over in the US right now, just over the $4k mark.

D700 dropped $300 last week.

Anyone would think a "D3X" was coming ;)
 
Well, I don't know what that says about the speculation surrounding the "D3X's" niche.
Surely if the D3X is spec'd as a studio cam, it would have little effect on D3 or D700 prices.

unless ofcourse.....that was all a load of tripe..:)

more symptomatic of the increasingly weak yen/strong dollar IMO. Canon and Nikon prices in Canada are increasing by 15-17% this month and Canadian dealers have been forced to cancel their 5d2 orders and reorder at higher prices.

Combine that with the global slowdown in consumer spending it's no surprise to see prices drop on top on the obvious that will happen to allow positioning of the new body(s).
 
Same as D700, that dropped $300 to the equivalent (current) value of the UK price of £1550

4000 U.S. dollars = 2500 British pounds

That's what it costs in the UK as we speak. Doubt either the D3 or D700 will drop in costs (in the UK) any further. Unless you know something we don't :)
 
I reckon Nikon is going to want to put a clear £1k of daylight between the "D3X" and the D3 MKII (D3s?), my guess for the "D3X" is £3300.

I think the D700 will come under price pressure for the Canon 5D MKII.

I paid £1665 for my D700 from RGBTech
My Canon 5D MKII order is at £1775 from RGBTech

I think the D700 will be at £1499 soon-ish.
 
I see that RGB Tech have closed the pre-order book and aren't expecting it to open before Feb 2009.

Will there be a D3 MkII? No obvious need and they'd be better off spending the effort on the higher-res bodies. It's still only a year old.

Everywhere else is still holding the 5DII at £2100-2300, so if RGB can't supply them at £1775 it's an academic price-point.
 
I don't see the issue.
All the Nikon boys have spent the last few months telling us that more pixels than the D700 are pointless and simply add unnecessary noise. Assuming that to be the case, the D3x has no real market to sell to, so it'll die a death.
 
There's talk that D3 supplies are drying up, to the suppliers.
Dunno if its linked to the current economic climate, or Nikon are having to move D3 production away from all three little old ladies with athritis and chuck them on to some new body's...:shrug:

I dropped into Digital Depot yesterday to see if I could try out that 80-400 lens we were talking about a few weeks back. As it happens they didn't have one in for me to try, but they did confirm that there was a new AFS version due sometime soon, but they didn't know if it would be before or after the new camera release from Nikon - expected to be........ a D3X ;)

I'm surprised they know about it yet... but yes this is coming as I posted a few days back, but I don't think it'll be before Q1 next year.

A new body is certainly coming.. but I don't think it'll be called the D3X. The body I've seen was logo-less but clearly a Nikon body with an FF sensor.
 
Interesting.

I would have thought that Nikon may be experiencing stock issues possibly, prices always seem to drop when stock is unavailable. and then rise when in short supply.

The D3 is still quite a young camera and Canon doesn't really have a rival body that matches it for FPS, ISO and FF together in one body.

Wouldn't Nikon continue promoting D3 sales until Canon brings out the 1DmkIIII for example?

Also, I'm one for expecting the D3X as a higher res studio type body and not the D3's upgrade. It seems to make more sense but then again I am just assuming stuff here. :thinking:
 
I'm 99% certain that a D3 MKII (D3s?) is going to come alongside the "D3X".
 
I've hob-nobbed by proxy (hob-nobbin with a hob-nobber!), but not directly.

Although the D3s is just a guess ;)

I do think the upgrade to the D3 itself might get a sniff from me but not until my D3 falls apart!
 
I like it'll have a bigger buffer and a faster Liveview capture rate. 30fps would be useful to add video capability. Maybe sensor cleaning?

A bigger buffer costs pence to add, sensor cleaning is in the D700, and I think video should be easy to add.

None of these would be worth upgrading from a D3 IMHO, but will help prolong shelf life - a mid-life "kick" if you will, which it might need due to the Canon 5d MKII. It would allow them to hold or increase the price.

But this is just speculation, I don't "know" anything here!

Speculate all you like mate, there's no harm in it.

The buffer issue I will actually address with my camera I reckon, a mate of mine who shoots sports for a newspaper here recommends it too, the paper ordered surgery on all the in house D3 bodies, I wouldn't have bothered my self but after yesterday's shoot I'm considering it.

sorry, missed you posting that..... he definitely knew all about it, except for when it would be released. He suggested possibly in time for christmas, but more likely early spring

he was much less sure about the camera, he knew about it being on its way, but was rather more cagey when it came to what it was going to be called and what it was going to do - it was his assumption that it was going to be a D3x, and I wonder if it was guess work on his part when he said he was expecting a mega high pixel version of the D3
 
I'd be tempted to by one again at that price.

I lost money selling my first one, but if I can buy one for less than £1500 I'm even again!

You can get it from Dixon Duty Free for less than £1500 already, so could just book a 1p RyanAir flight!

Just out of interest - what made you sell your first D700? Move to D3?
 
I want the D700's sensor in the D60's body.

Failing that, the Canon 5D MKII will do the job (for now!)
 
Im confused:thinking: Is the D700 any good for landscapes? I know the canon 5d is used by many photographers shooting landscapes with great results, but is the D700 upto the job like the 5d?
 
Nope not at all. Its interesting hearing your thoughts between the D60 and D700, considering the huge price gap between them. Makes me a lot happier with my D80 lasting me even longer now.

Just to make things clear, I'm NOT saying the D60 is better than the D700!

However I look at how the prints turn out, and 12 megapixel FX offers no real print size advantage over 10 megapixel DX, especailly with the D60's super-sharp sensor. The price difference doesn't show up in print (or print size).

Really when it comes down to it, for low ISO shooters, the current D700 sensor offers no advantage really, which is why its just fine, but I can see no compelling reason to pick one over a DX for printed output.

All I need in a camera is "A" mode and a shutter button and I'm good to go, there are actually very few "features" I really need in all honesty.

So where does the D200 sit in amongs all this as I am new to this model having had D1 and D2H and now the D200

Well I had a D200 and moved to a Fuji S5 Pro pair.

Having said that due to its superb ISO100 performance its still an excellent landscape camera, although the AA filter is a tad strong.

I think the 10 megapixel sensor is at its best in the D60, its been refined, weaker AA filter (so sharper) and its got very good dynamic range (not as good as the D700 for DR).

Sorry to butt in, however after 6-9 months of recession top quality gear will start dropping like a stone. Right now this phenomenon might just be starting with Land Rover (today) selling next to no Range Rovers etc with acres of the things parked up not moving, but believe me this will trickle down to relatively puny things like 2-4K camera bodies, in fact you could see some pros selling off gear as the gloom and doom advances.

OK call me a doom merchant, but in 6-9 months time if you actually have any credit (oops sorry they will require cash) left, no matter how great the latest bit of gear is, it will be a lot CHEAPER and maybe after that R&D investment in producing the latest and greatest high end gear will drop off and nice stuff becomes rare and subsequently starts to realise an increased price.

Am I an economist...definately not. Do I know anything that you don't definately NOT....

However wanna take a bet on this? I will. If you have any money NOW, WAIT 6-9 months if you can....

My 2 cents worth.. :naughty:
 
The price of the D3 in Japan has dropped 15% over the last week.

# Something not called a D3x: probably announced in late 2008, but certainly announced in early 2009 and shipped by the March timeframe.

* D3-type body, new Nikon FX high resolution sensor
* At least 24mp
* 5fps
* If this is indeed in the D3 body as I expect, then I will also predict a D700-type body version of it about a year afterwards; Nikon likes using sensors in more than one body
