markelliot's 52. W44 Pair. Re Edited! W45 Safety Added... W38 Fun Added!

Oh thats a fantastic shot, getting a soaking was well worth it, well done

Mark, I love this shot and had similar thoughts myself. My one bit of feedback would be maybe to tone down the hand (dodge and burn I think, still learning how to use elements!) anyway, the hand is quite bright, so maybe tone down the hand so the exploding liquid is emphasised more. Just looking at it, as I am scrolling up and down, maybe a bit of a crop of the bottom quarter of the image as well???

I have deliberately not entered too much into the world of PP... and intend to keep it that way... I only use canons DPP as I dont want to do stuff I could not have done in a dark room... I learnt my photography using film! Now I know with a card in a darkroom you could burn in a section of an image... but I like to keep my PP simple and take the shot as it came out the camera basically... I guess I could have used a graduated filter... but I'm not going to bother with a reshoot... The juice is to expensive... maybe if I just toned down the overall brightness... but nah... Just looked again and im leaving it...

I spent ages turning it slightly and cropping and I preffered this image as with everything else I felt I was either loosing a part of the image I liked!

Hi ,
what a great take on the theme:clap:
I think it looks great as it is ,possibly just a tad less bright on the hand but a really good shot ,well done

I'm still  'bout mine...

Fantastic shot! Well done. I wouldn't even know where to start doing something ike that. How many goes did you have before you got this one?

I didn't know where to start either... I just went for it applying basic togging logic... Never be afraid to try something

I had two goes before this shot... And the problem was not enough fizz explosion... Nothing wrong with the actual shots... I worked out the focus and exposure without the fizz! So this was shot 3!

That's a brilliant shot and a fantastic idea for this theme. Well done.

Wish I'd thought of that

Thanks... Thats quite a compliment! I knew it was a good idea but thought it obvious so i wanted to shoot it early so noone stole my shots thunder with their own version

Thats a great shot for the theme and well captured, nice one :)

Thanks!!! I cant believe I've got such a long wait now till the next theme is anounced... Im really loving this whole 52 experiance! I'm quite bust next weekend though so it was good to get this one in early... and might leave the next weeks to the last min!

Good luck to the rest of you this week still to tackle OPEN!!!

Ah, that will teach you for being teacher's pet

I like the style pic, it drags all sides of the subject together.

Love the pop bottle, hope there was not too much mess :naughty:

^ I guess it does! Thanks for yor feedback... Im glad you like my last two shots!

I....am....so.....miffed...:'(

Just discussing this idea with my wife and we were set up to get in the garden early Saturday morning to get the same shot, except I was going
to open a bottle of Stella with a bottle opener...

Anyway, well exposed, composed and the shutter speed was spot on, for me. Great, uncluttered background as well.

Great shot, great idea and good use of the shower to save the mess.

Love it

Simon.

Nice week 4 shot!
The only thing I would of done is tried to open the lid a little so that the pop started spraying out but then moved my hand away completely so that it wasn't in the shot...

but like i say great shot and idea!

Cool photo mate. Did you not have any mentos?

No I never... I've done that before and I felt the fiz would be enough... I'm thinking juice on the ceiling and walls outwith the tiled area of the shower and all over my camera would not have been good.

Someone else has done a beer bottle on here too ... Sorry to rain on your parade... Im not sure it would work so well lighting wise outside... but i'd still go for it... your shot will still be your shot!

Thanks mate...

excellent week 4 photo, love it! cant fault it.

Thankyou!

I've got shots like that... as I took a fair few both before and after this instant as I took my hand away... but none of them are as dramatic as the one where it was just opened... and I preferred the hand in...

I sorta know what you mean as that's what I was going for originally... but this shot stuck out when I looked at them after!

Also no way im reshooting as the set up was timeconsuming and i'd need more juice and still got 3 bottles to drink from sat! Im not even a huge fan of fanta but thought it was the best colour for the shot with a black background!

Mark

Great pic, i thought of doing something similar however thought it was out of my capabilities. Everything about it is great.

Dont ever let me catch you talking such rubbish again! This pic has taught me one thing above all... Nothing is outwith your capabilities... It may take a bit of practice... I think this shot was a bit of basic theory for me and a bit of beginers luck if im honest... as ive never done indoor product/ flash/ studio work... And ive not got the best kit for it but but but... Still try! I guess the only thing that can hold u back is equipment... Ie wanting to try macro but not having a macro lens or extention tubes... But youll never improve greatly in this life unless you step out yoir comfort zone

Thanks! That's my aim to keep it up... I'm having great fun at it for the moment... I thrive on the weekly challenge

good capture Mark, though maybe too quick, perhaps more spray :naughty: Good use of a deep black as backdrop. Guess pop isn't like champers or the like in that you can wait for the cork to pop and not capture your hand.

All the same, maybe there was an opportunity for comedy, opening it against ** leg and soaking yourself in the process :D

Hi guys...
I got my wife to actually press the cable release whilst I got soaked in fanta opening the bottle...

