Tbh, I cant really remeber the Senna era.
I loved Schumacher. He was a great driver. Fairy nuff he cheated a lot but he was great.
If Hamilton had started off in a crap car and then gone to Mclaren and then won it it would be a different story. I just think it is pathetic how he has all this publicity. He dad is a knob to.

so hang on matt, because he fell into (well fell into being the wrong word, hes worked bloody hard to get where he has, winning most championships on the way) one of the best teams on the grid and has the support of his father (as has massa-although his father seems quite quiet rob smedley does the job of talking up filipe!), the majority of the pit lane have someone in a similar way which they use for support. your somewhat down on him for it. id like to think that your dad/family would support you 100% in anything you do, as i hope my parents would for me, i cant see how you can see that as a negative,

Hamilton was signed up by McLaren when he was 10 years old and still in karts. He has had to deliver in every formula he has raced in, otherwise McLaren would have dropped him like a stone. I personally don't think he's arrogant, he just knows how good he is. That's a different thing to blind arrogance.

I suggest that the only knob here is you Matt ? Cheating you say, what was that ?, Hamilton, he has been 'working' for McLaren for a little while now, not sure if you know the history - grass roots racing, thats where he started and he battled and won his way to the top, against adversity.

I think most top sportsmen can come across as arrogant because to be good they have to have a LOT of self belief and want to beat everyone else especially when the sport is high risk and the result is over a season or several months not just a meeting - plus of course you know the press will have a field day if you come second.

I think you will find that Hamilton started off in a McLaren because he had a talent that was spotted early by Ron Dennis and nurtured from there. Also in his first season in that car he finished level with the then World Champion, Fernando Alonso. This season he has trounced the reigning World Champion who is in a Ferrari, which is not too shabby as a car.
As for his apparent arrogance, he has a right to be. All the greatest sportsmen and women have a level of arrogance and when they are the best in their field that arrogance comes out even more. Just think of Senna and Schumacher in F1, McEnroe in tennis and arguably the most arrogant sportsman ever, but also probably the greatest sportsman ever, Muhammed Ali. All to often the British public slam their greatest sportsmen for arrogance, they expect them to be humble and magnanimous in their victory, maybe Hamilton should apologise to the British public for becoming a World Champion.
I think it's time all the Hamilton haters gave up on this ridiculous notion that Hamilton has no talent and is only where he is because he had help from Ron Dennis, if he had no talent it would not matter which car he drove, he would get nowhere, but he did get somewhere and he has got talent, a talent which I think will only get better in the years to come.

Nobody wins the world title in a poor car. Sometimes people manage to win in a car that isn't quite the best that season, but it's still the second best car on the grid.
I don't think anybody has had 'the best car' this season. At various points this year, a Ferrari, a McLaren, a BMW or a Renault has been the thing to have. It's been a very open season IMHO.

yeah he was.. it was his first year. therefore he was a rookie.
at the end of the day he was a rookie team mate to the current world champion and he kept beating him.
this year he was team mate to the highly rated Kovaleinen and beat him hands down all the time.
I dont really see why people hate hamilton so much.
Schumacher was a brilliant driver but he cheated! the sad thing is he still would have been brilliant if he wasnt such a cheat!

Hamilton was very much a rookie - there is an argument to say he was a spoilt, lucky rookie, but a rookie in F1 never the less. I dont think he is Schumacher-esque in his ability, but you have to give credit where its due, he has got a lot of talent - having the fastest car is nothing if you can't actually drive it fast, consistently [ask Damon Hill].
and FWIW, I agree, MS, for me, will always be tainted, which is bad enough, but what is worse is that he could have achieved as much without the black marks and totally knocked the 'legend' of Senna into the ground - but it comes back down to my previous post, its all about the money and teams will push every boundary and sometimes break them to get the rewards.

Senna was just before my time, in fact it was his death [and Damon Hills subsequent elevation to team leader] that got me into F1 in the first place. However I have seen enough and heard enough to feel that the word 'legend', as often applied to him, especially due to his death induced iconic status deserves the ' and ' round the word.
..... Senna was indeed gifted as a driver, but as a human being....

Listen. I dont like Hamiltons attitude. I dont like is over-protective dad. I think he should have had a few more seasons before he won it. I think he should have built up to this over 5-6 seasons.

His attitude is fine, he's a young guy, and the world no1 motorsport driver! His EGO is gong to explode, who can blame him? Arrogance comes with the territory.
Just think when you go out on the track for fun, remember what it feels like. Your blood pumps harder, your emotions are skewed and you will be as arrogant as he is should you win.

Whatever happens, next season looks set to be a pretty good one.
We've got Massa smarting from losing, Kimi will always be there or thereabouts, Lewis trying to defend his title and some really good up and coming racers (Kubica, Vettel to name just two) in cars that are showing a definite improvement in performance.
The championship has never been so wide open.
