weekly Michael23's 2012 52 COMPLETED! WooHoo! Slide show added

Alan,Peter and Allan, thanks very much four comments. I am still gradually going through the pics and editing them as I go along, it is a shame I didn't get the full red colour, hopefully next time I see them, I will succeed

Here are a couple more, converted in to b+w. I do like b+w pics of planes :D And I think these are best viewed on tp black theme or flickr with the black background.

oo very nice tho I like the colour one best

Hi Michael

Body - Lovely shots of the birds, I like the first pair of shots in alternative 1, the delicateness of them comes over very well

Liquid - Well... for me the one that jumps out first is number 2, great reflection and liking the ripples in the bottom of the water, and the people in the background - nice PP too

Re-Shoot - Straight.. I think it's a great image, the silhouetted tree line separating the sky and dark land is spot on and a good moody sky - like it !!!

Up - I have not had the pleasure to shoot the Red Arrows yet, I reckon it certainly isn't easy and like how you have caught them, colours caught well in the smoke and the composition is very effective

Blinking Pilots should of spaced out a bit better for you

Up, Up and Away.. spot on theme, shame about the silhouetting though, but nothing you could really do about that.

Much prefer that colour version, although the mono is good.

Thank you!

Yep, I prefer the colour version too. Although the white smoke, cloud and stripes on the aircraft are a little yellow, sort of dirty looking! Sorry, I'll shut up now!

 :D Thanks Marsha, I did notice that, it seemed to creep in a bit after I pushed the saturation.

Thanks Dean, when shooting the Reds, you kind of don't know where to look, I had the top burst mode on as I wasn't sure on my panning technique, it can be tough following them, I some how managed to pan and zoom at the same time, my buffer filled quite quickly though, wish I had a 7d now!

Up, Up and Away.. spot on theme, shame about the silhouetting though, but nothing you could really do about that.

Hi John, thanks for taking a look

I think I am going to go for the colour version for the official set.

DK you live on the east coast, visit RAF Scampton (ok only a few hours away) the little beggars are always flitting around;) especially from January onwards when they start pre season training!

I like the reds6 colour version but I think the version '8' has more impact, maybe just because of the angle.

Cheers

Hi Michael

Red 8 for me , tehe angle of the planes & the B&W works really well .....great capture & something I've gotta try one day

I also like the shot in post 844....looks a little strange in color...almost HDR'ish ?

Thanks Bob and Lynne. The colour does look a little hdr ish doesnt it, but this is just normal pp, I thought it looked a little odd, but it has grown on me.

Now, a visit to Wheelgate yesterday for my daughters birthday day out, as she was at school on her birthday. They also had a falconry display too. Real harsh light plus whites and any form of bird = exposure nightmare! But I got this one pretty much ok

Week 37, Duo by scilly puffin, on Flickr

Good separation between FG and BG. Owl is sharp but eye contact would
improve. Tad off right for me.

As for the theme, I guess there are two of them ;)

Cheers.

Ooo really... nice one thanks, i will do that:)

<EDIT> there again, just googled, between 3.5 and 4 hours away

I work closer though.. so do they publish when they train ?? as I could have the odd half day out on 'Site Visits' :suspect:

Or... how about Lakenheath, Mildenhall I can get to them in 10 mins

I'll find out their timings. I know in Cyprus they practiced three times a day, it gets REALLY boring after a while:bonk:

Sorry to hijack your thread Michael!

nice dof, nice subject, nicely exposed not sure about the crop missing his right arm and the bottom of the glove and the owl seems too central in the pic so the focus is on him. I think thats why it doesn't come across as duo.

Excellent detail, and DOF, but have to agree on the crop/composition... although I think losing a bit off the right will sort that out easily enough, and stop the lost arm being such an issue. Liking the way the handler is looking at the owl, draws you to it... just a shame about the owl not looking at you... still... that can't be helped.

hey great shot, I love the expression on the guy's face, he almost looks like he's not too sure, and you managed to expose the dark bird and the man's light shirt just right (which means I'd never manage it  )

THANKS :)

Yeah sorry Michael (I'm Sure he like the company anyway :geek:)

Thanks guys, in it goes to the final set

Now, onto flow, felt a little uninspired by this one for some reason.

I googled flow and read the wikipedia entry for it and its relation to psychology

This is form wikipedia

"Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity."

Here I have a picture from today, I think this fit's quite well for the above definition. Also it has water which flows in there too

Week 38, Flow by scilly puffin, on Flickr

ooo some colour, yay (see comments on others' thread lol)

now I really like that, esp like the way the sun has caught the bow

Thank you Summer, I did try a b+w with this, but just didn't work. Quite pleased with most of this picture.

Flow - works for me as in 'Go with the flow...'
Nicely composed shot and I like the colours - but a bit over exposed in places?? (maybe a spot of dodging required?)

Hi Mike, thanks for commenting, it is a little over in so,e places, it was quite bright. Now the dodging tool I have never used, I will have to have a look and see what it does.

2nd crop of Duo for me too Michael, much better. The Owl is much more prominent in the frame, and with the way the handler is looking at the owl... spot on

I really like it, I think it's a peaceful and tranquil image, framed nicely by the bridge (did you have to lurk for long ??) I'm not getting the flow from the wiki definition... sorry, that's probably just me, but the flow of the water, and the barge through the water, fits the theme well;).

Hi Michael

Duo - crop #2 for me as well. Good detail and colour. Like the composition as even tho the two are not looking directly at each other, there is a definite connection in the shot.

Flow - spot on theme with the water flow and the barge flowing into the bridge. Like it a lot. As commented, bit bright in places, b/g and brick arch at left.

Thanks John, the crop of the owl and handler has worked really well.
With the canal boat I didn't have to wait to long, it's a very busy stretch of canal and my timing was just right.

Flow - right on the theme and, as mentioned, the sun has caught the front of the barge to give a nice reflection in the water.

Hi, Michael, Flow is well composed and great colours. Reflections add another interest.

Good eye contact, apart from the lady of the boat.

Cheers.

That's a really pleasant English scene along the canal side. The exposure has been well handled even under the bridge which for me acts as a great frame.

Hi Michael

lovely very british image for Flow, makes me feel relaxed just looking at it.....what a wondful way to spend a sunny afternoon:) Crit's been mentioned by others namely the slightly blown bits but like the framing & ripples in the water which fit with the theme as well:thumbs:
