Manchester pride parade

I didn't take any, Dave

Wifey panicked before I'd got my lens cover off :(

Tell you what, though. There were some incredible-looking people there! :D

There were some incredible looking cameras too!!! When I see people walking round with 3 Canon 1D's round their necks, my camera & lens envy goes into overdrive!!:(

It was a great afternoon, and I managed to prize the Ixus 75 off the missus a couple of times, so I'll see what candids I got later on. I couldn't take the 450D, as I had a little trip to Lazytown with twin 2 year old nephews to contend with first!! :D

I'm jealous

I would have loved to have stuck around. I think I'll go on my own next year

Just looking at whiteflyers post, the best place to get happy snapping was before the parade itself down by MOSI IMO. There were lots of people getting ready, happy to pose for photos and a nice pre parade atmosphere without the crowds and barriers. No need for press passes! :)

That's where I was!

We probably passed each other like ships in the night

Did you have a big camera and lens? I was the one in your photos with green eyes, you should be able to correct it in photoshop!! ;) :D

Alas, I had a small camera and lens. And you know what they say about men with small cameras and lenses :(

And double alas, I didn't take any photos :(:(

So your green eyes will have to remain un-photoshopped, old chap

Woe is me!! :sulk:

As you say down in Castlefields before the start was a great place today for shot, very friendly as expected and all willing to pose (that's the point in them dressing up)

There normally are togs with multi bodies, one wide lens and one tele, as I've said on here before I've missed so many shots with having the wrong lens at the right time.

:( how come your wife was so uncomfortable? thats a shame!
yeah come next year, it is so fun to take pictures :)

:agree:

Nothing to be afraid of, I'm as straight as they come but have no problems at all, my 78 year dad came along today and no worries for him either.

Let be honest there is plenty to look at the colours and costumes, and some very sexy folk :) OK the ones I fancy are always holding hands with another girl :( but it don't stop me looking

You wife has nothing to fear, until you buy the tee shirts I saw today

" Sack the bitch and make the switch" in a nice shade of pink, in men sizes only

I was too tired to hang around for the good stuff on the main stage tonight, so no pics of singers, but back tomorrow and Monday if it doesn't rain too hard.

She's straightlaced. That's it, really :(

What's happening tomorrow? Anything for free? I don't fancy paying 17 quid or whatever it is

Went to the Parade this afternoon, was pretty good and people were really enjoying themselves.Had picked a spot on Deansgate and clicked away, looking at the images now, nothing seems to be sharp, guess I need to just keep practising. Most of the photos were took in direct sunlight ,they seem flat and none of them have a 'wow' factor. All my photos are in RAW but dont seem to be able to PP them properly.
Kendun
p.s saw quite a few togs with pro cameras and lenses but dont know whether they are members of TP.Ran into a press photographer, said she works for the Press Association, had a couple of D3s on her, dont think she's a member on TP.

2 things -

Raw pics always need some PP. They always look flat straight out of the cam and will also look soft too. You need to do some work on them.

If they really are out of focus (as opposed to looking a bit soft) remember you're shooting a moving target - try using AI servo (that's the Canon term) as your focus mode, then your focus point will move with the subject as the subject moves.

Thank you mobilevirgin,
I've got a Nikon D70,will try to find out the equivalent focus mode.Trying to PP using CS2 and Scott Kelby's CS2 book. Will try to upload a few photos once I've done some PP.

Will try to upload a few photos once I've done some PP.

Please do - I'll wager they're not as bad as you seem to think they are.

And there are always people on here who will offer good advice

Here's one

ha - cool - bigger is better - but I don't see any flaws in that

Hi mobilevirgin,
I'm finding it difficult to resize, either it gets beyond 200k or less than 100 k,here's another version, this seems to be the best out of 250 odd photos.
I'm gutted that I took 250 odd pics and it seems maybe 5/6 might be ok....

hah i spotted some guys i know on some of photos :)

Kendun, I know whats wrong with your photos, you used too high ISO. It causes noises, use ISO 100 or 200 for daylight :)

Kendun, I just think you need a levels adjustment or white balance, there looks to be a slight colour cast on your shots.

Hi d_pipa,
Thank you, just switched my camera on now,had set it for ISO 1000 when I had been to speedwell cavcern and had turned it off, have learnt a leson now, guess having it at the lowest ISO would have made a difference

Hi whiteflyer,
I'm still getting to grips with CS2,what WB would suggest,I've shot everything in RAW? How do I go about with the levels/what do I do?

Since I've made the mistake of shooting in high ISO are these photos salvageable due to being in RAW or do I need to bin them and wait for next year?

best is to keep it - you may need it in the future :) now you have learnt your mistake, you can do it again next year. hope you enjoyed the day!

well, will have to read Scott Kelby's book in detail to see if I can do anything to reduce noise and maybe slavage the photos, here's my take on the crowds
Resize_Wizard-1.jpg

Good work both of you - Kendun, I think you're being too hard on yourself - you've got some decent shots - maybe some cropping would be in order.

Here's a quick edit of your last one - In PS - auto colour, auto levels, auto contrast and a high pass sharpen (ignore the red grid - its a screen grab)

Thank you mobilevirgin, going to spend a few hours on photoshop later.
