I was looking for a lightweight travel tripod a couple months ago (I already have a Manfrotto 055, but it is too big to fit in my suitcase!) and I eventually purchased a Hama Traveller Compact Pro. It's weight is 1.4kg, and as it was fairly cheap (£35) I thought it was worth a try!
The tripod does generally feel quite budget and cheap. I used my existing ball head on it (Giottos MH1301-652) and it was able to hold my gripped Canon 5D + 24-70mm f2.8L (quite a heavy combo). The standard ball head that comes with it should be perfectly fine for your (relatively lightweight) setup. The tripod was at a comfortable eye level with the legs fully extended, but central column at it's lowest (although I am quite short!) The legs are quite thin so there is some flex, but when used in combination with self timer or remote, it works fine. In summary, it does the job and being about half the weight of the Manfrotto means it is fine to carry around all day when out and about/on holiday.
Hope this helps!
