Yes
A stokie legend. (No, not that simpering one from the boy band) ...has snuffed it at a whisker past 70. I still can't believe he made it to 70 to be honest.

Thanks for the heads up - yes, amazing to have made it so far, though I suspect he was a bit less extreme than, say, Keef in lifestyle.

Expected but what a trooper!

Listen to Motorhead at least every couple of days

Lemmy was chucked out of hawkwind for doing too many drugs...I think that says it all!

I remember going to see Motorhead at King George's Hall in Blackburn in the 70's

I first saw Lemmy when he was with Hawkwind. I was at the Brixton Sundown on 30 December 1972 for their live Space Ritual set. I was 17!
To this day I still think it was the best 'live' gig I have ever witnessed and more than anything the sound laid down by Dave Brock supported by Lemmy on bass was the defining moment of all that is great with those instruments.

I have the album from that night (Space Ritual Live - taken from Brixton 30/12 and Liverpool 31/12 1972). Worn out 3 vinyl double albums and bought the CD edutions and remasters 4 times.

I have followed Hawkwind and Motorhead (from 1975) ever since. Not many of tbe original members of Hawkwind left.

I feel old tonight but did listen to Born to Go by Hawkwind and Ace of Spades for the memory.

Will crank up the HiFi in the morning and will close my eyes and will return to a day literally just under 43 years ago........ I will be back in Brixton and it will be 30 December 1972 and the bass will be 'fluid' and a 6 foot tall naked dancer call Stacia will be next to Lemmy.

Cheers mate!

ps... for those wondering the Brixton Sundown was once the Odean Brixton and my venue for Saturday morning pictures as a kid living in Stockwell.

For the nemory - Dec 1972 and Lemmy with his Rickenbacker

I have a feeling Lemmy did way more speed than Keef did coke!

Close but not quite true, it was because he was busted in Canada prior to the USA tour hence costing the band the USA tour as they had to cancel it.

Just seen the very sad news. He found out he had Cancer on the 26th Dec, and died two days later. :(

I can't say I'm a fan of his music, and found him quite scary as a child, but a real character of Rock 'n' Roll has passed. I watched a documentary about him earlier in the year, and he was a very interesting person, and not as scary as I imagined as a child. ;) He seemed to do things his own way, and there will be many stories of exploits I'm sure, as the documentary only scratched the surface. ;)

He was an avid collector on knives and militaria amongst other things according to the documentary. He was estranged from his son growing, but had forged a relationship in latter years. There is an amazingly touching moment the doc, when with his son sitting beside him, he is asked what was the most important thing in his home was, and I think the intention was to find out what he valued in his collection, but without batting an eye he said 'my son'. The look on his son's face was very touching as he obviously didn't expect that answer.

Now I said I wasn't a fan of his music, but, The Ace of Spades will stand the test of time as truly classic song. And I'm sure every musician would like a song to be remembered long after they are gone, and for Lemmy, and Motorhead, that song will be remembered forever. :notworthy:

If you get the chance to see the documentary please do, as it is a very good one.

BBC Obituary.

Gutted. Old school rocker. Given a lot of listening pleasure over the years. RIP fella.

As far as I'm concerned rock and roll has died. Lemmy invented it and he's taken it with him. An absolute legend.

Told on boxing day he had aggressive cancer. At least he didn't suffer long. RIP

Was that the time he was busted and charged for coke but got off because it was amphetamines? IIRC he couldn't be recharged under some sort of double jeopardy rule.

Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and, departing, leave behind us, footprints on the sands of time.

Not a great man in the usual sense but great nevertheless, cheers Lemmy. RIP

the word legend is bandied about far too easy nowadays......but not in this case,he was larger than life , he was rock and roll....im gutted he has gone i thought he was immortal, but i'm glad he went fast like he did, it would of been terrible to think he died slowly and lingered

RIP brother

Totally gutted. The only real 'celeb' hero I ever had.

I remember seeing Motorhead for the first time on a German telly programme when I was staying with a family there when I was at school. I had always been looking for some music that really stirred me. Seeing them doing 'No Class' blew my socks off and I was an instant fan and have been ever since.

'Bad Magic' on loud for a few days and hit the JD.

Was never a Motörhead fan, but big repsect for Lemmy a true legend of rock. RIP mate, I guess you get to rock with Phil once again.

I heard a theory once that if there was a nuclear holocaust, the only living things which would survive it would be cockroaches, and Lemmy. It comes as a great shock, and a great pity, to learn that he was not in fact indestructible and immortal.

Apparently folk are petitioning for Brittania Bridge (over the Menai Straits) to be renamed "Lemmy Bridge" after his time growing up on Anglesey, in a village called Benllech.

I can't see it happening but it's a nice gesture.

Incidently, apparently Lemmy didn't enjoy his school days on Anglesey, being the only non-Welsh speaker it couldn't have been easy. There is a funny story about his time there though, which he recalled in an interview with the North Wales Daily Post:

Lemmy said:
“I was 13 and living in Benllech and I knew this guy called Tom who had a prosthetic arm.

“One night we sneaked into this Girl Guides camp and, you know, started getting down to business.

“So there I am bathing in the soft after-glow in some girl’s tent when, all of a sudden, I hear ‘Whack! Ow! Whack! Ow!’.

“I thought, ‘what the bloody hell is that’? and looked out to see Tom running naked down the road with this Guide mistress belting him over the head with his own false arm!”

:D

Would that count as armed assault ? Haha

Charge your glasses. The live stream of his memorial service starts any minute.

That was truely emotional

I liked him a lot and its sad he popped off, but to be fair he made 70 with his lifestyle, blimmin heck :-)

Next weekend I will be back in Huddersfield and will dig my motorhead T out for a wear.

Love that! :D

He'd probably rather it had been snaggletoothed rather than blunt toothed (and that's the truth)...
