Could anyone reccomend a lightweight tripod sturdy enough for k-x plus 18-55mm lens that I could take on holiday.

Ideally looking for cheapest one that would get the job done. I already have a 3.5 kg tripod for home use but this is too heavy to put in my suitcase.

Many thanks :)

Manfrotto 190 Pro XB, 1.9kg without a head, about 2.3kg with something like the 804RC2 head on it, anything much lighter is either going to be a lot more expensive (think carbon fibre) or junk....

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunatly both of these are a little pricey as I already have a £100 tripod that I'm very happy with, just not suitable for a suitcase.

Any more lower end (almost disposable) options? :) ideally less than £50. I know it won't be winning any awards but if it is small, light and works for a fortnight I'm happy :)

How about the manfrotto modo maxi 785B
weighs 0.98kg, can take 1kg according to specs and goes up to 150cm.

5 section legs means it packs small (although will take longer to set up).

Its something I'm looking at currently.

I originally ordered a Red Snapper and whilst its a great tripod it is way too heavy for my intended use.

Current thinking is the Modo Maxi.

I'm also looking for something under £100 which is portable and packs up sufficiently well to put in a rucksack alongside wild camping gear.

benro (gitzo copy) carbon fibre tripods are great, mine takes a hammering and still going strong

dc-stuffs shop on ebay

Velbon Luxi F is good but does not set you up that high..about 1 metre IIRC but very light and minimal and OK for all landscape photography apart from breezy conditions.

Pretty strudy considering its weight and size

I was looking for a lightweight travel tripod a couple months ago (I already have a Manfrotto 055, but it is too big to fit in my suitcase!) and I eventually purchased a Hama Traveller Compact Pro. It's weight is 1.4kg, and as it was fairly cheap (£35) I thought it was worth a try!

The tripod does generally feel quite budget and cheap. I used my existing ball head on it (Giottos MH1301-652) and it was able to hold my gripped Canon 5D + 24-70mm f2.8L (quite a heavy combo). The standard ball head that comes with it should be perfectly fine for your (relatively lightweight) setup. The tripod was at a comfortable eye level with the legs fully extended, but central column at it's lowest (although I am quite short!) The legs are quite thin so there is some flex, but when used in combination with self timer or remote, it works fine. In summary, it does the job and being about half the weight of the Manfrotto means it is fine to carry around all day when out and about/on holiday.

Hope this helps!

After doing a bit more reading over the past couple of days I'm sort of torn between:

- Velbon Luxi L
- Silk Sprint Pro

I'm eering towards the Silk at the moment.

Have you considered a gorilla pod? They are cheap and you can attach them to whatever you can find.

Its the only thing i take hiking now due to its extremely low weight. I've no interest in carrying an extra 3kg up a mountain.
