weekly Mandy's first 52 challenge 2014 week 52 added and all finished now

I couldn't help my self i had to have another go at this same set up. The only thing i did differently was to blue tack 2 bits of black card to either side off my flashgun to stop light bleeding on to my background. I also paid a bit more attention to my pp work and i am much more happier with this image.

Great smoke shots Mandy. I like all of them. #1 looks like a hooded ghostly figure rising up out of the ground, and you've captured some great shapes in#2.

#3 is a very good. Love the colour and the sharpness of the shape you've captured.

Well done getting these Mandy - love the blue in your edited shot...

Think the best ones of these are where the initial image is transformed into something, by layering other smoke plumes and colouring and erasing etc. You look to have the technique sussed to shoot these though.

Hi Mandy, your 3rd attempt is so much better, I think you may have been a bit hasty with the first two, well done for working on it its paid off

Bubble - #2 for me like the graining on the BG and nice clean bubble (y)
Smoke - Of the 3 I prefer the 2nd Edit of #2 as it holds a lot more interest and I like the subtle colour of the smoke. (y)

you've done really with with the background in the last one. I like the smoke in the first the best as its nice and sharp and contained. Its hard to get a good composition when shooting smoke as its so unpredictable! good job.

Good work all round Mandy, you've certainly nailed these smoke shots (y)
I admire your perseverance in sticking with it and perfecting the images. :)

Thanks for your kind comments, I think its the best way for me to learn rather than try to do a bit of this and a bit of that and a bit of the other and ending up all confused.com. If i focus on one thing at a time in terms a technique or subject matter or a way in which i process the image i am finding that what i learn stays with me better. so that when i next come to do it, it becomes second nature to me.

I like your thinking on that Mandy (y)

comment catch up time your smoke edit is very good but wow wow wow i really love your second bubble shot top drawer.

My take on this week's theme Mineral is a product style shot of a bottle off Mineral water. I was excited to take this image as i now have my beloved 600D back from the camera doctors. The thing i struggled most with was getting the settings for the lighting correct and the positioning of the flash, as i used the flash off camera. I am fairly happy with this image, as always your comments and crit are most welcome.

Nice take on the theme it well captured and a good product shot. Im not sure if there should be a shadow or not. It looks like its floating but cant decide if thats good or not.

Very quick though. Puts me to shame as im about two weeks behind now.

Like.
The blue looks great on the sides of the bottle and it fits well with the theme.
Good work Mandy :)

Hi, quick off the mark...

Obviously on theme, good lighting and sharp where needed.

It doesn't grab me as an exciting photograph, though and I did think at fist sight about the blueness, however, move decided that I like it.

As a product photograph it works white well. I think a shadow would have grounded the bottle rather than have it appear to float.

Feet up for the week :)

Cheers.
