I have friends getting married in October and chances are I'll be a guest and not the tog on the day... I was really looking forward to it until the invite said "let us know any dietary requirements, please note meat in not an option". They are proper hardcore veggies so meat is completely banned from the wedding, how fun eh?! With my lactose intolerance and soy allergy it's going to make for an interesting meal :D

Anyone here been a guest at a wedding since turning pro and just thought 'hmm that sucks' when finding out details of the big day?

Oh and the invite was a text message lol!

Just be grateful they're not vegan. We had a gig once where 120 guests sat down to a wedding breakfast that was pure vegan right from the pumpkin soup through to the ersatz coffee. The toastmaster actually sent out for a pizza once they'd sat down, and there was major unrest in the kitchens when the waiting staff discovered what they were going to be eating before they went home. IIRC that problem was solved by a high-speed McDonalds run.

Haha ooh yeah I think I'll count my blessings they are just die hard veggies :D

I think I would have a couple of sausage rolls in one pocket, a chicken sandwich in the other, and sneak out during the dinner to eat them.

"dear xyz

Thanks awfully for inviting me to your wedding , however i'm afraid I have dietary requirements that make most vegetarian food impractical, therefore I will need to bring my own meat based food with me"

If they are good freinds they'll understand - if they aren't why waste your time going to their wedding anyway

Buy two meat & potato pasties and two cheese & onion pasties. Take the cheese & onion pasties out of their wrappers and throw them away. Put the meat & potato ones in the cheese & onion wrappers and smuggle them past the guards taking great care to maintain an air of innocence at all times. Obviously, you'll have to eat them cold but that's the price you pay for being devious and sneaky.

Why not wait until you see what the menu is, or ask to see it as you are 'fussy' ;). (Imagine how fun you are being lactose and Soy intolerant)

I've been places like asia I've never eaten meat until I've come home and it hasn't been an issue, whereas in the US, at times finding vegetables on a plate of meat (that isn't potato based) can also be hard. Caesar salads get boring after a while.

Vegetable curry or Stir fry without the soy sauce, could go thai and use a tamarind based sauce, (palm sugar, tamarind paste, fish sauce, dash of white wine vinegar.)

Wear a think tank belt and fill a 70-200 pouch with pork pies!

Blooming veggies. Tis the height of decadence. There's people in this world starving and yet there's some that opt to cut out entire food groups from their diet. Tis not right!

This is a good idea but I would suggest a slight deviation.

Take the insides of the cheese and onion pasty out. Eat this in the morning. Then fill the empty pasty shell with the insides from the steak one. Then place it into the cheese and onion pasty wrapper

I did a wedding back in October and the couple were vegan. All food was vegetarian despite a lot of the guests being meat eaters (me included), and vegan for the couple.

Some of the nicest wedding food I've had, and ended up going to the restaurant which did the catering for it a few weeks later.

Demand a steak.

In fact demand they ensure all prep surfaces and cooking utensils have not been contaminated with shrubbery.

Just turn up with Mcdonalds. Most people reckon its not meat anyway:woot:

Or tell them that you have ulcerative colitis and after having a flare up you need to avoid fibre for a while or you may not be able to stop the outpouring of er "emotion"

We did a Vegan wedding few years back.... It was stranger than strange... couple looked white with blue veins in the skin I thought they were Vampyres when first we met....

They asked hotel for Vegan wine.. Yep, me too, Grapes crushed under dirty Paws.... nope vegan wine is special.

''Non-vegetarian/vegan additives[edit] Wineries might use animal-derived products as finings. To remove proteins, yeast, and other organic particles which are in suspension during the making of the wine, a fining agent is added to the top of the vat.''

Also the staffs wonder why they had 5 empty place setting. dinner was late as hotel was waiting for them to turn up... turns out places were for dead people..... Yep the Ghost Christmas past!

so now on website I say my heroes are Oil tycoons and Henry the VIII as he made love to everything and plundered our forest resources to make battle ships that had trouble staying upright.... 600 Oak trees per ship to build this imperial Nation.

....also wear leather trousers and a T-shirt 'I love Fracking!!!!!' Can't beat a good fracking!!!!!!

I can also see the other side of the story though, remember that the couple have forked out all the money to put actual food on the table ;)

Andy, bite you tongue, try not to give their photographer tips, and try not to feel the need to slap them if the photos turn out to be rubbish and they say they wished that they picked you!

I'm mostly a carnivore but would be perfectly happy to be invited to a vegan-catered wedding.
I'm sure the food will be tasty, and there's free booze ... and bridesmaids.

Go and enjoy.

Have a rib of beef the next day to balance things out.

I'm not sure you read the OP properly, thats the point. They are putting vegetation on the table not food at all ;)

Many of the fining ingredients used for making wine (and beer for that matter) are
decidedly non-vegan.

Fill out the dietary requirements.. it's then their problem ;) - and I doubt you'll be the only one that gives them pause for thought, add in someone with a nut allergy and someone else who's a coeliac and they'll need to get
imaginative when it comes to alternatives..

But a wedding invite by text? - oh dear.. ..

Freaks, its just not right, I cant believe it, not only are they mental, but they force their views on others.

Its like saying oh its a homosexual wedding so no hetrosexual couples are welcome.

Just because you dont eat meat doesnt mean your guests shouldnt. I wouldnt dream of saying veggie is not an option.

I go quite a few days a week without eating meat, so personally I don't see it as a big deal. It's like, 1 meal, maybe 2?

I'm sure if you tell them your requirements they'll get something tasty for you.

It's mainly just the fact it's being forced on people tbh, just seems a bit naff. I wouldn't say 'no veggie option' at my own wedding, people are there to have a good time so let them eat what they want IMO. I too go without meat some meals every week so I don't have an issue with eating a veggie meal sometimes, I just like to have the choice :)

if my wife serves me a meal with no meat on the plate I just sit there staring at her silently until she realises the error of her ways and corrects it.
Marrying someone that can't cook? ;)

Totally your choice dude! It's your wedding, you can do what you like! I guess if they were vegetarian because of things like this:

Then sitting down and being surrounded by plates of dead battery chickens probably wouldn't be a great experience for them.

Anyway - hope it goes well! :)

There's always local Fillet steak!
