L-Mount Alliance Owners Thread

If it wasn't so big and heavy, I'd buy one.

I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the S1 range (assuming they do something).

I love my S1 and the 24-105 lives on it. It feels so well made.

I've taken a liking to the monochrome and L monochrome recently and plan to take some more with those settings. I'm meeting some friends in Lichfield that were on my course on Saturday for a photography walk around, so may get some more over the weekend. I'm thinking I may like these settings for street style photography. Helps that my wife loves black and white photos also.

Looking good Adam :)

A couple from my first trip out this year on Jan. 2nd, all with the S5 and 20-60...

Just breathtaking! Superb.

I'm planning a trip up to Scotland at the end of next month - probably around the Trossachs and the west. I fancy doing Glencoe, Kilchurn Castle, Loop of Fintry, and Devil's Pulpit. Perhaps too much for a short visit, but we'll see!

Can I ask where these were taken?

Thank you Paul

Always worth squeezing as much in as possible, although I'll always wait for the conditions, which could be hours in one spot, which makes the squeezing a bit too much lol

Looks to be good results! FWIW the 70-300 is absolutely fantastic.
I've just ordered one. I've read so many reviews and they're all over the place. Some praise its performance, others say it's pants! So, I decided I need to check it for myself. I hope it pans out - the only other option really is the 70-200 f4, but that's quite a bit more expensive and from what I can see it's not a stellar performer either.

There is a field behind my house; it's got a nice gentle sweep to it and a strategically-placed tree that lends itself to a nicely balanced composition. I find myself shooting it often. Here's a few recent ones with the S5. Most are with the 20-60, but a few are with the TTArtisan fisheye:

Had a bit of a play with the S5 tonight. I’ve never really done much Astro but given my lack of experience I’m reasonably happy. I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy this camera :)

Looks pretty good to me! Care to share some technical info - lens, ISO, exposure time etc?

Thanks. ISO 800, 15 sec exposure, wide open at 20mm with the 20-60. It’s a stack, albeit only of seven shots, merged in Starry Landscape Stacker and finished off in Capture One :)

Been out today and had some fun with the GX9 and the Olympus 9mm fisheye. I quite fancy one for the full frame now but looking on WEX they only have the Laowa 4mm f2.8 Circular Fisheye Lens for L Mount. it's cheap enough to have a play with but are there any more to consider? If not, may have a look at options for the M4/3 kit as there is more choice.

Both 7artisans and Ttartisan make a fisheye for L mount. I wouldn't mind one myself.

I have the TTArtisan 11mm fisheye for l mount. It’s a great lens. I’ve posted a few shots here with it. It’s not as good as the Olympus 8mm f1.8 fisheye but it’s quite a bit cheaper.

I happen to have an Olympus 8mm for sale if anyone is interested. Mint condition.

I can't fault my copy, that's for sure :)

They're really nice Paul :)

Where did you order yours from Paul?

Any import fees or issues at all?
Adam and I exchanged messages privately on this, but for any others interested, this is my experience....

I bought from an eBay seller in Japan. The seller is well respected and has very positive feedback. My own buying experience was also very positive. Very quick responses to messages and very quick shipping - 3 days from Japan to UK. Import duties need to be paid, but it's all handled by DHL. The item arrives in the UK and then DHL will mail you saying that it's held pending payment of fees. There's a link to a payment page and you can pay with credit card quickly and easily. Once payment is made, it's released and will arrive the next day.

This is the eBay listing for the item:

It's "Best Offer", but this is a new lens and the price is pretty close to what other sellers are offering it for. I offered $200 and there was a bit of haggling and we ended up at $205. This was £175 at the exchange rate at the time. To this I paid just over £40 in import duties so £215 in total. I think this is reasonable and in line with the Amazon price which is tax included.

As to the lens - it's really good. Excellent sharpness at f8 from corner to corner. Wide open the corners are a bit soft, but it's still usable. Colours and contrast are superb. Build is all metal and it feels very well put together. Infinity focus is spot on which makes it trivial to use for landscapes - just turn the dial until it hits the end stop! My only complaint is that the aperture ring is unclicked so you need to look at it to see the f-stop you want. If it were clicked you could do it by counting and keep the camera to the eye.

Here are a few shots with it - none are de-fished. You click though to 4000px versions on Flickr. If anyone wants the original raw I'd be happy to share it.
