medical trials

Don't encourage her!
Why not? she seems like a sensible lass :p

I am thinking the same but at the moment £1000 would be worth the trade.
Just be very cautious, and ask loads of questions until you are satisfied that
the "risk" is absolutely minimal.
No one can make your mind up for you, just offer advice ;)

Do you have any knowledge of what they are testing for?

I was involved in the clinical trials of Viagra.

Didn't swallow one quick enough and I was left with a stiff neck for a week.

Pulmonary = lungs, you've only got 1 pair and you need them!

Do you have any knowledge of what they are testing for?

As per gramps going on the info that you posted

The drug that we are studying is for the treatment ofCOPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

It will be a new drug not yet on the market.
The clinical trials are pretty much the last stage, before they get approval (or not)
to sell it on the open market (well to doctors / pharmacists anyway)
And again as per Gramps you are fit and enjoy your sport, would you really risk (however minimal) the possibillty
of losing that?
I'm not anti, just playing devils advocate ;)

This is just asking for a cartoon to be drawn by me. :D :naughty:

The EMail says that it's a drug to treat Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease i.e. emphysema or related lung conditions (as Gramps said)

My mother in law died from emphysema 6 years ago and it's a particularly nasty illness. While she was ill she took a number of different drugs including steroids, inhalers and a cocktail of other drugs to combat the side effects of what she was taking for the emphysema.
How the drug being tested actually works for emphysema sufferers and what effect it may have on the lungs is one of the things I would want to ask about if I was considering this.

As others have said, it's your decision, but make sure you go into it with your eyes open and knowing what the potential risks are.

I didnt know pulmonary was to do with lungs... As u all should know by now im a bit of a thick sh#t

don't forget if its a paid trial that involves a stay in a unit (as your email) then it will most likely be at a very early stage in understanding how it reacts/treats humans.

So for example they may have some very tight theories about how it works and wish to prove it
or it may be testing purely what effect your body has on the drug, how long it remains in your system
or it maybe testing pure drug safety - one of the things I used to do alot of was what were called 'definitive' safety trials. Checking intensively for any heart or liver effects for example.

Im really sorry to hear that.

I will defo be having a good long hard think before i make any decision.

They'd have to pay me a sight more than a grand - that's about a wedding and a quarter , or 2 days of tree surgery.

Unless you owe the money to the mob and need to find it now or else, then i'd really think again about the risk vs benefit

Make sure that you do.
As I said the "approved" drugs that she was taking had some pretty nasty long term side effects, so if it's a drug at an early stage in its development the potential side effects for humans may well be relatively unknown at this stage.

On a lighter note, I don't suppose you've ever read Stephen King's Firestarter? . . . now there's some interesting side effects for you

That's really put me off now knowing that so thanks for the heads up you may have just saved me some side effects... Or lost me 1000 quid :-P lol.

Im going to lie and say yes iv read it lol.

;) but weigh it up - you get £1k, but you have to make 4 trips Birmingham to London, as well as stay 4 days in that unit. So you have travel costs to knock off.So thats going to be what £150 train tickets?

I know the money would be helpful, but even so..........

Lol im glad i amuse you Pete :-D

Oh as for the accountancy, im meeting with someone from a college at the job centre on the 30th.

isnt 23 a little young for a midlife crisis

i know its a lot of cash and times are hard all round for us all at the mo but they dont pay that kind of cash for nothing. Most of the times its a blind trial you dont know if your taking the drug or not. Alot of the times you dont know what the affects of the drug they are testing are supposed to be. And if it did go tits up its your wife and kids who are left to care for you. thb i dont think its worth it not for a grand.

I wasn't referring to your spelling and punctuation though...... :D

He missed that totally didn't he?
Thats a new keyboard you owe me BTW :D
