You can't get the non-glossy screen on the 13" either. Back to the drawing board...

Have they changed the 13" other than putting up the price?

I don't think you have ever been able to unfortunately.

Been waiting for this. Now just need to decide between a 15" and 17"

Go for the 17" they are a joy to use and a proper desktop replacement. I have a 2.66GHz model with 4Gb Ram, 1600x1200 matt screen and a 500Gb 7200HD which was the top model about 18 months or so ago and it is still blisteringly good. I really see no need to upgrade at the moment and I bet if you do get that model you will be saying the same in a couple of years!

Just been looking at the prices, there isn't that much difference between the 15 and the 17" with the options I would want. Only about £160 in it.

**** there not half expensive.
Im not sure what one to do
15/17
Gotta be 2.66 but what screen for editing.
Suppose the smaller screen will be better for carrying around

Go for the 17" you will always think you have settled for 2nd best if you get the 15". 1920x1200 is a serious resolution on a laptop :)

I wish the had a high res screen option on the 13"

I have a 15" & 13" MBP here that are (were) the latest models until today.

I like the portability of the 13" but I need the resolution of the 15"

I remember some years back I purchased an IBM laptop which had a very high resolution even by todays standard (if i recall correctly 1600 x 1200) in a 15 inch screen
Loved it for that.

I wonder if in real life the latest upgrades are going to make that much of a difference in performance. ?

Has anyone tried that to exchange macbook pro?
Like I recently bought the 13" MBP on 28th March.

Any chance to exchange for the new 13" MBP?

Thanks
Kevin

I think it was a good update, a lot of people are moaning saying its a the worst update they have seen but you have to take into consideration that its only a mid cycle update.

Better processors across the range.
Better Graphics
Bigger HDs
4gb RAM as standard
Better battery life

Kevin, apple will not let you exchange the MBP you have just bought

you'll only make that mistake once in your life, next time you'll check for any rumours of releases

It's alright as I have to use it for my Uni work..
But might as well save $ for iMac or MBP 15" as desktop replacement when "back to school" promotion.

Still 5400rpm HDDs though. :(

yeah, but 7200 rpm hard drives will kill the battery...

won't think you settled for 2nd best if you carry it around at all regularly...

Not really, there is very little difference between a decent 5400rpm drive and a decent 7200rpm drive power wise. Either way i'd be far happier losing 5% of the battery life for a much greater performance in everyday use.

If I end up getting a macbook unfortunately that's the first thing I would be changing. The synic in me thinks the reason Apple stick 5400rpm drives in there is because (like most manufacturers) people only care about size, most don't even realise there HDDs have different speeds, and so they can use cheaper disks and get a bigger profit margin.

(Part of the reason I bought my Dell 3 years ago is because I could spec it with a 7200RPM drive, still has a 7 hour battey life however)

true...surprised they don't let you pay twice the price of a bare 7200rpm drive to get one spec'd with one, like they do with ram and all the similar upgrades...

If you bought it from apple you have 14 days after delivery in which you can return it for a refund.

Call them asap and tell them

Then just order the new one.

not sure if there is any cost with the uk site but i know the us has a 10% restocking fee for opened items and there is no shipping fund return so I guess thats a cost of about £100 to return if its the same

I bought them in store, I have tried and return the new white macbook before in Oct 09 within 14 days and you will get full refund.
But I think if more than 14 days, need to pay for restock fees but then not sure if they will let you refund though.

Anyway, I want this new one as 4GB ram but then I am happy with mine now. :)

I had a look at the new computers in the Apple Store today and they're really nice, but I really don't like the touchpad on them still, I like the click button my 13" macbook haha. and I reckon I'll get the 15" once my macbook goes. If I got a 15" do you think I'll be able to fit that in my Lowepro Fastpack 350?

I still think that the 17" is best :) I am sat here watching Grand designs in bed and on the laptop. The 1920x1200 screen is a no compromise addition which really does make the 17" and desktop replacement.

I used a 20" prototype laptop last year that a friend (from my electronics days) had been working on. What a monster, it only had the same resolution but I bet today they could get 2560x1600 on a 20" now that would be some lugabout/laptop......

Im probaly going to got for the 15 just purely coz its smaller and lighter.
Im going to be travelling a load in the next few months and what to keep everything as light as possible.

Just waiting to be paid so I can sink some money into it...

When the Unibody 17" was being launched, about a year ago now, I was in the dilemma of which to go for? 15" or 17" ... it was an upgrade from the 13" black MacBook.

I listened to Cowasaki and waited for the 17" (there are threads on that episode of my life here on TP); and have not regretted this once. The screen size and resolution just makes this a joy to use, to have on my lap, connected to my 1TB USB drive and viewing my photos.

The screen size is huge, resolution is outstanding, battery life is unbelievable ; the only down side is that it is too big to lug around for overnight, or short couple of days, trips; but still, I manage to find away to take it.

This has got to be one of the best decisions for my photography, after my camera and lens collection.

I have to admit I bought the 13" last year, which I have been more than happy as I also purchased a 24" IMac at the same time. The 24" has since been upgraded to a 27" i7 which was a really good choice for my photo work. The 13" was purely for short trips & have found it a limit, your aguements for a 17" seem a good way to go & use perhaps an IPad (with 3G) for overnight trips etc which would easily replace what I use the 13" Macbook for. Guess I need to start saving again:bang:

Ok heres a question, my father in law got stung by the new ones coming out a week after he bought his. He bought the intel core 2 duo 2.53ghz 15 inch one.

He has 14 days to return it.

The 2.53ghz i5 one is a few hundred pounds more expensive and has a bigger HD and better graphics card - clearly it would be a better machine, particularly since it would be quad core and he'll be using it for photoshop and other multitasking stuff.

But, the 2.4GHz also has the i5, now would a 2.4GHz i5 processor be faster than a 2.53 core 2 duo processor given that the price difference there isn't as big.

What I'm saying is, if he doesn't want to spend more than what he paid, would he be better of sticking with his 2.53 Core 2 Duo or would it be better to go for the slightly slower, yet quad core i5 version?

Absolutely would be the i5 is up to 50% faster per clock cycle so UPTO the equivalent of a 3.6GHz core2duo. If it were me I would already be driving to the store :)

I'm gutted because I really wanted the 13" but they've not made it with the i5, just the same core 2 duo.

Can't make my mind up whether it's worth sacrificing the smaller screen I want to get an i5 processor :(

i was holding out for a 13" upgrade, glad i didn't now as got a used white one to tie me over

The i5 is a dual core in the MBPs

I would go for the new one as all 15" has integrated graphics and dedicated graphics which the lowest spec of 15" doesn't have.
And i5 also has HyperThreading as well which simulated as 4cores.
I think it is worth to go for the new 15"
