And as they were such a willing pair I'm sure they wouldn't have minded waiting the couple of seconds it would have taken to adjust the aperture, by which time the other person would have moved.
If I'm going out looking for candids I tend to set the aperture at around 4-5.5 so I don't have to fiddle around if I spot a likely target. After all, if you want to change to a street shot at least you have time to close down the aperture as it's not a moving target you are after.
