Meeting your heroes

Brian Cox bet he would be great !

Also Arthur C Clark and Issac Assimov....but they is dead

I've met Brian Johnson a couple of times. All I can say is you could never wish to meet a nicer, funnier and down to earth bloke.

My son works in the entertainment industry. Going from what he says it appears the real stars are generally nice people, its those that have not quite made it that seem to have poor attitude.

I met Dean Koontz once in Laguna Niguel.
Couldn't wish to meet a nicer fella,(and his wife, and pooch).
Happy to talk for ages about his books, and writing in general.

And my favourite meet ever, Robin Williams. Not in the least bit disappointing....far from it. Still sad he's gone :(

I've met a number of mine, and never been disappointed.
Most have been from an older generation and sporting background but not one who I've admired has disappointed.

Most of mine have been sports people but the most remarkable was a ww2 flight sergeant who crashed in northern France. He had tears in his eyes as he related his experience of the bravery of the French families who helped him escape. Of course didn't mention his own brave exploit s. A proper hero.

Iv'e met lots of comedians, your Mock The Week panel show types from photographing their performances, and so far they've all been a delight. Their agents on the other hand can be problematic.
Ed Byrne stands out as being a friendly and personable type, given the amount of people he must be introduced to. We were chatting just before his performance, making sure he was happy with what I wanted to do (Complemented me on the size of my lens!)
He asked me where I would be in the first 5 minutes so he could give me a couple of shots._DSC7204-Edit-2.jpg _DSC7224-Edit-2-2.jpg

I was lucky enough to meet Terry Pratchett a few times and he was always happy to chat to anybody who wanted to talk to him, even when Alzheimer's was taking its toll. Absolute gentleman, witty, very intelligent, and completely down to earth with no airs and graces.

I met Lee Selby today. Not a hero of mine but a top bloke all the same.

Joe Simpson & Brian Blessed, both on mountaineering talks in Manchester.
Great, approachable guys!

Unfortunately Hypatia died 1600 years ago, so I haven't met her.

I met Colin McRae a couple of times, not that personable, though his friends speak highly.

The Hairy Bikers at a book signing were disappointingly pompous.

Met quite a lot of people, most seem decent.

Was having breakfast next to Micaela Strachen in Derby, she was happy to chat about what work she was currently filming.
Met Michael Schumacher in Florida, downtown Disney in 2005, he'd come out the Blues club to buy a huge cigar from the shop opposite which is where we were. I looked up from browsing and there he was. Asked if my son could have a photo with him but he politely declined as he didn't want to draw attention to himself. Seems reasonably I said, he shook my hand and I wished him well for the forthcoming US grandprix. He won that with 6 cars taking place.

Eddie Irvine was funny, a maverick, Rubens Barachello amazingly polite, informative and a mischevious streak as he as trying to teach me porteguese phrases for his then formula 3 room mate we'd come to watch on a test day. Jordon were testing on the south circuit at Silverstone. Met quite a few F1 drivers when we sponsored Marussia for two years and I've managed to remember to remind Rubans a couple of times that 'his granny could drive faster than that'.

Away from the circuit, most drivers are decent people, but tend to be very focussed on race weekends.

As someone who's been doing the same work for 15yrs, I totally agree. The more famous they are, the nicer they are. In almost all situations.

I have to disagree. I met Jon Pertwee once. Totally obnoxious man, full of "don't you know who I am?" attitude.

Hardly global superstar status.

Around 2009 I met Alex Higgins in a professional manner and I stretched out my hand to shake his and he totally ignored me.........embarrassing.

I meet Joe a few times when I lived in Sheffield. I thought him straight forward but abrasive

I may have a chance to meet another hero of mine tomorrow, fingers crossed, Dame Ellen MacArthur. I met Tracey Edwards at a similar event last year and she was great, really interesting and seemed truly flattered I knew who she was.

Met another one today! Well two actually, the Brownlee Brothers.
They were filming in Burnsall and they were in the Wharfe View café while we were having lunch.
Film crew were in a Boardman van with all the camera stuff and were flying a drone while they rode away on their bikes.
I have a couple of photos to sort out,

I do know what you mean, he is the first to admit he's hard to get on with and the 'abrasive' label has been hung on him before.
I found him ok though, even the second time on the launch of The Beckoning Silence in 2002.

Lets see,
Sterling Moss, competed against him in car trials and consistently whipped his arse, nice guy.
Sid James, Larger than life, a really nice guy.
Oh and I dropped my trousers in front of Hank Marvin, some years ago, ( long story) I'm just glad his mate Cliff wasn't with him TBH :D

edit, just so we are clear I can't stand the guy

Is he related to Stirling? I've met him a couple of times at race events.
