Ball Head £37.95
Seems very cheap but is it good quality?

Well,

received my Manfrotto pit prop this morning!

:lol::lol::lol:

I would think if it is Shandwick Place it would have stock as it is a 'pro camera centre'!

I'm going for the red snapper monopod and head. Looks like a great deal!

Yeah I was tempted but I've got some Jessops vouchers to use but I may well go for the Redsnapper Tripod in the near future it looks very good also.
