Do any of the football togs use the Macbook air for sending pics from the touchline.Just wundering as it is small and compact but not as powerfull as the Macbook pro. What do most folks use?

Dunno about the Air Allan but I can't see why it wouldn't be up to the job?, I personally use either a Dell Lattitude 6400 or a Macbook Pro 13"!!. Kind regards Graham.

Ive done some real life test between the latest spec MBA 13" and a MBP 13" and if anything, the MBA feels quicker and more responsive due to the SSD. The MBA also runs at 1440x900 whilst the MBP is only 1280x800.

Really wish I had spent the little extra and got the MBA instead of the MBP. I stuck with the MBP because of the CD drive, but in the 8 months I've had it I haven't put one single disc in it!

Does anyone here use the 15" macbook pitch side or are they a bit big?

Why are you stuck with the CD if you don't use it?

Sounds like you don't need it.

I've been having a close look at the Air as well as the new ultrabooks that are hitting the market. All very interesting indeed, certainly light and portable. There are a couple of 13" ultrabooks that look superb (Asus and Acer) and there are also some 11" ones from Asus and Samsung.

Overall, prices remain pretty high though in the £800-£1000 range which is a lot of pictures to sell to cover that value.

Bear in mind as well that the new Intel CPUs should be out in the next 2 months as that the Airs and Ultrabooks may all get a refresh fairly quickly.

The problem with the Acer S series is that they haven't upgraded the USB slots to 3.0 yet.

I'm looking at upgrading to a 15.5" from an 11.2" and 14" at the moment and it's a close run thing between the Acer 5830TG and a Samsung 700 series, both at about £900.

Intel will natively support USB 3 on the new Ivy Bridge chips due soon.

I think USB 3 will then become defacto on PCs and Notebooks.

might wait to see what mac do with the new Ivy chips

check out Dan Carr's website he goes in depth on the MBA for use in the field instead of a MBP

Cheers for that, some real good info

no problem, i hope it was usefull. i personally will not buy a mac be a air or a pro. just a simple notebook insert a ssd, max the ram out and install XP.

I agree with all of that apart from the XP part. Win7 is far better at running 64bit processing.

Thanks for the tutorials btw!

I bought a Core 2 Duo Thinkpad on eBay with 4Gb of RAM. Popped a 128Gb SSD and it's ready to log in, in 17 seconds and ready to go in 25.

Running Win 7 x64.

have'nt used 7 on my laptop but xp is amazing for long battery when doing simple task's such as ingesting and captioning. i can load my laptop up and go to my computer in 15 seconds

Only one USB port for a start.........

Ummm no... All Airs have 2 USB ports, the 13" also having an SD card slot. They all also have a Thunderbolt port, which is starting to be supported and is the fastest connector available

Old airs have one, the new one has 2.

Regarding a post higher up, I use my 15" or a 13" mbp. Start up on mine is about 30 secs, that's with the standard slow as HD
