meteors showers tonight and tomorrow night

Nice trails Hollis. If you want to get rid of the planes in the subs, paint over them in black on the individual frames before running them through startrails, it works great.

In terms of capturing meteors, 30seconds is probably enough, they are very short lived. Just take loads of them. This has the benefit you can put the camera into continuos shooting mode and with a reomte lock, just keep firing away

how do you set the camera to do longer exposures.
i can only seem to set it to a maximum of 30 seconds.

Put your camera into M manual and roll the exposure wheel till it says bulb then click the button and hold, and you will see it counting release to close the shutter, better using a cable

anyone got any picts yet? all i have is clouds!

Ill go out again later but at the moment im its all clouds.

I'm down in S.W. France, awesome display here, skies are clear, might try some shots, but I don't know what I'm doing taking night shots of meteors :help:

you lucky person get out there and do some test shots :thumbs:shoot in manual on bulb, iso 100, upwards of 30 sec exposures F 8 or 11

really clear over here in the west...10 miles east of glasgow.

any particular direction I should be looking ?

A colleague told me last night 4 ladies were laying in her back garden drinking wine spotting meteors d going 'there's one', this was 10 - 11 in Somerset ...I sat out for an hour in Oxon and saw nowt...and tonight it is cloudy... damn!!!

.. and if you've got a remote release, set the camera to burst mode, lock the release button down an let it shoot for as long as you want :) Maximise the chances of catching one and you could also use them for a startrails shot.

Try going to manual focus, go to infinity and nudge it back in slightly, then just check by eye to see how sharp it looks.

just seen one but sadly I didnt catch it on camera

Now why didn't I think of that? I know, I'll blame 3.5 hours sleep last night and staying awake now trying to blow the clouds away.

Thanks.

Nicky Horne on Planet Rock is even asking for info on the shower...:)

Thanks all, but no luck yet, looks like it might be fizzling out, when is it due to stop.

thanks i had it in manual and tried it in bulb mode but didn't realise you had to keep the shutter button pressed in.:bonk:

Lovely clear sky (light-pollution aside) here in Spain; lots of meteors, none of which managed to cross my camera's field of view. Some reasonable star trails though.
