Michael23's 52! Revised Slide Show Added

Hi,
Sorry but the first shot does not work for me. Not that it isn't on theme, but there is too much empty space between the leaves on the right side, and this unbalances the shot, as the left is very busy.

The moon shot is almost on the money. It speaks to me as hidden. Dark side of the moon, eclipse, the unknown... all very well shot. For me the best crop is a 7x5 portrait, with the moon on the right 3rd line, leading you into the dead space on the left. Finish this off with a simple black and white stroke border, and you have a great, no, a fantastic shot.

Well done.

Adie

Thanks for the comments everyone. I understand what you say about the crop of the moon, I shall address that, Adie, I will give it a go later and see what I can do with it, a great suggestion

Number 2, I am glad it's liked, I didnt think it would suit everyones taste. Adie do you think a cropping the dead space would help? I will probably take a look later when I am back at home.

Let's have another guess what it is shall we? :D I wonder if anyone can guess what is hiding from you!

Hiya Michael,

I have looked at the first photo over and over again, and I think I can see what is hiding ........

is it Monkey?

Cheers

Dawn :)

Well that didn't take long did it! It is indeed Monkey. He had a fun time at sherwood forest yesterday. Have you all seen the monkey thread? , I added his latest pics.

Hiya Michael,

Wooohooo! I got it right

Thanks for the link to the Monkey thread, I haven't visited there before now .... some cool shots. I might have to take some of Monkey some time .... if I can find him as he is in hiding

I tell you what .... you really had me baffled with the first photo, well done it kept me looking at it for hours. At first I thought his eye was a bug, but then I thought 'why would Michael take an OOF shot of a bug under some leaves' ... and that knitting (which I thought was odd looking soil at first) had me flummoxed.

Well done, you have definitely done good with this week

Cheers

Dawn :)

It will help, losing from where the right middle leaf curls, and also loose some off the top.

Not sure it will "save" it, but it will balance it out better, IMHO :)

Hiya Dawn, that monkey thread is excellent. I look forward to seeing your monkey pics. He will be very pleased when you find him ;)

Adie

Hi Adie, thanks for your opinion on that. Much appreciated

For some reasons, I just can't get a sharp moon shot like yours so can I ask what settings and lens did you used?

Hi Stan have refreshed my memory now.

The equipment used was:
Canon Eos 30d
Kowa Tsn 824 telescope (normal birdwatching scope)
850mm photo adapter, including 1.6x crop factor effective focal length of 1350mm!

Exposure was 1/100sec @ iso 200.

The best thing to do is to stick your camera in manual mode and basically play around with the shutter speed and aperture values. You could use exposure compensation, but as it only offers a couple of stops under, in my experience this is not enough. I start of with what the camera says and then go into manual and altering the shutter speeds and take some test shots, reviewing them as I go along. I hope that makes sense, any other questions, just give me a shout and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Fantastic moon shot Michael, really well done. Monkey shot was a bit too hidden for my liking though.

Twisted is well ace (as my kids would say)
great shot and idea

Thanks for the comments Paul and Colin. It was surprisingly hard hiding monkey, the wind was getting up and blowing stuff everywhere! Also his top is red and sticks out like a saw thumb. Monkey is still complaining as he wants some new clothes :naughty:

3rd take on a theme!! What's come over me :naughty:
Anyway, today has been a funny old day, we had no idea where to go, my brother who was driving couldn't decide either, so we started putting letters in on the sat nav and up came previous locations. Up came Castleton and off we went. A great day had by mtself, wife and daughter and my brother and of course monkey. I came across this sign in the car park and immediately thought of WEEK 22!! So trying to beat a horrible migtaine I got the pic, and edited tonight. Quite like this one myself.

The invisible tape they have used for the sign fits the theme too! :D
Might have been worth lowering the camera slightly and getting the sign face on so that the verticals are not converging. And the vignette at the top is distracting from the text. Well spotted and worth battling the migraine hope your head feels better now.

Hi Michael, a fantastic thread you have going here, sorry I haven't commented recently.

"Promise" excellent image. It's really interesting to see how you gradually developed this pic and your thought processes. The final version is just brilliant. It has an ethereal feel and very atmospheric. You will probably kick me for saying this, bit I don't think the little ornament adds to the image, but I can understand it has special meaning for you.

"Twisted" is just great. The ones with the toy snake don't do much for me. But the wool one is just beautiful. I prefer the simplicity of the original shot. Very good detail and clarity and nice lighting. The abstract version is interesting, but not nearly as captivating as the original.

"Hidden" the moon shot is great - I know how hard these are to do well and you have achieved at good capture.

But, finally that shot of the leaves. I love it. It's my favourite pic on here for quite a while. I am blown away by this shot ... please will you marry me:love:
The detail it brilliant and the DOF is just so perfect. Great mono conversion. You MUST have this printed and framed.

Hi Colin, thanks for your thoughts. I was tyring to get an even vignette, been having another play this morning and found out where I went wrong. My software had numbers from 1-10 thinking it was done in strength, but each one is a different pattern :bonk: See below for altered image. Now I wish I had crouched down and got level but I just didn't think about it, I will remember this for our next visit. It did make me smile, nice, beautiful countryside village, and the state (?) of this sign.

