L-Mount Alliance Owners Thread

I’d love to how you get on also. In fact a chat about stitching shots together would also be fantastic should you ever have the time and inclination.
I’d be happy to do that. It’s very simple in Lightroom.

I’m off to Scotland for the weekend so hopefully will have some in the bag from that.

I'd love to see some sample pics when you are ready.
Here's one of Loch Lomond. Shot at 28mm and f8. It's very sharp across the frame. Really pleased with its performance!

@Adamcski and I had a little meet up yesterday. We went to Broadway Tower. The light was pretty poor most of the afternoon but we persevered and were rewarded with a lovely 15 mins of pre sunset light. Here’s one I took. It’s a stitch of 8 shots taken in portrait format.

That’s a great image. If I’d known I’d have asked for an invite to come along. I’m based in Redditch and always keen to catch up on other local landscape/woodland photographers.

In fairness I’m interloping as I have a Nikon Z amongst other cameras, sure you guys wouldn’t hold that against me would you? :ROFLMAO:

I'm only in Solihull so not far away. Happy to meet up with folk and get out for a few sessions

Well Paul and I have been out a couple of times together and whilst I can't speak for him I am always willing to meet up. I tried to start a West Midlands group get together on the forums and not many replied, so no problem with me.

Once I've spoken to Paul perhaps I can get a WhatsApp group up and running for us (Paul and I just swapped numbers) but a group may be better with more of us.

Thoughts?

If you fancy it, drop me a pm with a suitable mobile number and we can take it from there.

Well I would be up for it if I can make it. My full time work days ended fairly recently but I seem to be taking on more and more part time stuff.

Sounds good to me. I’ll drop you a DM.

20230304 - Cambridge - 175.jpg

Had an opportunity to go to Cambridge this morning - the first time out with the new S5. Walking past this thought that I'd try a swift hand held long exposure and for a 1/2sec / f22 exposure cannot believe how well it stood up. Looking forward to learning how to use this camera.

Wasn't expecting to get caught up in a marathon, but very happy to almost taking part. Thankfully less sweat and breathlessness for me than others.

I'm always up for a wander if you fancy it, retired early so plenty of free time
I live right in St Ives and often stroll over to Houghton or Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB.

Also have days out in London where I am hoping to organise the next in our pre Covid regular wanders. Born, lived and worked there for over forty years so its more like home to me.

Absolutely not! Adam's organising a meet-up group, so hopefully will see you soon!

Morning all,

Does anyone have any 'recent' experience using the Sigma MC-21 adapter for the l-mount cameras (specifically on panasonic S1/R) with Canon EF lenses? I've seen some reviews on Youtube, however these are several years old now, and many say that AF-C doesn't work with adapted lenses, but not sure if this is still case.

I primarily shoot sport, but have a passion for portrait .... it's getting a little tiresome lugging the D5 or 1DXii's around the world for my travel/portrait shoots and I am considering going for the Panasonic S1R as I love the way it handles. I have several EF lenses that I am considering adapting to the camera - and the R5 is too expensive for a camera that I'll only be using for portraits etc.

Does anyone have any experience of adapted lenses for portraits? Or I am barking up the wrong tree and should consider the Canon R8 as it's comparably priced?

Thanks
chris

I don't have any first hand experience myself but do remember WEX warning me off using the adapter with my old canon lenses as they stated it wouldn't focus well. I am sure there is a compatibility list / chart on the web somewhere (I may have posted it to the group / forum at some stage).

Here's a couple from my recent trip up north a couple of weeks ago, I've really no motivation at the moment to get into processing them....

Creise with some stunning light and cloud rolling through, I just had to stop en route for this...

The summit of Stac Pollaidh looking over to Cul Mor, we couldn't have got a better afternoon for it after the wet and wild week we had.... A vertorama of 4 images stitched together at 20mm...

Possibly interested, but to avoid a reprimand from the staff you might want to move this to the trading forums...

I'm also looking at getting a Canon EF to L-mount adapter and so far have found this Sigma, along with similar adapters made by Commlite and Viltrox. The new price for the Sigma seems somewhat inflated given that they also make a Sigma-SA mount adapter for less than half the price of the EF adapter, and that must be electronically very similar. Are Commlite and Viltrox similar quality and reliable?

Yep, he needs to start a thread in the sales area.

Boy, the 20-60 is such a great lens. I usually gravitate toward a 35 or 50 prime but having a small, light 20mm lens is actually amazing. I hope this trend of wider kit lenses continues!

Yeah, the 20-60 is way better than it deserves to be. Paired with the S5, it’s what convinced me to jump into the Panasonic S system.

Is there any such thing as an autofocus adapter for the minolta A mount to L mount?

Weird request, I know, but I adore some of my old a-mount lenses on super old Sony CCD bodies for cheap cheerful fun, and I wonder how they would perform on a bigger sensor with modern tech. I could try a manual focus adapter but wondering if something exists that can do "the thing"... Probably not!

I have noticed a fair amount of chromatic aberration with the 20-60 - has anyone else? Tends to be twiggy trees causing a significant purple cast.

Very normal, especially wide open, on most lenses. I've yet to use one that doesn't, but I find the 20-60 one of the better examples for avoiding it, and I seem to get hardly any fringing at all. I can go out and test it a bit if you like, later in the week, and see if I can get really bad stuff.

The worst, by far, was the olympus 45mm 1.8. Stopping down does not help that lens. Not really what it's made for, mind, but a bit annoying for high key stuff!
