Anyone using this,i have just started using this sofware & it is brilliant.:D

I have just installed it on my pc,i have just sent off for a box for the tv.:D

Have been using kodi for a couple of years on a few devices, it's okay but wouldnt replace a real tv subscription due to the hassle factor although some of the paid content servers are very good.

I didn't like xbmc in its days and don't like kodi now. I can only think of one reason why it has become popular as there were and are much better home theatre solutions available. I built my first with a nice Silverstone case well over a decade ago.

XBMC back in the old days was excellent. Kodi seems very clunky though (at least the PC version).

Hunch? people rarely rave about being able to watch normal channels on these boxes.

I'll happily stand corrected though.
I guess XBMC was like marmite, I really couldn't stand it. Found it too much of a tinkerers very and not very wife/children friendly. I found Windows MCE much better and that is saying something :)

PS. I'll stand by you to be corrected. I've never known non-HTPC/HC enthusiasts to like these kind of thing, until it turned out it was actually really easy to watch programmes from dubious origins. I was streaming around the house for years but they weren't interested, until they could buy a little box from Amazon where they can watch movies that are still in the cinema. Didn't even care about the crap quality of the source material and sound as they've 'seen' it. But sure as I said some have been using it for a very long time for different reasons.

Yeah it took a lot of faffing to get it spot on with themes and IMDB/artwork scrapers etc but then it just sat there and plodded along.

MCE was actually not bad for what it was, tack on a few codecs and it did what it needed to with no frills.

Yes, MCE served me well for a few years. I had a nice Silverstone case which did not look out of place in the HiFi rack. Two DVB cards in it as well. DVD player. And hooked up to our Projector and Plasma via my AMP. Cables were chunky, none of this HDMI but all separated  Worked well and was wife/children friendly.

Until the AppleTV was launched for my streaming needs, and used the Topfield for superb TV watching.

I have a pc under the TVs built for kodi although it's recently been upgraded to allow some 1080p gaming. I find kodi good for content but overly complex to set up and use.

When I read that BBC iPlayer wouldn't work any more on my Humax HD box, I began to look around for alternatives.
I decided that the cheapest option to replace the functionality of the Humax for BBC streaming purposes was a smart TV box.
I bought a Leelbox Q1 and with KODI installed it will stream BBC iPlayer as well as MY5, PlayTV, Ch4. All these channels (and any others
available to the General Public in a browser) are perfectly legal for viewers in the UK.
Problem solved. This is despite the BBC making Tens of thousands of TV boxes obsolete at a stroke (well from 1st September 2016 anyway).

Well the goobang doo box i got from amazon just kept on freezing up,so i have sent it back.:(

I have three Kodi players, all running on Raspberry Pi 2's.

They all talk to a NAS where media is stored and I can play it from one of the three TV's in the house.

Also use it to watch free to air channels in the bedroom as I am too lazy to fit an Arial for freeview.

I am going to invest in a smart tv now.:D

Bought a sony smart 4k tv,kodi works brilliant.:):D

Got Kodi installed on Amazon Fire Stick and use it to stream off my NAS drive.

You do realise all the BB companies are collating ip address that use Kodi, you may get a letter through your door as a warning, after that court action.

I use Kodi for streaming free to air TV, are they going to send me a letter?

Kodi is simply a media player, how on earth would a BB company know you are using it?

If you use it to torrent illegal stuff then they might send you a letter but this would be the same concept as doing it on a laptop.

Like I said, Kodi is a media player.
It doesn't even need internet access if you just want to play media from a hard drive.

I think you are being a little paranoid.

AWWWW better tell my boss, I'm getting paid for doing nothing all day, other than being paranoid,

Come on ,,,,, ;-)

I have no idea what that means but Kodi is not a company, it's purely a media player.

You haven't answered my question on how an ISP would know you are using it?

I could buy a Raspberry Pi and plug in a hard drive full of content and use Kodi without even connecting it to the internet.

If you chose to stream or download content illegally then your ISP could log that activity I agree but they would have no idea its coming from Kodi. Your Internal IP ranges are NATted anyway so the ISP would just see a connection from your Public iP towards a web host somewhere, it could have been initiated from Kodi system or a laptop, the ISP would have no idea as it matters none to them.

If you can point me to a verifiable source which shows me my ISP is logging my Kodi usage I will concede and then eat my hat.

:agree::banana::police::D:p:clap::plus1::naughty:

It is possible to capture/monitor torrent traffic within a network, but ISP's tacking the use of a media player is a little far fetched and would suggest the poster was making quite a few assumptions. I use Kodi on a silent PC behind the TV to stream DVD ISO images from a nas box. Before anyone makes a leap into fantasy/paranoid land, we ditched the DVD player ages ago so create images of our own dvd's.

Some of the cheap boxes you can get on Amazon etc are barely capable of running it especially if they come with a version stuffed with assorted crap (most of which won't work)
They can typically be much improved by un-installing pretty much everything and downloading a clean install either from Play or Kodi website.
Then you can add a few things you actually use like iplayer, youtube, exodus.
It is very good at finding video, pictures and music on computer on your network and a really nice player which can smoothly output 4K to 4K TV
It's a lot easier to suss out how to do things if you grab the PC version to play about with first.
- it took me a while to realise this and my kodi box bought in the spring had gradually become unusable as installed add-ons weren't updated.

Best thing I have found is the Raspberry Pi 2 or 3. Order from the pi hut and comes ready to go once you clip it together.

Works a treat for £50z

O had this first, but was annoyed with having to use a keyboard. If I could control it from my phone that would be brilliant.

I got kodi on my Fire Stick and although not 10/10, it suits my needs.

You download a Kodi app on your phone and control it?

I use my phone to control it, works a treat.
