Been waiting for this. Now just need to decide between a 15" and 17"
Go for the 17" they are a joy to use and a proper desktop replacement. I have a 2.66GHz model with 4Gb Ram, 1600x1200 matt screen and a 500Gb 7200HD which was the top model about 18 months or so ago and it is still blisteringly good. I really see no need to upgrade at the moment and I bet if you do get that model you will be saying the same in a couple of years!
Just been looking at the prices, there isn't that much difference between the 15 and the 17" with the options I would want. Only about £160 in it.
I think it was a good update, a lot of people are moaning saying its a the worst update they have seen but you have to take into consideration that its only a mid cycle update.
Better processors across the range.
Better Graphics
Bigger HDs
4gb RAM as standard
Better battery life
Kevin, apple will not let you exchange the MBP you have just bought
Has anyone tried that to exchange macbook pro?
Like I recently bought the 13" MBP on 28th March.
Any chance to exchange for the new 13" MBP?
Thanks
Kevin

you'll only make that mistake once in your life, next time you'll check for any rumours of releases

Still 5400rpm HDDs though.![]()
Go for the 17" you will always think you have settled for 2nd best if you get the 15". 1920x1200 is a serious resolution on a laptop![]()
If I end up getting a macbook unfortunately that's the first thing I would be changing. The synic in me thinks the reason Apple stick 5400rpm drives in there is because (like most manufacturers) people only care about size, most don't even realise there HDDs have different speeds, and so they can use cheaper disks and get a bigger profit margin.
(Part of the reason I bought my Dell 3 years ago is because I could spec it with a 7200RPM drive, still has a 7 hour battey life however)

If you bought it from apple you have 14 days after delivery in which you can return it for a refund.
Call them asap and tell them
Then just order the new one.
not sure if there is any cost with the uk site but i know the us has a 10% restocking fee for opened items and there is no shipping fund return so I guess thats a cost of about £100 to return if its the same
... it was an upgrade from the 13" black MacBook. Are the hard drives on these 'user-replaceable' like on the old Macbooks?
Ok heres a question, my father in law got stung by the new ones coming out a week after he bought his. He bought the intel core 2 duo 2.53ghz 15 inch one.
He has 14 days to return it.
The 2.53ghz i5 one is a few hundred pounds more expensive and has a bigger HD and better graphics card - clearly it would be a better machine, particularly since it would be quad core and he'll be using it for photoshop and other multitasking stuff.
But, the 2.4GHz also has the i5, now would a 2.4GHz i5 processor be faster than a 2.53 core 2 duo processor given that the price difference there isn't as big.
What I'm saying is, if he doesn't want to spend more than what he paid, would he be better of sticking with his 2.53 Core 2 Duo or would it be better to go for the slightly slower, yet quad core i5 version?

I'm gutted because I really wanted the 13" but they've not made it with the i5, just the same core 2 duo.
Can't make my mind up whether it's worth sacrificing the smaller screen I want to get an i5 processor![]()

The i5 is a dual core in the MBPs
