Great idea, and nicely composed, but what other have already said about the WB and maybe a contrast boost.

grey, as you image is mainly white, the camera exposes it incorrectly, so it needs a little boost in post

and a play with the WB would lift it a little.

I agree with the above crit about the WB issue,

Hmmmm I like the image, but wonder that the colour may not be far off, cream carpet and cream lining looks okay to me, I wouldn't expect white carpet and white slipper linings, could of course be wrong

Thank you Dark Knight the White Balance is indeed perfectly fine as both the slippers and background are cream and not white

What a great find. At first I thought the horizontals should be corrected...but with that spot on vertical I think it makes for a more dynamic image as it is.

That's really nice Alison - I like that. Beautiful colours against the plain white fg & bg and still managing to ground the "marbles".

Hi Alison,
Hairy - I think the angle helps, a square on shot would not be as dramatic, it's certainly the most odd but on theme shot for the subject.
Good choice of this one over the wider shots.

Mineral - Much better white balance
I agree with Carl, it works really well against the white background, yet still grounds the marbles rather than has them floating in space.

What's not to like, nice lighting, nice colours. You've kept the fluffiness in the cotton wool, my only comment it would be it seems a little tight on the left side only by a smidge. Would be nice if it matched the other side

I think with the first one nearly dead centre I would have used that one as the focus point allowing all the others to slowly fade away.

What a great idea for a base - the fluffiness really emphasises the smooth surface of the marbles. Well done with the lighting too - I like the very even double highlight on each.

Thanks every one for the comments all very welcome the fluffy base was to keep the marbles from rolling away and I made sure to sort out my white balance this time
as the background was meant to be white.

Well done with the lighting too - I like the very even double highlight on each.

looking at the highlights I realise there is a bulb out on our ceiling light I have since replaced it

Structure

Structure - I like the crop on this image, the tiny black spot in the top left of the image I would of cloned out. Other than that I like the dream like feel the image has, and the fact that the clouds and the water blend into each other nicely in the distance.

I agree with Mandy about the blending of sky and sea - but the structure just seems a little bit small in the frame.

Have not been to Herne Bay for yrs. I like the shot, but agree with Emma that the structure does look small in the frame

I like it, even though it seems to be small in the frame I think it adds to the overall feeling of isolation too.

I like the letterbox crop and the blending of the sea and the sky at the horizon. And I also like the feeling of isolation that comes from the structure being so small in the frame.

I thought it was Brighton to begin with - Herne Bay eh! must make a point of dropping by sometime. Yes, I too like the framing, isolation and subtle pastel colours.

That brought back memories, I worked in Herne Bay when I was 21 I love the soft feel to it Alison with the wind turbines lost in the distance, it works really well for the topic.
