I was driving back to Oxford on the M25 tonight, the weather was awful making the driving conditions in the heavy rain treacherous yet some drivers were hurtling along at reckless suicidal speeds in some places, brake light were appearing regularly as drivers had to suddenly slow down when they were unable to see ahead of them. I had suicidal drivers tailgating me, how on earth they had any visibility driving in the spray behind my car I do not know, I also had cars pulling in front of me and obscuring my visibility!!. One driver at a cautious speed in the inside lane was even flashed and tailgated by a bus, where was the car driver supposed to go! if he was not driving fast enough for the bus why didn't the bus driver overtake!. Another lunatic driver caused me and other drivers to brake when he shot across at speed from the outside lane to a sliproad off.

Mrs G was terrified after that incident and I had to move from lane two to lane one to calm her nerves.

I was amazed at the recklessness of some drivers in what are the worst road conditions in the wet I have ever driven in!!.

Glac you got home safely though

Sounds pretty normal for the m25, get used to it after a while

Seems there's not much middle ground anymore. It's either painfully slow, even in the heavy rain, or break-neck fast. It's just a shame that these idiots get away with it. I drive cautiously and still end up fragging my car beyond all belief :'(

Well I am pleased I do not have to get used to it, I am only down here for a week and I have only one more trip on the M25 tomorrow, travelling down in the sunshine was fairly normal to me so hoping the weather is better for the return trip in the dark.

Sell your car Mal, and get the train back  I ****ing hate the M25

Sound pretty normal for most motorways actually,i do about 35K miles a year and see this on a regular basis, what gets me is when I am overtaking someone, doing 70MPH and get flashed by morons coming up behind me as if I am the one breaking the law. Oh yes and middle lane hoggers

Oh yes and middle lane hoggers

Don't get me started. Middle lane hoggers, idiots joining the motorway who think for some reason that I can't comprehend that it's their right of way, the terminally blind who somehow miss 50 signs saying lane closed so they have to cut in at the last possible moment...

Gah!

I was involved in an accident on the M6 on wednesday, there was a queue to get off at J6 northbound so the inside lane was stationary, I was following a skip wagon in the middle lane at about 20-25mph when I hear a really loud bang.

The skip wagon had run into the back of an articulated trailer , he then started rolling back, I had nowhere to go so waited for the inevitable crunch , despite me sitting there with my hand on the hooter it happened as he rolled into me.

I got out as soon as the traffic had all stopped so I didn't get mowed down by some w****r on his way to a meeting.

Approaching the front of the truck I could see why he hadn't been able to stop himself rolling back, the chassis and engine had gone under the back of the trailer in front and the cab had hit the doors head on, it was crushed preventing the doors from being opened, the skip had slid forward hitting the back of the cab.

The driver had the wheel and pedals pinning him in his seat, he seemed Ok and was able to talk to me but couldn't move.

I tried crowbaring the door open but it was jammed solid, it took the fire brigade to get it openwith the hydraulic cutters, when he got out he was OK though they did take him to hospital.

The one thing that has opened my eyes is the amount of damage caused when 2 trucks collide, I honestly think another 5mph and he would have been dead or if he'd been behind me I would have been dead.

I really think there should be videos shown on TV of crashes like this when they're captured on CCTV, it might make a few people think about what they're doing.

this video below shows how quickly it can all go wrong

WARNING I suspect people were killed in this but I honestly believe seeing this might save other peoples lives

I see enough horrific accidents involving trucks Wack, some driver seem to think that because they are as comfy as cars, that they drive like cars, they don`t. And the majority of car drivers have no idea how much time and room we need to stop and manouver these things. Saying that, there are some crap drivers of all vehicles about.

You're not wrong there, every day I see somebody who thinks it's OK to be in the outside lane at 90mph then dive in front of a truck just as the chevrons start for the exit he wants.

There just aren't enough motorway police these days, they've been replaced by VOSA and Traffic Officers, none of which have any authority to enforce car drivers.

Made the second trip last night, at 10pm it was 2 hours later, weather was an improvement, traffic was relatively lighter but there was still the lunatic element out there driving, I was in lane two most of the way and for some reason a driver of one car decided to keep up with me in lane one in my blind spot and occasionally undertake then drop back to my blind spot :cuckoo:

I am pleased I will not have to travel to Croydon from Oxford too often but I suppose after a while you do get used to it.

'Fraid to say you don't, or at least I haven't yet ! - There's a different breed of nutter out there every day.......

This week I get the joys of the M25 twice, and the M4 once (got to go to Swindon for a couple of days) - wonder who I upset?

For the person in lane 1 element, you could ask why you werent in lane 1 yourself, rather then lane 2? Which is what maybe what he trying to to make you think?

Been driving on the M25 on a weekly basis pretty much since the day after i past my test, M25 first day after your test in a long wheel base Transit for the first time is a bit nevy to say the least. I quite often now feel safer driving in the 70mph rush hour traffic (when most people know where there going) then on a Sunday afternoon. Atleast in the rush hour theres loons but there more experianced loons, then these slow moving middle lane dwellers that poddle along at 50 in lane 2 or worse lane 3 so they have an escape route.

Must say appart from a couple of junctions where the motorway splits, i cannot say the M25 is any different to any other motorway.

are in my opinion, undoubtedly the cause of almost as many accidents, traffic jams and road rage lunacy than mobile phones, eating apples and wasps !!

And yes, would rather a weekday rush-hour than a rainy Sunday too

Are you making the assumption that I am, in your words, one of the slow moving middle lane dwellers that poddle along at 50 in lane 2 . ?

I said I was in lane 2 most of the way, those in lanes 3 and 4 were mostly doing well over 70mph, I was in lane one when it was safe to do so at 70mph, and the "Loon" in my blind spot was doing over 70mph to occasionally undertake me, he was best ignored if it was a reaction he was after so I remained in lane two at my chosen speed until he left on a slip road.

Atleast in the rush hour theres loons but there more experianced loons,

russdaz, I might be from rural Northumberland but I still know how to behave sensibly on motorways.

Two accidents last night on the way back from Somerset, a car on its side just north of the bridge over the Severnn on the M5 & 3/4 cars badly shunted near Swindon on the M4. Weather was horrific & idiots still plowing along at silly speeds

i was on the M3 the other night, it was drizzly on and off but this section was dry, and saw someone with not only their front AND back fogs on, but also their main beam AS WELL. I guess it's hard to see the 3 extra lights on the dash when your sat nav is at full brightness in the middle of the windscreen. Pat yourself on the back, you moron.

One of the annoying bits on the motorway is when there are the 'Keep 2 Chevrons Apart' signs. I do my best to leave the gap but someone fills it. I drop back again to 2 chevrons and someone else fills it. Then there's always someone trying to get in my boot who's probably less than half a chevron away. :bat:

It's not as if you can't see the big blue signs on the motorway.

Sorry wasnt the way i meant it to sound, or come accross, but can see why you thought that though.

But in fairness the 2 chevrons are a long long way apart aren't they

I drive the best part of 35k miles per year and have just given up on the idiocy of road users, I'm not making out that I am the best driver in the world far from it - but there are idiot road users of all disciplines out there, car drivers, truck drivers, cyclists even police drivers!

There is a complete breakdown of road manners and understanding of road use if you ask me

I try and avoid motorways as much as possible, obviously I do have to use them and when I do it Cruise Control set at 85 job done.

I am not on the M25 though, very rarely have to touch the brakes on a M'way and if I need to knock Criuse off I do it on the wheel or clutch.

As an ex-biker I look along way up the road and tend always to be off the gas in anticipation of the 15 cars in front hitting their brakes !
