Michael23's 52! Revised Slide Show Added

Hi Michael, great image. I like all the different flora and fauna which is a good demonstration of Mother Nature's variety and power.
The main shot of the gannet is just brilliant and the puffin is excellent too.
I agree with Andy that some of them are cropped in too tight, but overall it's a great image which shows a lot of skill, patience and imagination.

Patrick

Michael, the gannet shot is fantastic, I noticed it on your flickr when you first put it up and was very impressed with the detail and sharpness. Not taking anything away from the other shots as they are good too, The gannet just stood out.

Really liking your Power montage. I never once gave a thought to the power of Mother Nature, whilst scratching my head over what to do. Great idea. I dont really have a problem with how tightly they are cropped because of how you have arranged them. if for example the gannet had more wing showing then there would be dead space around it. for that reason it all works really well and the montage is tightly packed with detail and no dead space, Does that make sense ?
Great detail, great idea , great work

Hello everyone! I am going to use a photo which I took whilst I was in Yorkshire at the beginning of the month, which I was hoping to use in this 52 project. This has to be one the most photogenic bridges I have come across and I only had a very short space of time at this particular site. (We were all hungary and in need of fish and chips and they were closing soon!) So unfortunately no time to switch lenses, this was taken at the 70mm end of my 70-300. The evening sunlight was just lovely on the bridge. This one fits well for the theme, and as I liked it so much I thought I would include it. I should be doing another picture for the theme during the coming week, as long as I don't get side tracked by the busy times ahead. I don't like being behind :D

3 versions, as I like them all!

Hi Michael. very nice shot of a great location. Very good discovery.
The colour version hits the mark for me as the colours of the evening light are just so beautiful. I really like the reflections in the water and the way the foliage is framing the bridge. Also like the shadows of the branches on the light coloured stone.

Looks like it needs a slight straighten.

Hiya Michael,

You have 3 lovely photos there, each has a different feel about it through the processing you have applied.

I have to agree with Patrick about the first being the best of the 3. Love the reflection and the colours.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Patrick, thanks for the comment, I have done some straightening on these, which did seem a little to trick to get correct, I will take a look and see if I can make a difference.

Hi Dawn, I was pleased with the reflection coming out as well as it has, it looked superb from behind the camera.

Hi, Michael, I'm going for #3, I like the nostalgic feel.. Pity it's a little crowded.

Cheers.

Hi Andy thanks for the comment, it's nice to have an image which is suited to more than one style of processing. I really do wish I had something wider on at the time!

Hi Michael

Really really like the B&W conversion of the Bridge shot , very nostalgic feel to it

Beautiful montage for Power & all great shots , nicely put together as well

Hi. As others have said its the colour one for me too!

Not convinced the sepia works. In fact not convinced about sepia at all unless its a proper old print! Tryed it so many timesbut always change it backto straight b and w.

You nature power montageis perfect! U need toget outtothe bass rock off north berwick. Europes biggest ganet colony!

Great work

M

Colour one for me too. The light on the brickwork is very harsh and has lost some of the detail. I think the B&W conversion could be done to greater effect to bring the detail back.

Hi Michael,
I prefer the b&w. It draws my attention to the bridge more and I don't notice the tree on the right as much.

Another vote for #1 though I find the light a little harsh but I much prefer it to the other treatments. A classic solution for our divided landscapes
Hi Tina, thanks for the comment, glad you like it. Just wish I had more time there!

Hiya Lynne, thanks for your comments and pleased you like them both, much appreciated

I like the colour version the best out of the three. The light, the colour and the reflection work for me.

Well done.
Hi Stan, thanks very much.

Hi Mark, I understand your thoughts on sepia, I like the effect, but always find it hard to work with a subject, I just try it everynow and then. Glad you like my power image, now I would love a trip to Bass Rock!

Hi Colin, the loss of that little bit of detail is annoying me now, I know it's there but my processing skills aren't the best in the world, This is where I wish I had photoshop.

Hi Michael,
I prefer the b&w. It draws my attention to the bridge more and I don't notice the tree on the right as much.
Thanks Jonathon, glad you like it.

#2 for me... Although it feels like you've ever so slightly blown the brightness. Have you got this on a Raw file?

A candidate for a subtle HDR me thinks!

