Yes
I saw a mini traveller for the first time today.
What on earth were BMW thinking of, do people really buy these, I think in that version the Mini is ruined.

The regualar-size is an awful attempt at the mini anyhow. THe clubman is just twice as bad. It looks wrong in so many ways. They have only designed it for European roads too. If your child was too get out of the back of one over here they would be stepping out into on coming traffic  I really really dont like the regualr-size they screwed up making that it is nowhere near a ruddy mini, same as the battered golf I mean Beetle.

I'm sure they'll sell well, good taste and access to money do not necessarily go hand-in-hand. The early "original" BMW Minis were notorious for all sorts of gremlins and build-quality issues, but people still bought them in their droves, because it was "cool" :shake:

At least it was relatively compact, the new one looks as if it needs to spend some time on a diet :D

What's the bet there'll be a four door version out next called the "Maxi"? Wonder if it will have a cable gearchange too  ;)

yeh i saw one in the flesh for the first time yesterday morning, looks awful!

as an owner of an original miniclubman estate they even forgot to put the correct front end on it, dumb germans

I personally think the whole Mini concept is dead anyway as the newer Mini goes.. it really isn't MINI!!

I must agree I saw one a week or so back for the 1st time
And thought WTF? then!

One word 'Handbags'. Enough said.

Doesn't look much better as a van......

Despite my user name i drive an 07 BMW MINI Cooper S. And it is a great car. It has the build quality of a German car (something that a British car can only dream of) and is so much fun to drive. The customer service from BMW is second to none too. Ok so your paying premium for the car, but hey i don't care if the thing does not breakdown and stays in one piece?

I agree about the Clubman/ Traveller though. The rear door pillars obscure the view out the back, the suicide door is on the wrong side for this country. Some of the design is also a bit suspect.

Although there are a great deal of people out there who do not like the 'new' mini there are also a great deal of 'classic' owners who recognise that BMW have a huge part to pay in the popularity of the classic. The problem is that the Germans saw a business opportunity when the owners of Mini were in financial trouble, then had the balls to take a great brand and develop it further, and i think fulfill the brands potential.

Which British car would that be?

Honda Civic ??

Nissan Micra ??

(VW) Rolls Royce ??

The Mini is built and assembled in the UK, it may have a German parent, but it is essentially a UK car.

Did you know that, including the Mini factories, BMW actually have 5 manufacturing plants in the UK ????

Anyway, buy a Focus, you'll be better off and get a better drive !

My point exactly!

Would not want a focus, i would rather drive a coffin! Ford just churn out cars with no fun factor in them. The MINI is like the cheeky lttle cousin of the BMW family, so many smiles to the pound.

As for the comment about the mini being built in the UK, yes correct but with the German attention to detail. I have owned a couple of MG's that were about the same money as my MINI and i have to say that the build quality is so much higher.

BTW is it called a clubman or a traveller ?.

It's called "Clubman". Originally it was to be called "Traveller" but it turns out that Rover didn't actually own the rights to that name and BMW can't find out who does. So Clubman it is.

The Focus has one of the best handling chassis in it's class.
The MINI is by no means little.
BMW's over rated, over priced and under specced.

I think they only sell minis to attractive women to keep the image up, i've never been to a BMW showroom, are the doors really narrow so the fat ones can't get in

LOL!

I ditched the focus for my BMW Mini. Note I refer to it as a BMW, but there will still be some archaic person that'll diss me for not have a real one. BMW owners don't care if it's not small, they don't care if it's not a classic. The only people that care are the ones that don't own one.

I don't want a classic mini! Go eat your Werthers Originals!

;)

I should also add, i have 19inch rims and 10pot Tarox Big break kit on mine :D

Two stupid big door handles on the back!.

Kay Jay and EdinburghGary, thanks for posting, i was feeling out numbered for a while.

May i also add that i love the classic mini's.

Just a thought though. Lets look at a couple of cars that evolved over time. VW Golf and Polo. Ford Fiesta. Now lets look at the shapes of those cars when they first hit the market, and the latest shape of them. All of them are larger in size and look like completely different cars.

So who's to say what design road the mini could have gone down in the last 10 years since the classic (i think the last reg was 99) if BMW had not got their hands on it.

Yeah but they were not iconic.

I prefer my cars not to break, but to have decent brakes.

But none of those cars were called Mini which meant small

The Mini was redesigned years ago, but due to bankruptcy had a very short life.

The Innocenti Mini.

the original innocenti coopers were lovely.

ive recently fallen back in love with my clubby estate, gave it a good wash at the weekend, sat in the drivers seat and made engine noises, now all i need is a garage to build it in

I had an '07 Mini Cooper S, and found it to be not that good. The handling is biased too far towards saftey, there are too many "Driving Aids" eg. Traction Control, and ESP. The tyres are too hard, and not grippy enough, and because of insurance regulations, you HAVE to use Runflats or you risk invalidating your insurance premium, and they only last about 10-12000 miles, and cost £120+ each. Inside they are good, if a little smal for my needs, you get a lot for your money, but the car just didn't do it for me in the fun stakes, so i went back to my second EP3 Civic TypeR, the "Bullet" shape. I loved my first one, and kinda regret getting rid of it, but hindsight is an amazing thing eh? They handle great, go like stink, when allowed, look great, and are built amazingly due to them being Jap. As for Fords, i would only have two, an RS Focus or Mark 2 Mexico:lol:

The brakes are fantastic when warmed up. I used to do a lot of mini rallies around the Scottish highlands and they came in very useful a number of times. They also lowered my insurance costs lol.

Most of this is rubbish and also depends on how you drive your car ;) . My run flats still had tread on them after 15,000 miles. Also what insurance company are you with that won't let you change tires? The cost also depends on the size and, if run flats are not your thing then spec the car without them. Insurance regulations? What? Sounds like you got mugged. You can spec the car without traction control when you buy it and if you do get it fitted you can turn it off. :D It's much more fun without traction control which is why I specced my one without it.