So in a way I never actually took the shot... but I set it up... set the exposure... manually focused the shot etc etc... so it's my work!

to quote from Max Headroom.. "I only build the bomb , i don't drop it.. " :bonk:

Ha! You got tangoed mate! :D Excellent shot! You should be prouda that!

Cheap tesco orangeade actually... but i'm vain and the shot looked so much beter I think as I changed the label over to a fanta one!

Good shot mark  nice Idea ;)

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Thanks! I could not have afforded champers... and I had a few shots with my hand out the way and more spray... but this seemed to fit the theme open beter as there was the physical presence of the opening hand!

I've finally had what I hope is going to be a good idea for this week... but wont shoot it now till sat as got a busy week ahead and also im only ever in at night and the daylight will help the shot. Have really struggled up to know with hard ideas... had a few but i'm not hard enough to take them... I thought about going out and finding a group of neds and ask to take their portrait... but I decided that I was not hard enough to ask! Then I seen a guy walking a British Bulldog outside my house... I didn't have the camera out at all... and again I was not hard enough to ask him to stop and let me take a pic of his dog... So im not giving my ideas away yet but I hope you will all like it. I'm aware its going to be another in and around the house shot... I really need to get out soon!

Hi all

Have had this idea in my head all week and was not sure how it would turn out. On shooting it I really struggled to get the timing and shutter speed right and I think I've ended up loosing a bit to much Depth of Field in payoff for a faster shutter speed... also I ran out of bricks as they kept breaking... I'm not overly happy with the shot but it will have to do as it's Saturday the week is over... and I really don't have the right lighting rig for this kinda stuff... Any ideas on how I could have improved this will be appreciated... Im thinking I need to get outside though for whatever my shot is next week!

Thanks in advance of your interest in my work!

Looking forward to next weeks theme... as HARD was hard for me!

This was the best of 30 shots... some of which the brick was not in the pic... and I had to get it before it hit the hard hat as it looked awful when that moved too!

Great idea for the theme, I had considered a shot of a "hard hat" but couldn't figure out a way to make it look interesting - but you have. Shame the brick is not a bit more prominent, but a great idea and you can almost hear the thud.

Simon.

Thanks simon... At least my idea was good... I really struggled with the timing of the drop... I took some others whith less blur and afew with t motion frozzen... But they were not good either. The factgravity accelerates the brick so fast made it real tricky... I envisaged momething a bit better! Wanted to try and get hat to stay still at imact too but couldnt... Also digital trickerys not my thing... Just simple curve adjusting etc for me in dpp.

Hi All

I really struggled with this as in my head clutter meant so much more than just a messy pile... It meant "Stuff" that we lovingly keep for whatever reason because it may be useful... a collection of things which may not be worth anything more than to the individual who keeps them... So I thought long and hard and did not just want to post a pic of a mess somewhere... then I turned in my chair to get my dictionary at work to look up the word clutter and there my clutter was! I'm normally a very tidy person... my desk is spotless as I have OCD about it... but my shelf at work is a clutter... full of things I either pick up for inspiration... books and manuals I keep just incase I need them again... reference materials... my PPE... parts im working on or have had taken off the bridge whilst I source an alternative etc... (I work on the Forth Rail Bridge... BTW) ... documents I think I should keep or work i've done that i'll prob never look at again... but I just might!

Anyway... I spent ages on the crop... I swithered with this version and a tighter crop... this one was my final choice... so interested if people think they would crop some more?

Finally I took the pic at the angle deliberately... apart from liking the odd use of squint pics I thought it added to the feeling of clutter!

I hope you like... please be honest though with your crit... good or bad!

I really like:)
I like the random angle, and I love the fact everyone gets different interpretations of the word clutter...

I only have one question...
Have they REALLY changed the paint they use on the bridge so it doesn't have to be continually painted?

Hi Mark, I think the crop is fine, I also like the fact you have done it at an angle, lighting looks good, well done.

Good... Glad u like the crop... Spent ages tinkering with it. Lighting was just as it was with the light on and window to the right ofthe shot. Had a real issue with the folder labels overexposing in the first few shots. Still slightly bright even in final image

Hi mate...

Glad you liked the pic... and sorry I didnt get back to you last night... was looking on my Iphone and dont really like typing too much on it!

In answer to your question... Yes we have changed the paint to a glass flake epoxy paint system. It's not really new technology as such... they have used it offshore in the oil industry for years. However the system we are using is only about ten years old. We are due to finish at the end of this year and that will have taken ten years to paint the bridge with this system. The lad tests show it will last 25years for def before major signs of breakdown... but Network rail hope it will last longer than that before a full recoat is carried out. There are some trial areas from the start which might need redone in about 5 years time but only as the spec then was in development and much learning came from the mistakes made there.

I should point out that this is actually the first time in the bridges life that it has been painted properly... before all that happened was that painters brushed the worst of the rust off and overcoated it... we are grit blasting down to bare steel then recoating. I wont bore any of you with any more than that... It's a great place to work!
