Lady Sue's 52 ART AND RELAXATION Page 16

Hi Sue, it's obvious you lacked inspiration this week. Of the two shots the second is better, but they lack any real focal point.

:agree: I'm afraid Sue :(
The second one has potential though, the green of the field is on a third, if you could bring that tree on the right hand side in so it is on a third too it may balance the image. Iain

Thanks for the comment Iain. I am not sure how I could bring that tree in so it was on a third- unless I did a heavy crop ( ooh a pun- crop /wheat lol ). I think I will just have to write this week off and maybe do a reshoot when one comes up again.

Hi Sue, I love your alpaca and pelican shots. You have got so much detail in the feathers and the colour of the sky and sea is stunning.

I agree with the others about this week's shots. The first is a bit dark and on the second it is a pity that the tree is not a bit further over.

Thank you Jenny. I should have made more of an effort with this weeks shot. I actually went out planning to take photos of wheat, chickens and cows and was going to say they provided the ingredients for a pancake. But despite driving round the countryside I couldnt find any cows! What a shame, not for my 52, but because it shows how much of our dairy farming has been lost because of cheap milk imports.

Sorry for pinching Jenny's comment but says what I feel too....the alpaca and pelicans shots are super!

4 strong images and it works well as a quadtych (if thats a word)

Hi Sue,
Looks like we had almost the same idea. Not an easy subject this time.
Regards,

David.

Thank you Darren. I dont know what four is.

Yes I saw your picture David. Hope you enjoy doing the 52

I would say that you have been original with the way you have put theses together. I guess the odd one out is the traffic light as the rest are railway orientated?

Thanks Chris. You are right too.

Sue

An interesting idea - I wonder if it is a good excuse for the much-maligned selective colouring treatment?

Phil

Sue to me the traffic lights are out of place in this shot, the other three images are railway orientated. I think that the railway shots would be stronger as a triptych.

Allan

I meant it to be like that Allan. Thats why I called it "odd one out"

Hi Sue, this says stop to me more than any of the others this week. In fact, it says it 4 times! Well done.

Jenny

Thank you Jenny

I did think about doing that with the reds but I would obviously have to take the blue sign out. I quite like selective colouring myself.Might give it a go this evening.

Nice idea, and I agree with Allan that a triptych might have been better with the railway shots.

However it's a strong "Stop" collection and it works very well.

Ian.

I nominate No.2 as the odd one out - but all 4 really do work well together as a set. (Ooops - just saw that I was beaten to it. Should have read the other comments first)
Very creative idea for this week.

You've posted so many since I last managed to stop in here, but I have to pick out your alpaca shot as one of my favourites. That really made me smile.
I love the second ingredients shot too - so much texture in that wheat. I think maybe a lower angle might have improved it, but it still works well just the way that it is.

Not too keen on either of the ingredients shot Sue... I get what you were aiming at with the first on the darkness, but it's not worked for me... I agree about the tree in the second one, perhaps a portrait crop of the right hand end would achieve it. It's a better image though...

Stop... now, that's got it... much better, a very nicely put together set, that all say stop... it took me a few minutes (being very slow today) to work out the odd one out :D... but I got there before reading the other comments.. I too wonder if selective colouring would work... leave the sign blue though... and get a second odd one out :D...

Thank you John. I might get round to doing some pp on the stop photos- maybe some selective colouring. I dont know if it would work with red and blue.

Great Image for Stop. I was going to get a picture of a stop sign and leave it at that as I was clueless for a while...but using for images makes this week a strong entry :)

Thanks Stephen. There is actually at least two possible odd ones out. It could be the traffic lights- road not railway or it could be the stop, look listen which is aimed at pedestrians not vehicles. Its just a bit of fun.No prizes.:D

A nice psychological theme this week and I knew straight away what I wanted and then spent several days looking for a suitable shot.

I thought of how isolated you could feel even in a crowd, especially if you were different. I chose this picture because the pink campion is smaller as well as being a different colour. The crowd of daisies look quite overbearing.

I liked this photo too but thought that althought the poppy was isolated it looked proud.

Comments and critique appreciated

Good thinking! That first image fits the bill very well.

For me the 1st image says ISOLATION a lot more than the 2nd.
As above its a shame theres such a gap between the two

Another vote for #1 Sue. You have captured a real summery feel in this image, it says isolation to me. I like the colours and composition too. I am undecided about the gap as mentioned above. I think it adds a little something to the image in that the daisies are surrounding and isolating the pink flower. Well done Iain

Thank you Charlie

the first image is great, and absolutely isolated. its a pity there is a large gap between the daisy's and the campion, could you get down a bit lower?

Thank you Chris. I know what you mean by the gap but there is no way I can get down lower. My body says "no"

Thanks Darren. As above I couldnt get any lower due to my disability. I was just lucky the flowers were on a bank so I was able to get a bit below them.

Thank you Iain. It had been a bit of a wet cloudy day out but the sun came out on my way home and thats when I got this shot.

Another vote for the first Sue, it's very much on theme, and the little pink flower looks so isolated. I'm thinking the gap enhances that, and removing the gap between the campion and the daisys would make it look less isolated.

Ingredients...Great idea to shoot ingredients as they are growing in a field, 2 very nice shots but out of the 2 I would go with the first with the hint of yellow in the distance.

Stop...Another great idea to show 4 very good reasons why you should STOP!!!

Isolation....Out of the 2 Sue I think the second one works better as the popppy does look isolated where as in the first the purple flower just looks the odd one out.

Thank you John. I didnt think it would help to make it closer but accept that ours is the minority view.:)

I like the second picture too but thought the poppy looked too pleased with itself. :) Also I wanted to show that being the odd one out can make you feel isolated even when there are plenty of others around.

Exactly what I thought - great idea, nice looking shot, if only there was less gap between the two...

Phil

Stop - this works very well with an good variety of shapes and colours. Put together they are much more interesting than any one on its own.

Isolation - I like this very much and think the angle works well. My eye scans from top to bottom, so that the little campion at the bottom almost comes as a surprise, and certainly seems isolated. The gap only reinforces this feeling. Well done!

Thank you. I liked the isolation theme but I didnt really feel inspired by stop. I wonder what we will get today?
Sue

Definitely agree on the first one being the strongest Sue.
I really do like that splash of pink against all the white and green. And I'm with you and John on the gap between the flowers - it adds to the feeling of isolation.

My only criticism is that the campion appears a little too low in the frame. I think you could have afforded to lose a little bit of sky from the top and include just a touch more foreground to give it a bit more balance.

Thank you Sara. I just looked at the original shot I took and I dont have any more foreground. This is just as I took it so I cant do anything with it. I enjoyed taking pictures of flowers for this week so maybe I will go back and see if I can get a better one. On the other hand now I need to find a "quality" shot.

Vote for image it certainly does feel isolated even though crowded, good work for the theme
