Lady Sue's 52 ART AND RELAXATION Page 16

To steal Dade's word, it's another vote for the "chick-tych"

The way that the chicken's are "guarding" those eggs, almost like a pair of book ends gives a good sense of balance.
The 3x3 square just needs a bit more coherence running through the images for it to really work for me.
Just my opinion, but I think that both chicken shots could benefit from a touch more contrast and bit of sharpening

p.s. Good recovery on the police shot.
Do you have "shadows and highlights" functions on your editing software. They can be helpful for getting some distinction and detail back.

Sarah
Thank you for your really helpful comments as always. I have looked and I dont seem to have "shadows and highlights". I only have an old version of Photoshop Elements. One day maybe I will be able to get better software but for now I am just trying to learn about the stuff I have got. I have finally worked out how to do layers these last few weeks so that is giving me more potential.
I'm having a really bad time with the rest of my life at the moment so am using my photography as an escape.

QUAD- 4 sentries

Ok. I havent been able to think of a good picture for Quad so, as I dont want to get behind, I have chosen these meercat pictures I took at the zoo the week of the Quad theme.I would have liked to get all 4 facing forward but never mind.

Simples! Nice, different, subject for a quad-tryc. shame 2 are in the shade as the 2 in the sun / light are real crackers!

Sue, I really like this one. I don't think it matters that they are not all facing forward. It is much more realistic as it is. They are such cute little creatures and it makes for a really good take on the theme. Well done.

I hope things start looking up for you soon. It is nice to have a hobby like this to keep your mind off other things.

Jenny

Aaaah - cute shots! Like it!

Thanks. I would have liked to have all 4 in the sun but I was just lucky to get them outside that day as it rained most of the time I was there.

Thanks. I really wanted to get photos of meercats

Aaaah - cute shots! Like it!

Phil

Thanks Phil.

very cool, always alert!

Yes. They have one on duty most of the time, but not when they were being fed. Security seemed to take second place then.

Thanks for all the comments
Sue

I am off to Australia in the next few days, probably Monday, so I will probably do my "shoot" next week as I havent thought what to do yet. I will be able to keep in touch with TP at my parents house in Perth as I bought them a computer last time I visited them.
Sue

A great idea Sue, it works very well... It's a bit of a shame about the lighting variations, but the layout makes the best of it..

Have a safe journey and a great time in Australia

Love the meercats, original presentation idea too - Have fab time in Australia, safe journey.

Thank you both.
Sue

He-he, they're sooooooo cool.
As others have said it's a real pity about the light but I like the way you've alternated them, I think it works very well.

I like it - I like the way the colours in the post contrast with the rest of the scene. I think a crop to make the pelicans larger relative to the frame would improve it further.

Phil

Great to see you on here Sue. I wasn't sure that you'd have internet on your trip.

As Phil said the colours work brilliantly in this.
I love the way that the warm coloured post and the pelicans stand out against that gorgeous blue.
I think this is my favourite shot from your 52
My only complaint . . . I'd love to see a bigger version of it!

Quad meerkats are lovely too. A bit of a shame that you couldn't have got consistent lighting for all 4, but it really doesn't bother me that much.

Hope you're taking good care of yourself over there.

Thank you Phil. I will give it a crop later and will also post the result when the incoming pelican tried to land on the pole as well.

Thanks Sarah. Pelicans are very photogenic. I have posted some more in "Birds". I am limited by only having my parents computer which only has Office picture manager.

Nice one, Sue. The colours are really lovely and I love the texture on the water. Have a lovely holiday. You were lucky to get away when you did.

Jenny

Thanks Jenny. I just need the dust to clear so I can get back in a couple of weeks time.

Sue

I like the contrast between the deep blue of the ocean and the red & white of the pole. Composition is spot on. Wish I was there :)

Hi Sue

I posted on your thread yesterday - but it's not here :shrug::shrug: I must have done something stupid, so I'll try and do better this time. :D

Quad: One meercat is great - always a 'feel good factor' piccie, but four meercats are four times better. I actually like the variations in exposure, and the poses work well. As for the quadness (a new word!) - one meercat is one quad, you've got 4 in four photos - and I've lost count of the number of 'quads' that makes! So totally on theme.

Single: Pelicans also make me smile. They're so well designed for their lifestyle! I love the way these two are mirroring each other's flight action. There definitely isn't room for both of them on that single post. An unusual but excellent take on the Single theme.

I hope your trip to Oz is just what you needed and you're enjoying the break. :)

Jean

Single is excellent. Love the colours and feel of this. Hope you're enjoying the break.

Thank you. The sky was so lovely and blue that day.

Its nice to be spending some time with my parents. They have been taking me out to nice places to photograph.
Sue

Thank you. I liked the colours too but most of all I found the pelicans amusing.
Sue

Very much a "whish I was there" too...

Noce shot of the Pelicans. Good composition too and some nice colours.

Ian.

nice capture but just a little oof, i guess that's the price for taking a rushed shot, not sure the little guy in the front is intimidating but the other two do. What are they staring at?

I love your meercats too what a great idea

Looks like you were very brave Sue :)

Thanks for the comments. The men were watching a street performer outside the market.

Nice capture for your stare shot.
And I love your 'quad' shot

Really good subject & composition. B&W suits it well. As other's have mentioned it is a tad soft - actually it isn't oof, probably camera shake / subject movement due to slow shutter speed.

Phil

Certainly fits the theme - well done for capturing it!

Thank you

Well spotted. Did you snap and run ?! lol

Thank you. I just snapped them and then turned my camera as if I was taking shots of the street performer

Nice capture for your stare shot.

Thank you Darren.

I think you are right about camera shake. My hands shake anyway even when I am not taking shots of scary men.

It does look a bit blurred Sue, and it would have been nice to have seen a sharper shot, but as it stands, it looks like a shot of CCTV surveillance footage.

Big lads!

Ian.

They definitely look intimidating and a really good spot for the theme.

as it stands, it looks like a shot of CCTV surveillance footage.

That was my thought when I saw it too. I wonder how it would look with a bit of grain added to it to enhance that feeling?
I don't think that you'd get this looking pin sharp in PP, so I'd be tempted to work with the feeling you've got and make it a feature of the shot.

Are you still over in Australia?
I hope the break's doing you good.

Yes I see what you mean.

I really like your single shot, made me smile. x

Thanks Nattalie. I love the pelicans out here. They are so comical

Thanks Sarah. Yes I am still out in Aussie. I have another week left and then fly home ( hopefully if the dust clouds stay away).

I am very limited with the pp I can do- just what you can do on Office Picture Manager, as thats all I have been able to download onto my parents computer. So I converted to black and white ( as one guy had yellow trousers). It looked a bit bland so I upped the contrast quite a bit but that is about all I can do on this computer- I cant do grain. I may have a go at editing it when I get home. Thanks for the ideas and comments
Sue
