Does anyone have experience of Kinesis long lens cases with back-pack system?

I've been using a ThinkTank Glass Taxi for sometime and can carry my 500 and a 1D in it without problem. It's great as a small bag and quite discrete. The only problem is that it doesn't fit with the lens and body connected together, meaning you have to assemble the kit when you get to your destination.

This is normally fine but a trip to Donna Nook at the start of the month nearly led to disaster. I didn't want to open the front of the 1D out on the beach and so assembled the body and lens in the car park. I carried them out fine just handheld but was so tired on the way back, I managed to drop lens and body in the swampy sea/sand on the way back. I was so cold and tired I just felt the lens handle slip through my fingers. No real harm done, just a worrying journey home and then taking the camera and lens into the shower!

So, I've been looking for a bag that is a good size to house a 500 f/4 attatched to a 1D, either with or without teleconverters fitted. The best looking one I have seen looks like the Kenesis L511 with additional backing system.

Before I part with my cash, does anyone have any experience of this bags and are they recommended?

Thanks

Paul

Ive no experience of the bag you suggest im afraid, but have you looked at the Lowepro Super Trekker? Not really "a small bag and quite discrete", but its damn big and should fit the 500mm + body. Ive got the Pro Trekker which fits the 300mm f2.8 + body with the lens hood on with loads of room left over. Just a suggestion. :)

Thanks MK.

I'm already suffering when I go out and take 17kg of kit with me - my back complains! So the hope is to get a specific long lens case just to take lens, tripod and body. ThinkTank (who's products really suit me) do a rucksac that would fit the bill but I don't trust myself not to overload it!

Hmmm. It's bigger than I'd need and I've not had the best experience with LowePro in the past. I know most (pretty much everyone but me it seems!) people on here rave about them but having worked through about half a dozen over the last ten years, I'd really like to avoid them.

Hence the gamble with importing something from Kinesis.

I use them for my 600mm and attached 1d and converters, Personally i find them better than anything else on the market. As for the back pack i use the harness version not the full board backpack version.

Jut a word of warning and to buget for approx 22% (tax and VAT) + £10 charge by parcel farce when it arrives in the UK.

I am going to do a review of it soon but got side tracked with a load of personal issues.

Would have to echo this, i can put the 600 with the 1d MK3 installed (hood reversed) in and carry it with no major issues. I didnt have the issues with parcel farce as some kind soul had already imported the bag for me :) Cheers Mark ;)

Thanks Mark and Ian. Looks worth a punt then. I was looking at the harness system and not the full board so good to know that is ok.
