Sadly these days it's getting harder to buy food that isn't low fat.

Today I was looking for my usual yogurt but they didn't have any. They had "Zero Fat," "Low Fat" and "Virtually No Fat." This annoys me and it has annoyed me for some time and reminded me that a while ago I had to give up buying a range of vegetarian pies and stuff because they changed the recipe to "low fat" and they were just awful, horrible and inedible. At the time and just for fun and to ease my annoyance I emailed the company and I was surprised to get a reply the gist of which was that they'd had so many complaints that the stuff was horrible that they were now going to review the recipe. As compensation they sent me some coupons. Great. Coupons for inedible horrible food. That range is now absent from the shelves so I suppose they just gave up on it, such a shame as I used to enjoy the pies before they banjaxed the recipe.

Anyway. Today, just in case there was any of my yogurt in the store room I asked but was told it was dropped a couple of weeks ago and the only non low fat one they carried now was a Greek style one. The staff member went on to tell me about a customer who for medical reasons had to have the full fat stuff but couldn't get any and that it's just getting harder to get these days.

What a shame it is that the good full fat tasty stuff is being removed from the shelves presumably because of the epidemic of people who can't stop piling the weight on. I too have a weight problem in that I have to eat to maintain my weight and if I don't eat nutritious full fat stuff I lose weight and yet I increasingly find tasty full fat food replaced by bland or even worse horrible tasting low fat stuff.

Surely there's room on a supermarket shelf somewhere for some good full fat yogurt, pies, beans, ice cream, crisps, chocolate and all of the stuff that's disappearing from the shops for us people who aren't obese and who want tasty food to eat as a part of a healthy balanced diet? Maybe security guards could stand guard to turn the chubby away and make sure that only us skinny people get access.

I suppose I'm in a tiny minority and therefore don't matter to the low fat fascists.

PS. I make my own pies and pasties now and everyone says how lovely they are. They are lovely and made with lots of full fat butter while I can still get it.

Yay!!!!!!

Someone after my own heart!

Full fat, full of flavor, all the way!

Make your own yogurt yum n fun.

I have no idea how to but I just might have to Google it but I wonder how long we'll be able to get full fat milk and cream? If that's what yogurt is made of...

Who is "they"?

PS.
As I drove home, fuming... I was thinking about why people are fat and whilst not wishing to upset too many people I do think that the vast majority are fat because they eat too much, including eating too much of the wrong stuff, and burn too few calories but it occurred to me that there's another common reason for being fat (at least in my area) and it's alcohol. So, I have to suffer bland food because others drink too much larger? Great.

You want me to name and shame the supermarket?

Ok. ASDA. But I'm certain that the rest are just the same.

I don't see it as naming and shaming.
Shop around.

They're all the same. I regularly go to ASDA, Morrisons and Tesco.

I suppose there may be some little independent shops stocking full fat food somewhere in the country but not where I live.

Where do you know that sells a really good range of full fat food for skinny people to enjoy?

Quick look shows up regular Mueller yogs in all the major supermarkets,

I like these situations, see it as a business opportunity

I used to love Asda Greek style Yogurts, I then went on to their own brand set Yogurts and I did like them also. No idea if they were low middle or high fat, but they were nice as I say. I stopped buying them a year or so ago, and then I had a faze of indulging in Muller Rice, but they seem to have gone too sickly sweet, so ditched them in the end. Not had any treats like that in ages :(

Your local butcher.
Our local one tends to be cheaper than the supermarkets and the quality is so much better.
Sausages for example- put them on the Foreman Grill and nothing comes out, put supermarket sausages on and the drip tray fills with water and grease.
Same with mince. There's a white residue with supermarket mince when it cools down (fat obviously), none with mince from the butcher.
His pies are home made too.

Only trouble is that there is always a queue, not that you would have to queue in a supermarket...

That doesn't seem to be yogurt. Is it?

Whatever that is it wasn't on the yogurt shelves in ASDA. Believe me, I checked every different pot.

Yes it's yoghurt.

See as we are talking about food and ASDA has been mentioned....

I was in my local ASDA just the other day in their meat section, I was looking for some lamb but couldn't find the lamb anywhere

So I ask the ASDA sales person if they could help me find the lamb, they went past all the other meat sections to a section designated just for halal "Here you go sir" she said - I said to her do you not sell any other lamb other than halal? She mumbled that's all they had

Doesn't look like yogurt. None of the pictures of it look like yogurt. Looks like yogurt, rice and stuff. Anyway, if they do a yogurt as I said it wasn't on the shelf at ASDA. I'll watch out for it but what I want is a big tub of natural full fat yogurt not a fruit flavoured yogurt rice snack.

Steak Pies in a Rich Gravy, I think I will get in the queue also. I love a nice steak pie with chips, but it's difficult to get a good pie. Last pie I got from supermarket was horrible, lumps of chewie grisly fat

Forgive me.

I'm sensing a full on "I want" foot stamping strop

The shop has IMO being on a slow slide down hill and the staff at my local branch are mostly appalling but Tesco staff are no better.

Mark's pies are well known around here. People come from miles around to buy them.
They queue outside the shop on a Friday and Saturday.

It is a sort of serious issue for me in that even though I'm in my 50's now I still have to almost force feed myself to maintain my weight. At the mo I weigh 10st 4lb (I'm 5'8") but if I was to stop force feeding myself my weight would drop to something between 9 and 9 1/2 st. and I look way too skinny. I do still look skinny at 10st but not as bad. That might not sound like too much of a problem but being skinny can be a real arse. When I first met my current GF she used to tell me off for eating too much but she's now realised I have to eat a lot.

Make one!
I might just do that, I love baking cakes me speciality being a fruit cake :)

Don't you have butcher's shops way down South?

Civilisation! That's why we're the Athens of the North.

Don't like the smell of Lamb cooking, but I like it roasted with mint sauce. Got some Lamb chops a while ago, bloomin expensive they were, and a waste of time as there was no meat on them! Tend to get Chicken now!

In England, it appears to a Scotsman, anywhere north of London is The North...

Yay!!!!!!

Someone after my own heart!

Full fat, full of flavor, all the way!

My wife bought me some "low fat" bacon when what I actually wanted was some "you may not survive this" bacon but I have lost 18lb in 2 months with a long way to go so she's helping me but it's tough.

Aldi do some nice yoghurt that isn't low fat

Too much sugar.

Steve.
Or not getting out with their camera enough, and not walking their dog if they have one. I eat far too much, and all the wrong things. I can have a big breakfast, large lunch massive evening meal and supper. Oh and sweets etc, not forgetting generous helpings of cake. Friends and family always comment on the amount I eat, I am 5ft 8 in and weigh 12 stone 8lb sorry to our young members, don't know what that is in new money. I have eaten like that for as long as I can remember, and my weight has been the same since being an adult. I have always had dogs, and take the dog for three brisk walks a day, even if it's raining.

If I was not mobile for some reason and I could not exercise, I would definitely cut down and eat more healthy. So being physically fit, I will continue to eat like a pig :D
