mich66 - my 52 (week 22 - catching up slowly)

I like your composition and lighting for mechanical but I love the processing work. Great stuff.

Great shot- composition, lighting and processing are spot on and interesting to see the before and after :)

thanks everyone.. :)

dont know where this week went.. got to sunday and still hadn't done my shot.. tried something earlier with my daughter playing instruments with the intention of merging them but it looks garbage.. so am posting this taken last week of my grandson.. sorry its not new but think it fits the theme perfectly..

Perfect for the theme indeed. It's nice and sharp and well lit and you've caught a good expression on his face. Nicely done.

Well, I don't agree that it's nice and sharp, but the expression is a cracker.

Excellent piccie, well caught, love the whole feel of that - sort of ozzes enjoyment. I like the softness actually, it works for me in this instance but the colour balance is a bit scary?

Arthur

thanks guys..

should have added that there is a vintage action on this to give the soft haze and colour.. :)

really miffed my intended shot didnt work but never mind.. all part of the fun I guess ;)

Nice one Michelle, lovely candid shot with just the right processing.

Bang on theme Michelle, and it's a well taken portrait, but the overall softness pulls the punch a bit for me.

Was it a Photoshop action? If it was, it might be worth finding the blur layer and gently erasing it with a mask around the eyes and face.

Ian.

thanks.. its an elements action.. I did erase some of the haze layer from it.. used the vintage action as it was a bit soft to start with as used my 35mm lens with the aperture on 2.8, was a grab and shoot moment, tom doesn't like posing so had to go with it.. kind of like the softness personally :)

I still think it looks sharp round the eyes and mouth where it matters. Not sure what everyone is seeing that I'm not :D (goes off to find better glasses).

Bang on theme, lovely expression and well lit

Sorry I've got behind - again! :)

Mechanical: This really appeals to me. I love the composition, the gritty oiliness of it (very atmospheric) and the pp is just perfect for the shot.

Play: Awww - he's soooo cute and looks to be having the time of his life. I don't think the slight softness is a problem in this - the message in the shot is loud and clear :) - but I think it would be a cracker in black and white.

btw - has he got an agent yet? :D

Jean

Hi Michelle. Love the mechanical shot:clap::thumbs: The earthy / rusty look works brilliantly! Play is a really nice capture, if a tiny bit soft. Looks like he is bashing away at a honky tonk blues song:D

Cheers, Rob

Spot on, fits the theme on more than one level, nice and sharp and great look on her face.

thanks all.. didnt think the PP would be everyones cup of tea, been good to hear opinions on it..

no idea what i'm going to do for chemistry!

Aww - that is a gorgeous shot. Well done - I know just how difficult it is to catch small children. Composition and pose both excellent, and I think it is sharp enough for this kind of subject.

:clap::clap:

Play - that's a lovely photo - he certainly looks like he is enjoying himself

Chemistry - like the reflections and colours

A nice sharp, well lit and vibrant image, gets my:thumbs:

Play - I adore the expression on your grandson's face and the positioning of his fingers. Having read through the comments, I am now aware of the sharpness and light balance issues etc but the thing is: I didn't even notice them until I read about them because I think it's such a smashing shot that it overrides any technical considerations.

Chemistry - Nice and sharp and colourful, with nice hints of bottle reflection in the puddles of colour.

Lovely idea for Chemistry. Clean, sharp and colourful. Your lighting is fantastic and the reflections work very well. Great job

LOVE IT. Pin sharp, lighting is spot on and the colours ....... they scream, bet it has even more impact full size.

Cracking colours and really sharp Michelle. The little blue drops in the purple is a great touch as well. Nice one:thumbs:

Cheers, Rob

Nicely done Michelle.. that's worked really well... Strong colours and the reflections add to it

thanks for the comments all.. the background looks ok on here but murky on flickr, toned it down as it looked too dazzling here and now its bugging me on flickr.. doh! :cuckoo:

I just hate it when you get one of those shots that looks so different depending where you're displaying it.

And from what I can see on here the background is spot on
I love the bright colours and the reflections are very effective.
I'm not quite sure that you need the brushes in the shot though. I think I would have preferred it with just the bottles.

There are some very subtle little touches in this- like the tiny spot of blue under the pink brush and the way the blue bottle is lying in pink paint, and the symbolism of pink and blue.

Very well thought out and well executed and the background looks fine on my monitor.

Big  from me.

Jean

I absolutely love Chemistry, clean vibrant and kind of makes you feel alive.#

Candid - still not sure good shot but I love colour:shrug: this makes me feel old :lol:

Chemistry is a great shot well thought out and set up, good lighting, colours and clarity.

Candid, the processing and content give this a feel of a very old photo. I think you could have got away with slightly tighter framing in this shot, but it works well as it is.

I like this, as it is because there's lots going on and it's got that charity shop look about it (I hope I haven't put my foot in it and it's actually a trendy little shop with lots of 'pieces'). The processing really enhances the mood of the scene. :)

I agree a tighter frame would give it a little more oomph, and there's a nice little detail - the shopper is wearing fur and checks, just like the model to the right! ;)

Jean

Love your chemistry shot... I think it'd make a great Flickr icon for you given the colours. :)