Thanks so much Patrick for the brilliant comments! I am so flattered, which doesn't happen easily I might add  I have been wanting to get some more moon shots recently, but we have not long come into a new moon, and is setting rather early in the night, so will have to wait a bit longer. Don't worry about the ornament comment, I couldn't do such a thing after such a nice comment :naughty:

Now I really want to know what the next theme is....

Hi Michael

cripes...you have been busy !

Sorry but I can't really add to whats already been said about your last few shots but....

love the Moon capture , fits the the theme with being semi hidden & having tried myself to get shots like this I appreciate seeing such a good one

Your capture of the leaves for Hidden is wonderful...had to read the posts a couple of times to figure out what/who was hiding....great idea & beautifully shot

Unfortunately I have an item suiting this theme very well! Picked my backpack up the other day, forgetting to zip it up! Out fell my gripped 30d which had my 200 f2.8 attached! Thank god it was only the grip that broke! I am very unhappy anyway. :annoyed: I do also have a broken immersion heater, but I have been in the loft enough times in the last month, so stuck with this one. God I need some good luck to come my way...

:shake:, very painful.

Shove it on eBay under 'slightly damaged"......(I'm joking...:D).

Hiya Michael,

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune, but at least you were quick on getting a photo up .... so even in its broken state it still had a use. Thank goodness that was the only thing that broke (even though that was bad luck) .... I certainly hope lady luck will shine on you soon.

(Note to self ... remember to zip the backpack tomorrow on the tutored photo-walk)

As for the photo .... I think you have done well there, and posted so quickly too. It almost looks like the grip is floating .... like it is on its way to battery-grip heaven :D (I know :cuckoo: .... but heyho someone has to be :p)

Now that you have posted so soon, what are you going to do the rest of the week?

Cheers

Dawn :)

Oh Michael I feel your pain. So often have I done that sort of thing and so far have got away with it but am now resolved to take more care. (Have you got good contents insurance?)

Onto the photo, I was going to say 'bang on theme' but I've decided that would be cruel. So it's right on theme :D

In focus, well lit, consistent background for the condition and story

What a complete pain. I did the same a couple of months ago , but was lucky and got away with a scratched lens cap.

Great shot for the theme. Photographically I think it needs something more to add interest. Maybe photograph it falling? (with something soft to land on out of the frame!)

It will sell on ebay - definitely. I saw a broken lens caps on there recently:lol:

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. It was indeed very painful! Dawn, your comment about battery grip heaven brought a great big smile to my face. I would imagine some one would buy it if I bunged it onto ebay. As for the rest of the week, I will be on the look out for other things that will fit the theme, but I don't really know. Will be waiting for electricians to fix my water heater again, and my daughter is back at school on monday.

My first thought when I looked at the image was "Ebay" and the word "Untested"
I think for the picture to work though a more interseting angle is needed.

Hi Michael

OUCH...I've dropped a filter yesterday & nearly had a fit ( it was ok) , I'd have had a total melt down If I'd dropped the grip...

Good idea for the theme & certainly very fitting , as per Colin for the angle but nice work none the less

Im thinking your photo would have also suited a theme of Expensive... that's real hard luck mate... but at least your camera and lens are ok... I'd give them a real good test however if I was you... just incase you've knocked anything... cant you claim on the insurance?

I would of loved to see how you was going to get a shot of immersion heater, lol its not my Favorited of yours but its a well thought out theme especially when :thumbs:some of your kit gets damaged

Cheers Paul, had I thought about it, I should have asked to keep the old element! Could have made an interesting photo! I might do a reshoot of broken when a reshoot card come up, I am on the look out for broken things!

Hello everyone! Been a long week! And its not even over yet :gag: Anyway, not been feeling too good, so I have not really had much chance to think about this week, but managed to get in the garden the other day when we had some glorious sunshine. It is one of the lovely violas I have out in flower. A beautiful yellow flower looking so bright in the sunshine. I have pushed the saturation a bit in photoscape as the top petals had blown out, I tried different exposures at the time, but the same problem occurred.

Week 24, Bright by scilly puffin, on Flickr

I will try and catch up on everyones 52 this evening hopefully, if not I hope to get round before the new theme is announced. Off to sort food now

Hi Michael

sorry to hear you've been off color , have a  from me :)

Ignoring the slightly ( very slightly ) blown petals I love the picture , great detail in the centre & nice positioning  The bit of blue to the right & the orange & blue to the top distract , but only very slightly & guess they are other viola's ?

Great shot none the less & certainly makes me feel bright & cheery

Hiya Lynne and Tina, thanks for the  starting to feel a little better. Those petals were hard work! The other colours are indeed other violas, I tried to isolate one flower, but there a lot of them. Glad you like it.

Hi again everyone, amongst the rain showers this afternoon, I managed to get the image I was hoping to get for this weeks theme! An image of the sun did feature earlier in my 52 project, (to long ago to remember which theme ) I wanted to capture an image including a sunspot. And today I got a group of them, there was another but I couldn't get that one. Cloud decided to hamper me!

So here we are, our sun photographed today including sunspot group 1236
