meteors showers tonight and tomorrow night

was misty last night, about 50m visibility

when it's clear though, it's great - no light pollution, hopefully catch one over the next few days :)

I'll have to try again tonight when in work to see if we have a clear sky. Another problem though is there is a huge Aldi centre which pretty much covers the area in Light pollution.
 
Forgot all about it, I was out at the airport 11.30pm waiting for daughter and never gave it a thought. Old age setting in :bonk: Must remember tonight and take supplies. :popcorn:
 
Hopefully looking good for tonight, providing light pollution and the moon rising don't interfere too much...
 
Well, I've looked outside in 10 minutes bursts whenever I woke up during the night last night and have spent 20 minutes sat down on the east-facing back door step at around 4.30 am (I usually get up for work at 4 am during the summer) and saw . . .

. . . nothing, even though it was an absolutely clear and starry night. :bang:

Probably would enhances my chances no end if I got myself right out into the middle of the countryside away from all that urban light pollution (it is bad where I live, and I'll take photos and show them in here to prove my point) and that moon was bright which can't have helped.

Airport will probably have too much light pollution to be honest to see much.
 
I'm a 40min drive from Stonehenge so might try incorporating that into some long exposure shots...mind you though I won't want my kit being nicked by a bunch of hippies!
 
Which direction should you be looking at in the sky (and no 'up' replies :p)
 
I would say up but they recon on the beeb website towards Capella.

I was looking to the right of the W of Cassie last night, that's where most of them were.
 
Well I spent the best part of 2 hours out last night and saw about 4, 1 of which was a 'wow.' Never managed to get 1 in shot though, if only we could somehow find out where in the sky they would appear from...

On another note, in the photos I did take I've got a bad purple vignette but only in the top left and right of the frame, is this likely to be from the sensor getting hot?
 
Im off out tonight, a few clouds around here but a few breaks every now again...

Rob, it might be amp glow. The older canon's get it down the left hand side. They all come from the constellation of Perseus. Aim with a wide angle to the right of Cassieopeia (the W) and place cassis in the lower left of the frame. I got 4 in shot last night ok only the dim ones but that's where I was aiming.
 
Looking a bit better here ohhh might get involved if I can stay up long enough!!!!

Set camera up to do 30s exposures from midnight to 2am. No clouds, but the Moon was a b****r. Only caught one meteor, and it wasn't a Perseid (direction was wrong). Saw a couple of real bright ones, but they were all too close to the Moon, away from where the camera was pointing.

ok people if I cant get a good sky shot would it help if I put a Nd grad filter on getting some of the light polution out for longer?

hey hollis how long was the exposure for the star trail photo? also what settings did you use? iso shutter speed etc ?

not sure about the canon range but on the nikons its called the bulb mode and it would come after that. sorry its not very accurate, good luck

Keep going and you should get to "BULB" where you have to control the time yourself.