Nice bridge/stream and a good find!
I do have it as a raw file, I have been trying to do a subtle hdr on it, through oloneo and so far I have not managed to get anything right, I will keep trying.

I have decided to have another go at this image, and I have come up with another 2 edits, 1 colour and 1 black and white. Both of these edits were done in oloneo photoengine hdr software, the frame and straightening was done in photoscape. I thought I would post the results to see what you all think

Thankyou everyone for your input and comments. I am sorry for being behind in commenting on all of your 52's, I am having one of those weeks! Had no hot water since sunday, but it's fixed now, and I have just been so fed up! Anyway, my little moan over! And I will endeavour to catch up.

Colour one looks better to me now. Black and white looks really good now and even better than the colour, maybe still needs a slight contrast boost. Great edits Michael

that bridge is a fab location, sort of place I could spend a fair bit of time, loving the last colour edited one, nice job :0)

Thanks everyone, quite pleased with these 2 edits. With regards to the contrast, I did try a contrast boost in photoscape when I applied a little sharpen, but the contrast didn't alter very much at all, not sure why that would be though.

Cheers Kev, thanks for your comment, much appreciated. It was a glorious day when this was photographed, quite hot as well. It could be anywhere tropical as you say, this particular beach was on St Agnes, Isles Of Scilly. I quite like the tilt shift effect too.

Well these weeks certainly seem to be flying by. My daughters friend had a cops and robbers themed birthday party today, so Caitlin was dressed as a police officer.
So I came up with "Promise To Be Good And I Wont Have To Arrest You"

Hope You like it!

My main image is going to take a bit of setting up to get the right balance.

Hiya Michael,

Love the take on the theme .... and what a cool party theme to have..... must remember that one for Reuben

Good pic, the whites are a bit blown, but otherwise I think you have nailed it.

cheers

Dawn :)

Some great shots in your thread Michael.
I'm very envious of your Paradox images, great takes on the theme.
Hi Neil thanks very much for taking a look, pleased you like my images, the paradox one I really like myself and one of my favourites of my 52 so far.

Hi Dawn, thanks for popping in, it was quite cool, both parents of Caitlins friend works for the force, so the fancy dress had to be that! The light was rather awkward when I took the picture, plus that hat blocked a lot of light out from Caitlins face, so had to use a bit of flash. Will most probably reshoot this at some point,

I really like your promise theme & nice composition too, although I'd have liked a shallower DOF to blur the fence a little but that's me being picky 

Nice one Michael. Lovely shot for Promise. Composition works well with her to the left whilst the fence slopes slightly down to the right. It fills the picture in a pleasing way. Good work:thumbs:

Cheers Darren, thanks for popping by, I know what you mean about the dof, I didn't have time to change the settings, caitlin had already turned her cranky and tired setting upto high! Pleased you like it.

Hi Martin, thanks very much for popping by and your comments.

Hi Tina, thanks for the comments, nope, not much time at all and it was late in the evening as well, the light was awkward. I do want to redo this one at some point, but not sure when I will get chance, so maybe a reshoot week in the future.

I'm just in the process of working on my 2nd take for promise. Will hopefully get it posted soon.

I have thinking of how to photograph these items, these are from my wedding day back on October 14th 2006, Our day of promises. We had wooden flowers made as we really wanted to keep them, plus we were also travelling down to the Isles Of Scilly to get married too, so we couldn't be doing with fresh flowers, and they are very beautiful indeed. So here are a couple of versions I have done, hope you like them.

You mad fool! Doing one a week is hard enough, now you want to compete with Dawn?

I love the idea that you keep your wedding 'in full view' so to speak. #1 seems to have better colours, other than that I can't see what (if any) benefit the HDR process has made.

With regard to the composition I'm uncomfortable about the basket lid and the contents being such differing colours and textures. I feel the background detracts from the subject.

After saying all that I'm still trying to perfect my Promise shot

Hiya Michael,

Well done on doing another take for the Promise theme (take no notice of Tina :p).

I love the wooden flowers, the colours are beautiful, and have definitely served their purpose well.

I like how you have included some of the objects from the day, however it all looks a bit busy for me.

I agree with Tina about the background, and think this would have benefited from a plain neutral colour bg (perhaps a cream coloured sheet or something) ... both as base and background.

I too don't see how the HDR processing has done much to the image apart from fade the colours

Otherwise I like your thought process for the theme.

Cheers

Dawn :)
