Yes
One of the Mitsubishi EVO Interceptors has crashed near the top of my road, and I'd like to know if I can legally walk near to it and take some photo's.

There is not police tape up or anthing, just the coppers standing around the car.

Thanks.

I'd Be Inclined to go and shoot some pics anyway. I'm sure they'd let you know if they didn't want you to :D

Public place, no reason not to although depending on their mood the coppers might play the security issue card. Probably best to approach with a smile first and see what mood they're in. Cup of tea would probably work wonders too

just remember to get them to sign a model release :p

You are perfectly entitled to take photographs, so no reason why you shouldn't, although they aren't likely to be best pleased when you do so, as others have said, perhaps a jovial approach may work best.

use a dirty big zoom lens and hide in the bushes. Just don't hold it at waist height :D

If its on a public road you can shoot to your hearts content and if they do ask you to move away ask how far then pop on a longer lens they cant do anything legally:lol:

Technically they can stop you, if they deem you to be breaching security, which if they don't want you to take the photo is probably the card they'll play!

Give it a bash though, they can only ask you to stop!

Already tried that, didn't have my tripod with me. so its a bit blurred. and thats at ISO1600 lol.

But be prepared for the police to make up their own laws and threaten you with them.

 They may well appreciate it!

A few months ago, one of their Impreza's ended up on it's roof in a field (no-one hurt). I know a paramedic from Essex who attended the scene. Told me they've now got a photoshopped pic in the parade room of them all lined up with the cars and the chopper. The Subaru is shown upside down...

Chicken, you were stood miles away!

A while ago, Local plod pulled a motorist over in their unmarked Skoda. I just walked up with my camera took a few photos then walked off, he never said a word, just looked at me strange.

You should have walked up with the nifty 50 on, took a couple of shots and said " that'll T cut right out" then walked off before they had a chance to reply

or asked which section of Roadcraft advocated using the car in front as an auxiliary brake ;)

Never mind. send what you have to essex chronicle. at the very least they might run a story even if they don't use a photo... ;)

Get another, without the bollards, and cheekily ask the coppers if they could give you a statement - then you can write the article for your local rag too :)

See below. I would definately play that card too if I was a cop.

But in such a situation you could take the risk of firing off a lot of shots and when they ask you to stop, you stop. But if they start telling you to delete demand a court order and then charge them with obstruction of justice by attempting to destroy photographic evidence!

nothign to stop you solong as you don't interfer with their duty

No wonder our council tax keeps going in in Essex, if they can't control these cars

What security? They certainly can't use the prevention of terrorism act as that only extends to 'predefined' areas, and I'm betting that public road isn't one ;)

I would have expected them to try and make up their own interpretation of the laws though, but as long as you aren't interfering with their duty, then you're perfectly entitled to, just like theyre entitled to film you being 'questioned' for these police shows ;)

Usually they will try and claim that you are committing a breach of the peace by photographing them, that way they can arrest you for it :police:

LOL. This an embarrassing situation for the cops concerned but there's no law whatsoever to prevent you taking shots of the car. Most sensible cops would treat you taking the shots with good humour, but you're always going to meet the odd one who'll resent it and try to prevent you. There's no way they can play the Breach Of The Peace card, as coppers are deemed (rightly or wrongly) to have sufficient self control that a BOTP cannot be occassioned just because something is happening which they disapprove of.

If there were members of the public at the scene objecting to the shots being taken it wouild be a different matter, but let's face it - that's unlikely.:D

Now I never knew that coppers couldn't play the BOTP card as the ones likely to react causing a BOTP...if you see what I mean.

Nope they can't Bodders. They can't be insulted either, as in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. :D

I was once on the side of the canal engaged in a search which had gone on all night for a missing child. At first light they called in the underwater guys as a canal ran along the back of the estate. A local freelance tog who monitored all the police transmissions was at the scene. One of the divers, suddenly reached down into the brown water and came up with the body of the child. An absolutely awful moment, and thankfully members of the child's family had just left the scene. At this point the tog tried to take pics of the body, but was prevented by a group of angry cops who blocked his view. No respectable publication would have printed the shots anyway.

Had the parents been at the scene or members of the public, said tog would have been in the cells in no time flat, but cops can't get sufficiently upset. ;)

I'd have sat the camera on top of one of the bollards or on the floor for the classic low angle, lens propped up with anything to get the right angle.

2 second timer, mirror lock up ISO 400 - low shutter speed to blur the moving coppers (they would be moving towards you)

BOSH - Perfectly legal.

Really? Or was that a bit of sarcasm :p (Im rubbish at being able to tell)

As has been said before it is public place.

Pete

Nice shot. Poor Evo though. The cop must of been doing something wrong big time because an Evo generally goes exactly where you point it. He must of pointed it at a wall and forgot the middle pedal bit .
