I've finally got my spare room emptied of boxes (3 months after moving in - quite proud of myself!!!) and now it is mainly going to be used as my editing room.

To start with I'm getting a decent black out blind to stop daylight getting in while I'm editing, but need to sort out the lighting so that is the best for editing.

From searching around the internet it seems that D50 or 5000k (how do you do a degrees sign on a PC?) is the standard to go for. However I can't seem to find any 5000k lights over here. It is all 2700, 4000 or 6500 (so called daylight). Does anyone have special lighting in their editing room?

If I do manage to find the right bulbs what about lampshades? I can't see Mrs CB liking a bare bulb

To be honest you're probably better working at around 6500K that's what I've always used. Provided your screen is matched to your viewing conditions then it should be fine. 6500K has been the standard for Graphics applications for years now and is probably nearer to the average British day than 5000K.

You can get 5000K tubes from specialist suppliers but they are expensive.

If you are going to all this trouble then i would seriously recommend you calibrate your monitor. It will make a big difference

Thanks Chappers, there's loads of options for 6500k bulbs so I thought that might be a better option. The D50 standard seems to be very US based.

I'm ordering a Spyder today too, so monitor will alo be calibrated.
