I don't really get a lot of his work.
I'm a very technical must get everything perfect photographer. I have to get the best from a scene. What he does is very odd, and I don't understand it.

not being offensive Pete i dont think you'll really get it, you may understand it eventually, i'm not saying i'm clever anything so pompous but i spent some time looking at his work there is a lot of irony & humour in his work. Thers an instict, a feel, a look that comes across.
Only way i can expain it using your own work, you see a scene, a building you try to take a perfect shot, right lens, correct apeture, DOF, straight edges, horizons, looking for symmetry & pleasing asthetics. You then take that shot take out imperfections, technically enhance image usually HDR to best of your ability, you look try to feel the perfect shot with enhancements. Nothing wrong with that as i do admire your work.
The opposite end of scale would be Urban photographers who take old buildings, derelict sites, concrete slabs and find beauty in the chaos, the mess and doesn't care if shot is perfect in focus, dark etc it would be a feel an instict to make those kinds of shots look good.
