mich66 - my 52 (week 22 - catching up slowly)

thanks everyone.. was scratching my head over this theme!

Hope no-one saw you on yours hands and knees photographing weeds...haha

It was in my garden, made sure the neighbours were out of sight :)

It's beautiful...and probably very hurt that everyone thinks it is a weed and not a wildflower ;) ....

one of my flickr contacts informed me its a shepherd's purse.. looks like a weed to me.. is pretty though :)

Ahh - that is a lovely image, and not the usual spring shoot. The narrow DOF seems spot on for my taste. I like the simple, limited colours, and believe it would look even better if you crop off the pale line at the top, which is a bit distracting.

Hairy bittercress - you can eat this, you know. A little added to a salad gives a nice peppery zing, and it has bags of vitamin C....

our posts crossed.. took this with my 35mm lens on f/1.8.. thats interesting on the name, was told another one.. either way, dont think i'd fancy eating one from my garden... far too many cats ;)

I like the narrow dof on this shot as others have mentioned - nice work!

Phil

That's lovely Mich . . . and those aren't words I thought I'd ever say about a weed.
I came so close to doing the same thing this week and then that "nah! that's just an ugly weed." How wrong I was.

If I had one niggle it's that I would have liked just a tiny bit more DoF, but that really is nit picking. I like this a lot.

I likey! For me the really tiny dof helps to almost sqeeeeeeeeze the weed into the shot.

The thin DOF isolates the subject well and good use of dead space on the right hand side.

thanks all.. am rather addicted to using my 35mm at f/1.8 at the moment.. its not good on the knees in these situations though :)

week 15 - single

single track railway, llangollen..

think the texture will split decisions.. I like it though ;)

Shoot - Great idea and well put together, maybe just a tad too much to the left but fits the theme perfectly.

Single - Love this shot and on theme too, as to the processing I don't think it adds to the shot but I don't think it takes anything away so .

thanks all..

like single - but not the texture .. makes me want to clean the edges !

know what you mean.. I like the aged look to it.. this is the original for comparision, its fine but is just another train pic to me.. think the texture adds interest.. know it wont appeal to all :)

I like your train image Michelle, I also like the texture but think it may be more in keeping with a B&W image to really give it an aged and old time feel? The composition works well too, being able to see where the train has come from leads one's eye into the image. Well done Iain

its fine but is just another train pic to me.. think the texture adds interest.. know it wont appeal to all :)

I completely agree.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the original. It's a perfectly clear, crisp train shot - but the PP makes it into something else entirely.

I like it a lot.
Very well composed, some very strong lines with the tracks and line of trees. And the desaturated colours and the texture elevate it into something even more special for me.

I personally prefer the shot with the added texture. I think I'd also quite like to see the shot in B&W

Textured shot for me too. Don't get me wrong the original is spot on, clean, crisp and excellent use of avaliable light but the PP just adds that little 'something' that really appeals to me.

Not been on your thread for a few weeks and I seem to have missed a couple of good weeks for you.

The shoot is great, good DOF and nice simple subject and lighting.

Single is great, I struggled with it this week to do something different and your pic is great, and for me it's the first shot every time. As someone mentioned the shot on it's own is just another railway shot but the PP really, really makes it.

Great PP and nice shot...

thanks for comments all.. knew the texture wouldn't be everyones cup of tea.. did try it in B+W but the sky and top of the hills became a bit 'blah' and washed out on it.. that might be my P+P skills though :)

"Catchup time": I'm overusing this phrase this week...

Produce: Love the pepper. Nice composition, sharpness and I like the way the seeds all stand out. Vibrant!

Reshoot: Wow. That's a great shot. The way you've captured the detail in the bricks is excellent! That's a stunning shot.

Shoot: Really like the DoF on this and the composition is very very good. poor weed :(

Single: The train shot is a good one. Just another train shot? I don't think so with another strong composition. The PP is a little over-cooked for my tastes. If that vignetting/smoking feel is on a layer, try reigning it in a bit with the opacity to see if that improves things.

Nice work though. Think the curves reshoot is the best. By far. Very strong image.

Ian.

Love your Single shot Michelle, give me a shout next time you're in North Wales :) I personally like the textured shot best because of the atmosphere it gives, Ian could possibly be right about toning it down a little....but then I always do about 4 different versions of images because I can never make my mind up

Great train shot and I love the PP, which makes it something special!:clap: I feel as if I am looking through the grimy window of another engine....on a collision course  :D

Single, it's a very good image, and well shot. It fits the theme well... The textured edge does work, but again, I think it would be more in keeping with either a mono, or a sepia tint style.

thanks for comments everyone.. sorry i've fallen a little behind.. work and life have been getting in the way :(

been trying to get the cats to play ball for this theme but they weren't having it so its an old shot revisited and re worked for this..

Michelle, what did you do to the cow  ?? It sure is staring at you... well caught.

That's a lovely shot Michelle. The lighting is very well done. Almost looks like fill in flash was used. Even putting the cow in the centre of the frame has worked well.

Hope work and life ease off a bit for you so you can get out more with your camera!

Ian.

thanks all.. this was a strange weather day in ireland (as usual) the sun came out after a heavy storm giving wonderful light.. this cow watched me taking photos for ages, so inquisitive and gentle, let me get right up close to it :)

the sky was flat grey on this one so added a new one from another shot taken at the same time.. why is the sky always more interesting everywhere else other than where you want it to be? :)

i'll catch up on everyone's pics once i've done the peace shot ;)

Hi Mich.

Glad you're still hanging in there - it's a pain when life gets in the way of what you want to do.

Absolutely seamless PP in this one. I would never have guessed that you'd added the sky in.
And that cow is definitely staring!
 Works for me. Good composition and the textures in the cow's coat / brickwork have come out really well.

Stare is intruiging the cow certainly is certainly interested in what you are doing. The gloomy sky in the background and the wall in the foreground work well to give some depth to the shot, but I feel the subject is too central, but no big thing.

Peace great shot of the cat doing what cats do best, sleep. The message on the cushion is so true.

thanks steve.. was in two minds about the cow being central.. always place things on the third if possible but thought it worked on this.. looked better gave more of the 'cow assassin' feel to it ;)

this cat can sleep! had to get that cushion when I saw it.. so true :D

Stare - good portrait of the cow, and I would never have guessed that the sky wasn't original. The central positioning works fine for me. Lovely expression - do you think it is feeling a bit embarrassed about its 'earrings'?

Peace - wonderful composition, colours and lighting. Purrfect!

Some lovely images in this series Michelle.

Nice work.

Ian.

Single;
I think the PP fits really very well as it makes the shot look as if it was taken when the train was in use. It also gives the impression that I am looking at a picture of a picture - kind of as if you have taken a photo of an old postcard.

So it is does not come across as PP for the sake of it or for 'tarting up' a photo, it is PP that changes the image in a very suitable way. Really well done.

thanks for your comments everyone.. very kind :)

phew, on time this week!

indulgence..

not very inspired, but tastes good ;)

Lovely DoF which really brings out the texture at your point of focus. It's also nicely lit. Could be a product shot in any food magazine.

If there was any critique, I'd just like a little more space around the cake. It's a tight crop and whilst the composition is good, I'd just like a bit more space in the frame.

Ian.
