It may (or may not - just to save myself from litigation;)), have been facilitated by the governing body in cycling, the UCI, who may have inexpilcably forgotten to test him, or may even have mislaid some of his samples - who knows what happened:shake:
 
I'm watching the confession now. It feels like something so monumental for the sport, but I can't quite put a finger on the emotions I'm feeling.
 
Interesting to see if he faces perjury charges.
 
I wonder if Oprah and Lance shared drug use stories together?
 
Put Nicole Cooke in charge of cycling, he'll get what he deserves then. It's about time more sports people past AND present stopped pussy footing around and came out and said these drug cheats are thieves and scum and should be banned for life, the list of sportsmen and women who are condoning drug cheats by their silents is far too long, and it's shameful .

All the people and papers he sued and cheated out on money should be refunded by him, then he should be sent to prison for perjury, and after that never be given a single second or column inch of media time and space.
 
The whole interview felt somewhat surreal. It felt as though for everything Lance admitted to, there was something else that he was avoiding. Like telling 50% of the truth would protect him from having to admit the whole truth. In that regard I don't think Oprah did a terribly good job as interviewer. The entire thing was controlled and orchestrated by Lance and she was just doing no more than asking question like any of use could.

The most striking thing for me was the lack of remorse and the utter disregard he showed towards those he sued, knowing full well they were right and he was lying.

That said, it does feel like he's being made a scapegoat for a generation of dirty sport. It doesn't matter if you came first or last, if you doped along the way you're a disgusting cheat and deserve to be banned for life. All these 2 year bans, amnesty for whistleblower stuff is pathetic. Furthermore, there's a culture in cycling that makes it unacceptable to speak out about those you know to have doped. That needs to change. Withholding knowledge of someone doping ought to be punishable as well as doping itself.

One of the parts that intrigued me was the 2009-2010 test that he was adamant he hadn't doped during despite the test result.

As much as it's the riders' fault for doping, the UCI and USADA also has to look at itself. I remember saying here that regardless of the outcome of their investigation, they can't come out of this looking good. It's taken them too long, and they've pinned down too few athletes. It makes you wonder just how much they've missed past and present.
 
I so need to see this interview although it would probably do my head in. The guys has done a lot for charity which makes it harder to outright hate the cheat.
 
As a person who doesn't have much interest in watching other people play sport the whole scandal seems a bit surreal to me.

Why not just let people use performance enhancing drugs if they want to. If everyone is allowed to then it's "fair". Lots of sports people do damage to their bodies through exessive training anyway, but that's their choice.

Because of the money involved...it would become lawless and no doubt result in more deaths (mafia style hits too) than that has already happened through drug taking.

Well I have never been a fan of Oprah but she certainly got stuck into him which was good to see
I think he comes across as a totally vile individual ruin-ing countless careers through his lying and cheating

and I really hope all the people 'wronged' by him really take him to the cleaners

I believe he is only doing these interviews with Oprah as a PR stunt to worm his way back in to cycling management etc
I hope he dissapears into a hole somewhere such is my dislike for him

She missed opportunity after opportunity, no wonder he chose her and not Walsh, Kimmage or Paxman.
Haven't seen part 2 yet but where were the apologies to Betsy, Lemond, Sunday Times etc etc etc

As for Livestrong, dig a little deeper....Lets start with "commercialise cancer"

Agreed, it all seemed a little bit staged to me and hand picked questions so as not to scratch too hard.
 
I know that when I find out a world-renowned, internationally acclaimed sporting figure of God-like status is destroyed by evidence of endemic, systematic cheating in sports, the first person I want him grilled by is OPRAH!

She's a vile, cynical, morbidly obese ratings vacuum who has no business asking questions on behalf of the sporting community and the bodies that police it.

Thank you for putting that into words for me.

It helps to explain why a man who we know to be a cheat, a liar and a bully, and who we suspect to be a blackmailer, a perjurer and a crook, is getting air time.

I hope he reaps what he sowed.

The ironic thing is that he's getting air time for exactly the same reason that we have a 9 page thread about his doings - becauise people are interested.

Perhaps we should practice what we preach, ask the mods to lock this thread, and have no further discussion of lance the loser on TP

But why should threads be locked?

Discussions are exactly that, new evidence/talking points occur all the time and if the only thing good to come out of this thread is the education about drugs use in sport then so be it.

Lance Armstrong will gain nothing from this thread.
 
my point was that the reason he gets air time is exactly the same as the reason he's talked about here - so its pretty hypocritical to be condeming one while doing the other.

if people are serious about not giving him and his pathetic self justification the oxygen of publicity , the answer is simple - stop talking about it and don't read/watch/ or listen to anthing that does - expunge the cheating lowlife from your conciousness

But you are missing the point that the more he is shamed (and anyone involved in any cover up) the better it is for sport and lastly the Livestrong charity, so we do need to keep it alive. For the sheer hard work David Walsh (and others) did in pursuing this for so long, they deserve all our help to keep this in the public domain and crush anyone who was involved.
 
he's not ashamed (if you watch the oprah interview hes saying 'everyone was doing it, i was just levelling the playing feild') - the worst sentence for an attention seeking publicity whore is obscurity, not keeping his misdeeds in the public eye
 
Spare a thought for his 13 year old son who grew up thinking his father was a hero, a roll model, a sporting icon. .....then finding out his father was living a lie, how vile is that.
