I have just had a reporter from my local paper telephone me and has been asking me questions about all the things you have all done for me, as she had recieved an email from someone(She couldnt disclose who it was). I told her that I dont want it being made public as I am so embarrassed over this as it is. I time and time again stated I didnt want publicity, now I feel that its making me look ungrateful when Im far from that.:(
 
Don't worry about it Julian,

Things like this have a life of their own and it could have been a friend of the journalist who mentioned it in passing (or something similar). There's an old saying mate; "no good deed goes unpunished" :D

Just relax and let it slide mate.

I would point any newspaper requests to this forum, tell 'em to read it, and respect your wishes, if they ignore that, tell them there will be 2000 knocks on their door all brandishing cameras pointed in their face. :thumbs:

I told her that it says in more than 1 location that I would be too embarrassed and prefer not to, she said ah ok thank you.

She knew me from when I got all the local teenagers together and started a youth club for them, before my stroke.
 
Really sorry to see this Julian. Hope the local paper see's fit to respect your wishes and not follow this up. We know you're not being ungrateful. The last thing any of us would want is for this to turn sour for you or your family. Hopefully it won't. I know it's easier for me to say, but try not to dwell or fret on it. We don't want you making yourself ill.
 
Tell them you are not interested and they should leave you alone, it was made abundantly clear that you wanted no publicity...we just want you to be happy with the new kit.
 
Got a feeling they will run with it, I hope Im wrong, :bang:

MODS - is the forum in the Public Domain ? ....can you prevent newspapers from quoting from "your" forum ?

If they're gonna run it, they'll already have quotes from here by now anyway.

Without wishing to appear as if i am jumping down on you. I AM NOT UP TO IT. I was and still am not dealing with my physical disabilities from all that has happened. I emotionally am not able to beat my depression and my PTSD. I am embarrassed and ashamed of who I am and what I am.

I understand your concern, and we are all in the same boat with regard to Julian, but would YOU run a story with the main article not wanting any publicity? It's not an £86 million pound lottery winner that the whole world wants to see, It's Julian, a normal guy with normal friends who just had a great day. Yes it's a great story for any press to run, but without the lead guy, it's like flying a paper plane in the rain, looks good but gets nowhere fast.

I'm with Julian on this, not against him, and if the press start sniffing, i've a feeling that a couple of hundred lenses pointed at the editor will keep him quiet, i'll be first in the queue too.

Spun?! Believe it or not, not all journalists are out to write negative stories. What is negative about this? Nothing. It's a positive, feel-good story that has physically brought a tear to the eye of many on the forums.

Sorry to hear the press have been in touch.

If they ring again, I'd just say, 'sorry, I asked for no publicity' and simply hang up. Don't even engage in any further conversation with them. I don't like reporters.:razz:

I don't blame you for not wanting publicity I'd be the same.

Scott, it's not a question of censorship, it's a question of respect for Julian. It's fantastic that this has happened but it would be foolish to ignore the fact that the situation has the potential to cause a lot of stress and pressure.

I'm sorry to hear this mate and I hope they leave you alone. Sit tight fella they can't too much without the leading lady.

I was there in Manchester that fatefull day, I was in the Arndale working, thankfully I got out well in advance. I have friends who didn't.

You have nothing to be ashamed about fella you just drew one or two too many short straws.

I wish whats said would comfort you, you I and I know it won't but do believe there are those of us who see a fine bloke and nothing else.

Keeping my fingers crossed here for you mate.
 
Just how did the press get hold of this in the first place.....Julian be very carefull what you say to people....and someone on here.....not Rob or Darren though, they wouldnt do this, but has anyone asked questions?????

Not at all Scott, i'm all for free press :thumbs:

I'm totally against invasion of someone's wishes based on getting a brownie point and furthering a career.

The whole point of what we have all done for Julian is to show him that some people really do care, and that care is for someone else, not one'self.

Julian wants it kept here, (TP) a place he trusts, and for good reason.

It was inevitable that the press would get hold of this. There are hundreds of replies on a public forum with thousands of people reading it. Even without any help from anyone on here I'd say it's a certainty someone somewhere will use this story! You can't do something like this - as publicly as this - and it not be picked up by the press. To think otherwise is a little naive.

And no - it wasn't me!
 
The information from the press is that someone from this forum emailed her. I do wonder what would be the point in knowing or trying to find out who sent it. Wheels just needs to stay firm regarding the publicity, and the person who is alledged to have sent an email from TP just needs to wrestle with their own conscience, knowing that was against all of Julians wishes.

Isn't there a danger of starting a witch hunt?

Lets just get the gear for Julian, let him enjoy it and try to get back to some sense of normality,

bloody hell......... I think it came up in "thread part I," where someone suggested the press, and Julian explicitly said, No he didn't want to, for reasons he mentioned then and has mentioned above.

If the journo did receive an email from someone at TP, who ignored Julian's request, I am pretty bloody disappointed with you whoever you are.......:shrug:

However, there's more than one way for a journo to get a lead on something...... so maybe that was just a fob-off :shrug:

Either way Wheels, if/when they ring back just ask them "What part of NO don't you understand?"
 
This is the first time I've heard of Wheels' plight and how the TP community came to his aid and I just have to say that every single person involved in that is inspirational. I have now read through the post about donating to Wheels' fund for a new camera and the necessary equipment to allow him to continue his hobby and I was overwhelmed by how quickly, and how fervently this community came to the help of one of its own - even a new member at that.

Wheels, your humility is astounding. From having seen you on this forum, I would never have expected you to be someone with such a chequered past behind you. You have a verve and tenacity which I can only imagine has come from years of battling to regain control of your life.

I am gobsmacked by the lot of you. You really are an asset to the internet and you've all made me proud to be on TP. :thumbs:
 
Rob & Darren and the hundreds of you that chipped in on here are all the true heros, I wish I was strong enough to repay you all with the publicity, I can only apologise for not having the cahooners to do it.

I for one didn't donate for publicity. I donated to help someone seriously down on his luck. The only repayment I want is for you to get out and have a good time taking photos.

This is a fantastic tribute to all, yourself included for taking the time to write it and post it.

Lets all take a minute to thank Julian for giving us all the inspiration we all needed to help someone out, and by god we did, but lets not forget the 2 that have worked tirelessly to make this really come together and run faultlessly
