Laptops with simcards and cf card slots?

…still dreaming? Me too!

I have never seen a laptop with a CF card slot for years.............I do have a laptop with a sim card slot

just get a usb card reader ......usually much faster than a slot (y)

I have two, one is a Dell Mini 9 and the other is a Dell E7440

Cf is just too big, why would anyone create a cf laptop when you can just use a micro sd?

Plenty of those about.

It's just very old technology.

To me the same thing with build in sim car, tethering via phone is much more flexible. But you can still buy those solutions.

I bought an 'Integral' USB card reader from Amazon very cheaply earlier this year for a second-hand 2003 Canon Powershot that I found in a charity shop for a fiver! It takes a 1 GB (max) CF card.

Yesterday, in Poundland, I noticed USB card readers for (surprise, surprise!) £1.00!

My 2 HP laptops have slots for the smaller SD/SDHC cards.

Is there a gap in the market that could be filled by a niche manufacturer / reseller?

For photographers, surely the ideal solution could be a laptop which:
1. Has a high resolution screen which can be calibrated
2. Has hdmi out (dont they all now?) for display on an external screen
3. Has CF / SD / MicroSD / XF slots to accept cards from a wide range of cameras
4. Decent Battery life
5. Large drive plus a second spindle to guard against drive failure.
6. Yadda Yadda... High spec to run CC etc. quickly.

I suspect you can get most of this seperately (not the card support though), but has anyone seen all of this in a portable solution?

I agree with the other posters that a built in CF reader is too niche for any manufacturer to include. When you can buy a simple USB card reader for a few £'s it doesn't make sense when people want laptops thinner and lighter. All of the spec above is available from pretty much any existing manufacturer other than maybe as much screen calibration as a dedicated external monitor.

And you forget looking good, lightweight and portable yadda yadda.

Maybe I'm alone, but I carry a laptop bag anyway, and in that is a tiny little usb3 device which is called a card reader.

Everything else is just a standard top end laptop.

Heh, me too (the card reader).
I'm not so sure that you'll get easily calibrated screens on most laptops (even high end) and I've not seen a dual spindle laptop in an age. Mind you, a few usb flash drives would more than make up for that.

I guess you're right, things have moved on.

It is amazing how things have moved on...I've put a 128GB micro sd card in my laptop for automatic backups, its quicker than an additional hard drive used to be  Files are being transferred wirelessly etc...

Most workstation level laptops have dual drives but as they add weight it's not normally a standard feature on lighter machines. It's easy enough to switch out the internal DVD drive with a HDD caddy on most laptops too.

Personally I wouldn't like laptops that have build in optical media...I would class them as luggable less so portable....The space that is required for such an absolute medium is ridiculous in my opinion....
