Hi,

I currently own a 350D with a 18 to 55 mm USM lens which is idea for landscapes. I also find its good for studio work (I'm only at beginners level).

With my previosu SLR I has a Sigma 28-300mm lens, which I found useful for taking pictures at motor racing events. As Canon and Sigma didn't communicate well on how things would work, this lens no longer works on my DSLR - it always over exposes, and when manually set to under expose it still comes up a bit too white.

I am therefore looking for a lens which will enable me to do close up shots at motor racing events, the farnborough airshow (this week) and any nature type things which aren't that close. I was thinking of a canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 USM MK3.

Has anyone got any other suggestions? I know I will have a gap between 55 and 75mm but I don't think I will use that enough to worry about it at the moment.

Thanks for any help and advice.

I think it depends on how much you want to spend.

On the 'bang for buck' scale, I can heartily recommend teh Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro (not the earlier non DG version).

I got mine from Onestop-Digitial in Hong Kong last year for £115.

Thanks for your replies. I was tempted by that one as it fits in the £200 budget

Is there much dirrecence between the Sigma 70-300 DG APO Macro and the Canon 75-300 USM lens?

yep, agree, the with the above, the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro is a cracking lens. especially for the money:thumbs:

yup its a cracker, my one won me a canon g5

75-300 usm IS is better :naughty: ;)

If the sigma is anything like my 70-200 it'll be just fine :)

My speedway pics on the photo sharing thread were taken with the Sigma mentioned by Marcel and others. TBH for speedway now I rarely use anything else. A cracking lens IMO - far superior in quality and operation to it's predecessor (Sigma 100-300mm f4.5-6.7). For what it's worth, as and when I upgrade to the 70-200L IS and TC, I shall definately still be keeping the Sigma in the kit bag. :)
