Hi
Just walked in the house Julie(wife) informs me were going to Kefalonia in a weeks time, any one know of any must sees and must do's whilst there, wer Staying in the Lorenzo Hotel Lassi, bed and breakfast,
Oooo, very nice, I'm jealous!!
Dan and I went to Kefalonia for our honeymoon. I'll dig out my diary I made of places to go and see
And that's where we stayed, twice! Very nice, very friendly, lovely pool. If you like your full english, you may be disappointed as the breakfast is continental but many of the tavernas do them. And there are lots of tavernas all within easy walking distance of the hotel.
I've been, it's lovely. You must visit the Melissani lake in the underground Drogarati caves. Stunning, but not for the faint hearted or claustophobic! It's the perfect time to see the Loggerhead turtles, caretta caretta ;-) Enjoy!
DaVeronica is one to avoid, looks good but doesn't deliver. Didn't really go to any others that we didn't enjoy but can't for the life of me remember the names of the really good ones. :bonk:. I'll try and remember over the next week.
Oh, and visit the San Gerassimos winery.
And thanks Julie.
Edit: The sunsets are pretty good viewed from the pool.
Take a trip to Fiskado quaint fishing village right at the top of the Island, Argostoli is the capital and the only city on the Island, they have a good market there. You can get a bus in from the resorts to Argostoli but you may need to book a trip to go to Fiskardo.
Brush up on your Greek, can make a huge difference:
KalasMera = Good Morning
Kalas Spera = Good Afternoon/Good Evening
Kalas Nicta = Good Night
eferisto = thank you
te kanis = how are you
yamas = cheers
Not sure of the spellings but they sound correct.
The turtles are fab. You can island hop to Zante which is nice too.
I have a Tommy tortoise too![]()
as you could see Kefaloni from our hotel
Your tortoise is ten? Mine is 100 plus lol Tommy also loves strawberries! He also likes cucumber and tomatoes ;-) Not a great pic...

there is a small island with a bridge connecting it to Kefolonia which is also quite picturesque.
Yep, Fiskado is lovely and the only town on the island where the architecture is from before the 1953 earthquake.
Also, Sami is the main harbour town on the eastern coast. It's what they dressed up as Argostoli when they filmed Captain Corelli's Mandolin (Argostoli had changed too much since the quake). Not too much there but it is quaint and it is a very peaceful place to have lunch and watch the boats and fishermen.
We hired a car for the whole 2 weeks (both times). It really is the best way to see the island, especially for places off the beaten track, of which there are plenty and they are real hidden gems.
Another one for your list Dave. Athos. You are going for three months aren't you?![]()

He's about 9-10 inches long, he's a biggy! I got him when I was about 7 ish, and he was 70 odd then! I'll let you do the math!![]()
Wow that is stunning Marc, cant wait now, is that the Island the bridge goes to,
HE HE youve never been on Julie whistle stop tour, makes you dizzy![]()
Just Dave said:yep not as I ask a lady her age (checked your Profile) but hes just over 200 now then, urm I mean 100
Dave
Athos
cheeky!Yep, a very windy road down from the main island.
And tell her to slow down a bit, you might miss stuff!![]()
Hi Dave, I stay in Argostoli back in 1981 so cant give you any tips apart from have a great time and dont forget to take your camera.
Im your man if you ever go to Cyprus.

Snorkeling! Even on that busy beach at lassi go to either end and you'll see loads of fish. I couldn't believe how many I saw even though the beach was heaving! A couple of early mornings will get you some great empty beach shots, and I was also surprised how empty the beaches are at sunset.
Loved the place and the food, enjoy
We stayed in Skala & the beach shelved really sharply right at the waters edge to the point where I had to crawl up the shingle rather than walk.
I must have looked like a pink whale beaching!!!
