I think the word is Schadenfreude. I'm so happy for Lewis!

God damn Glock. So annoyed that arrogant self centred idiot won it :annoyed:

What, you didn't want a BRITISH World Champion, shame on you Matt

God damn Glock. So annoyed that arrogant self centred idiot won it :annoyed:

Yeah, self centred idiot like Hamilton...................and Senna.............................and Prost..................and Schumacher.......and probably every other great F1 driver there has been.

True, but they had a quality I admired. Hamilton doesnt.

And what quality was that?

Tbh, I cant really remeber the Senna era.

I loved Schumacher. He was a great driver. Fairy nuff he cheated a lot but he was great.

If Hamilton had started off in a crap car and then gone to Mclaren and then won it it would be a different story. I just think it is pathetic how he has all this publicity. He dad is a knob to.

So, objective reasons there Matt! :cuckoo:

so hang on matt, because he fell into (well fell into being the wrong word, hes worked bloody hard to get where he has, winning most championships on the way) one of the best teams on the grid and has the support of his father (as has massa-although his father seems quite quiet rob smedley does the job of talking up filipe!), the majority of the pit lane have someone in a similar way which they use for support. your somewhat down on him for it. id like to think that your dad/family would support you 100% in anything you do, as i hope my parents would for me, i cant see how you can see that as a negative,

you claim hes arrogant, and then claim to love schumacher who was argueably arogant as a driver, as fabs has mentioned so was senna and prost. to an even greater degree, senna had such conviction in his actions that he could not understand that he might ever actually be in the wrong and would never apologise for anything unless of course he was forced and cojoled into it. im sure in brazil massa gets the same treatment by the press, he can also be seen as arrogant, watch the post race interviews from valencia for senna level of arrogance where he claims that sutil shouldnt have been anywhere near him in the pitlane as he was the leader.

and the publicity, he comes into f1 and is so instantly quick, as a young man hes therefore going to get such publicity because thats what the british press do, they hype the living crap out of everyone (button being a prime example in F1, henman in tennis etc) and then kick them when they fail to deliver.

struggling to see your reasoning matt, sorry

at this point id like to point out that i do also find hamilton quite arrogant, but its not without reason, and i think that over the season the best man won, whilst massa has had some poor reliability he has also been fairly hopeless at some GPs this year, british GP being the most memorable. lewis has also made some mistakes ones hes probably not proud of (canada, france, monza). as with most of these things you cant begrudge the victor the win.

:agree:

Hamilton was signed up by McLaren when he was 10 years old and still in karts. He has had to deliver in every formula he has raced in, otherwise McLaren would have dropped him like a stone. I personally don't think he's arrogant, he just knows how good he is. That's a different thing to blind arrogance.

I suggest that the only knob here is you Matt ? Cheating you say, what was that ?, Hamilton, he has been 'working' for McLaren for a little while now, not sure if you know the history - grass roots racing, thats where he started and he battled and won his way to the top, against adversity.

Best lay off the wine gums dude.

I guarantee Matt would not say no if Hamilton invited him to get pics of his team though!!!

I think most top sportsmen can come across as arrogant because to be good they have to have a LOT of self belief and want to beat everyone else especially when the sport is high risk and the result is over a season or several months not just a meeting - plus of course you know the press will have a field day if you come second.

I think you will find that Hamilton started off in a McLaren because he had a talent that was spotted early by Ron Dennis and nurtured from there. Also in his first season in that car he finished level with the then World Champion, Fernando Alonso. This season he has trounced the reigning World Champion who is in a Ferrari, which is not too shabby as a car.

As for his apparent arrogance, he has a right to be. All the greatest sportsmen and women have a level of arrogance and when they are the best in their field that arrogance comes out even more. Just think of Senna and Schumacher in F1, McEnroe in tennis and arguably the most arrogant sportsman ever, but also probably the greatest sportsman ever, Muhammed Ali. All to often the British public slam their greatest sportsmen for arrogance, they expect them to be humble and magnanimous in their victory, maybe Hamilton should apologise to the British public for becoming a World Champion.

I think it's time all the Hamilton haters gave up on this ridiculous notion that Hamilton has no talent and is only where he is because he had help from Ron Dennis, if he had no talent it would not matter which car he drove, he would get nowhere, but he did get somewhere and he has got talent, a talent which I think will only get better in the years to come.

RANT OVER

I can see were Matt is coming from to be honest.
Last year all the "Rookie" comments got on my nerves. He'd been racing with McLaren for over a decade and was no way a rookie. The sycophantic ITV commentary also put me off him.

He is a good driver, but has gone straight into one of the best cars, is he another D Hill who only won because he was in the best car or can he last the course and still win in a poor car, only time will tell.

Good grief.

OK, lets explain motor racing - there are those that are supremely talented and never make it, because they never got the breaks or their face/attitude/etc didnt fit [Tommy Byrne for example]. There are those that lack any inate talent but learn to be pretty quick, and do the right things and ultimately get a few breaks and work bloody hard to make it to the big league [David Couthard for example], there are those that have some talent and are a modern marketing dreams that do make it, BIG time [Lewis Hamiliton for example], they work bloody hard too, yes, certain things are handed to them, they have 'front' and an ability to say exactly the right thing, but behind it all, they graft their asses off to get there! There are also those that have the same marketing dream that show only the simplest of talent [Bruno Lalle...err, sorry Senna, for example] but will sell so much advertising space, it doesnt matter how crap they are, the dollar signs are what counts. Finally, there are those that are the same as the first category, but the face fits at the time, they get the breaks and they deserve the rewards [Micheal Schumacher for example, or even better, Alain Prost]

F1 is not a sport, its a business, thats once a fortnight spends 2 hours on a sunday afternoon having a bit of a race. For the rest of the time, its all about the dollars. Don't ever forget that, because you can be sure no one in the paddock ever does.

Nobody wins the world title in a poor car. Sometimes people manage to win in a car that isn't quite the best that season, but it's still the second best car on the grid.

I don't think anybody has had 'the best car' this season. At various points this year, a Ferrari, a McLaren, a BMW or a Renault has been the thing to have. It's been a very open season IMHO.

Couldn't agree more, that's top level motorsport in a nutshell

spot on

He'd been racing with McLaren for over a decade and was no way a rookie.

yeah he was.. it was his first year. therefore he was a rookie.

at the end of the day he was a rookie team mate to the current world champion and he kept beating him.
this year he was team mate to the highly rated Kovaleinen and beat him hands down all the time.
I dont really see why people hate hamilton so much.

Schumacher was a brilliant driver but he cheated! the sad thing is he still would have been brilliant if he wasnt such a cheat!

Hamilton was very much a rookie - there is an argument to say he was a spoilt, lucky rookie, but a rookie in F1 never the less. I dont think he is Schumacher-esque in his ability, but you have to give credit where its due, he has got a lot of talent - having the fastest car is nothing if you can't actually drive it fast, consistently [ask Damon Hill].

and FWIW, I agree, MS, for me, will always be tainted, which is bad enough, but what is worse is that he could have achieved as much without the black marks and totally knocked the 'legend' of Senna into the ground - but it comes back down to my previous post, its all about the money and teams will push every boundary and sometimes break them to get the rewards.

the 'legend' of Senna...

Who was arguably as much, if not more of a cheat than MS. Japan 1990 (IIRC) anyone? Senna was quite prepared to kill people to win the world title.

Senna was just before my time, in fact it was his death [and Damon Hills subsequent elevation to team leader] that got me into F1 in the first place. However I have seen enough and heard enough to feel that the word 'legend', as often applied to him, especially due to his death induced iconic status deserves the ' and ' round the word. ;) ..... Senna was indeed gifted as a driver, but as a human being.... :suspect:

Not getting into the argument just want to say.

Congratulations Lewis !!

I was going to add a long post saying why LH deserves to have won and why I can't undertand the negativity towards him but in the end I decided just to agree with you.
So therefore :agree: :):):)

Glock lost 3 secs in sector 1, 9 secs inn sector 2 & 6 secs in the last sector.

This is almost identical to Trulli, the other slick shod Toyota, so I doubt he slowed for Hamilton.

Didn't realise that Trulli was losing the same amount of time as Glock so apologies if my initial post seemed to be "Hamilton bashing"...:(:(:(

I doubt anybody wanted him to win the championship as much as me (as I've posted in other threads)
Rob

Can you qualify your comments, even remotely? Are there "wider issues" at play here I wonder?

Who are you shouting for in the US election? And why? :) Just curious!

I am NOT a racist. Do not ever accuse me of one. Thank you.

P.S not intrested in elections.

Listen. I dont like Hamiltons attitude. I dont like is over-protective dad. I think he should have had a few more seasons before he won it. I think he should have built up to this over 5-6 seasons.

At the end of the day it is my opinion.

I never accused you of anythng, merely asked a question whch you have now answered, thanks!

His attitude is fine, he's a young guy, and the world no1 motorsport driver! His EGO is gong to explode, who can blame him? Arrogance comes with the territory.

Just think when you go out on the track for fun, remember what it feels like. Your blood pumps harder, your emotions are skewed and you will be as arrogant as he is should you win.

Gary.

Right lets end this arguement.

I respect Lewis for what he has acheived. He is British and the Number 1.

I just dont like his attitude.

End of.

Lets leave it and celebrate!! :woot:

I've never really thought of Hamilton as "arrogant"...in interviews I have seen him in he always comes across as a pretty geniune guy.
Cocky yeah, but what 22 year old isn't cocky??

Usually the cockyness gets knocked out of them by the time they reach their 30's so time is one his side.

Arrogant? Now Schusmacker (sp) was arrogant.

What argument?

Friendly discussion thats all!

Anyway, the young guy has a very bright future. Looking forward to seeing him take Schumie's record, chewing it up, and spitting it out!

I wonder if Schumacher will ever return to face Hamilton on a proffessional level. That would be awesome.

Gary.

Whatever happens, next season looks set to be a pretty good one.
We've got Massa smarting from losing, Kimi will always be there or thereabouts, Lewis trying to defend his title and some really good up and coming racers (Kubica, Vettel to name just two) in cars that are showing a definite improvement in performance.
The championship has never been so wide open.
